Nikon Z6II Raw vs JPEG vs Frame Rate
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лип 2024
- Most Nikon Z6II Wildlife Photographers shoot in RAW as there’s more detail in a RAW file. But what about using JPG instead of RAW, especially if you’re taking B.I.F or Action shots as the Nikon Z6II captures 1.5x more JPG’s than RAW images.
RAW is better than JPG, but is RAW worth spending all that time editing when you’re just wanting to share your wildlife images on social media. Then if that’s the case you should really think about using JPG Fine instead of RAW, but you’ll need to setup your Nikon Z6II correctly to do this properly.

Hi Charles, Thanks for putting out this video! Been shooting a Nikon D300 till just this week and picked up the Nikon Z6ii. Night and day difference. Anyway, I had thought I had been shooting in raw, and have been blown away with how the standard photos looked when downloaded. Then I noticed that I had only been shooting in standard JPEG !! So definitely threw a wrench into my raw is best practice.. and started searching for raw vs JPEG comparison. So glad I did find this video, being a hobbyist, it’s swaying me away from raw. The other factor is my mid2015 macbook pro running lightroom seems to struggling a bit processing the raw files compared to the JPEGs. Anyway, thanks again!
Thank you for watching my video and realizing that JPG is a viable option these days with modern cameras 😃
Thanks for some excellent useful information Charles, being a relatively new wildlife photographer, I always leant towards shooting raw. I shall now switch and experiment with my photographs in both NX Studio and Lightroom Classic. I do realise that I will be sifting through many photos but maybe I'll get more keepers as well, after all I'm a 66 year old hobbyist that just enjoys getting out and shooting wildlife in my backyard.
Thank you for the feedback, I'm thankful that people are seeing that shooting in JPG can give you good results if the camera is set-up correctly
As always great content. Mate your videos are no nonsense straight to the point easy to follow
Thank you so much for your feedback, very much appreciated 🙏
Awesome video, thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching! 🙏
Very good lesson on the differences between jpg and raw. You have set me thinking. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful! and thanks for commenting 🙏
always interesting videos. hi from france
Hello there! and thank you for watching my videos🙏
GOOD EXPLANATION BRAVO , MERCI !
Thank you so much 🙏
Nice video. On the backlit jpeg edited the raw edited does look better. I have a Z9 and CH I rattle off 20 fps. (I set my CL to 8 fps.) Surprisingly the number of shots is outstanding. I photographed a comedian/juggler balancing act and in about 20 minutes I had 966 photos. I have a D850 and CL is 4.5 fps and CH is 9 fps. Love the Z 9 for the fast action.
Thanks for sharing! My mate has the Z9 and it's an awesome camera, but way out of my price range.
Charles loved this vlog am definitely going to try and shoot in jpeg for faster shutter speed. Can I ask you Charles have you ever used the Nikon z7ii and if so what do you think compared to the z6ii any information much appreciated mate.
No! not used the Z7II, but it has a lower frame rate than the Z6II
@@CharlesNPhotography Ok thanks for the info Charles I’m currently using a Z5 and I’m torn between the Z6ii and Z7ii but the Z6ii is in front back to the thinking board. Cheers Charles. Fred.
Hi Charles, well I made up my mind and Ive gone for the Z6II not used it a lot at moment but the little i have used i'm over the moon with it.. Autofocus is a lot better than on the Z5 and there's not as much noise as the Z5 when using higher ISO. Just re-watching some of your old vlogs with the Z6II. Cheers Charles. Fred
Never do raw just like to go out with the camera more than happy with my jpeg from my z6 was good to see thank you.
Thanks for the comment Andrew, yes many people shoot in JPG and are very happy with the results and that's why I made this video to show people that done right, JPG photos can look great
Charles, how are you? I have a nikon z6 II and a sigma 150-600 lens. What is a good setting to take pictures of inn birds? Thank you very much!
My Nikon Z6II Wildlife Setup
I’ve been using my Nikon Z6II for Wildlife Photography for 8 months now, so in this video I explain and demonstrate how I’ve setup the Z6II and why I believe that the setting I use are a very good starting point for capturing wildlife images.

Yes, definitely
Capturing Birds in 4K - Nikon Z6II
Capturing Birds in 4K video with the Nikon Z6II is something that the Z6II does very well. The video quality and sharpness when shooting in 4K is amazing, which was the main reason I bought this camera to capture wildlife in video format.

Nikon Z6ii Video Quality 4K
Just bought a Nikon Z6ii, then here’s the setting I recommend to shoot the best cinematic videos with Nikon Z6ii. I explain the key video features of the Z6ii, such as why shooting in 4k 25fps or in 4k 50fps to achieve outstanding smooth 4k videos is worthwhile and which AF-area Modes to use to nail focus on your subject 100% of the time.

Hi Charles, have you tried shooting in 12 bit Raw? That should give you approx 14 fps
