I love diving with my X4! Navigating smaller spaces like swim throughs and shallow wrecks gives the most interesting footage. Although there is no way to light the full 360 degree sweep underwater, a wrist mounted torch adds to the drama in darker areas. 8K footage is also generally good enough to pull still images from after the fact with plenty of quality.
Hey Matthias - your timing could not be better! I am going to the Maldives tomorrow, with Insta360 x4 (and my A7Siii) packed - fingers crossed for some nice encounters! Thanks for the tips, nice and useful as always. Keep up the good work! 🙏🏼👍🏼
@@DanielFrench thank you mate, appreciate your feedback. That’s awesome. Where are you going to in the Maldives? Well, enjoy in any case and I hope you get some great shots. I’m currently in Egypt testing some new gear (exciting 🤩) and shooting some promotional content. 😁
My reasons why I don't use it: Image quality still not good enough ( especially for underwater and low light) Stitching still visible , especially underwater with sunrays Dome tends to scratch to fast and every scratch ruins your shots The camera including housing is extrem bulky ... so sucks a lot for traveling if u already have SLR, drone etc... On top you need extra arms to mount the Insta far enough away from the main housing so it can produce good images. Yeah and let's talk about the price ... you get a proper action cam for 350 Euro. The insta with underwater housing is more than double ( + mounts) Ah and lets not forget about insta sponsoring a lot of UA-camrs without saying and influencers hiding the negative sides of the camera... I really like to use it but these are all to major downsides :( Il hope in some years the Insta will be a proper solution for and affordable price! I can't wait for that day ! Still Thanks for your video! The more underwater footage we get from this camera on UA-cam the better!
@@InfiniteBlue_ thanks for your comment and for sharing your thoughts buddy. I get what you’re saying, I really do. 360 degree technology, especially for underwater, is still in its early stages. Would I like cheaper and higher quality options for the consumer market? Hell yeah… but keep in mind that a few years ago this technology wasn’t even available for the consumer market. And it will only get better and cheaper in the future. I find it crazy how quickly technology has evolved in recent years. It’s an exciting time to be alive and I can’t wait to see where this camera development journey leads. 🤗
Still thinking should i go back to 360. 5 years ago we did maybe the first mine diving video in 360 but Editing was nightmare. You can find the Ojamo 360 video in youtube under Northam VR who kindly did the final edit for it 😅 Also lighting desing with dozen divers in the mine was challenge, all was shot in one 21min take
@@FinnishCaveDiver wow, thanks for sharing that with the community buddy. Yeah, 360 video comes with a lot of new challenges. But it is fun to play around with it for sure. 😁
Honestly, i am not that convinced. When you zoom in, just a bit, the resolution gets pretty poor. Everything that is not right in the center is quite blurry. In the beginning I thought the camera doesn't work properly, as the footage of the one x2, i had bevor, was way better. The support said: "In order to provide better underwater stealth and underwater stitching effects, the diving case of X4 has been adjusted compared to X2, and the clarity may be slightly weaker than X2." So in reviews it should be mentioned, that there is a big difference in image quality compared to a normal action cam as the ace pro 2 for example. On the other hand, the possibilities you have with the 360 features itself are awesome!
if you close the underwater case near to the aircon or in air conditioned room and never open until you're back - it will never fog. Also use antifog strips (desiccants)

@@Rifshanshaheem thanks buddy. Keep sharing those magical Maldivian moments you capture with your X3 for us 👍🏻
Do you need to buy a red color dive filter when scuba diving? If yes, does the camera w/ the filter fit inside the dive case? Thanks.
@lingx no you don't. The auto WB of the X4 works quite well, even underwater (it knows you're underwater when you activate the dive case mode).
