Good video, thanks! I might add to your comment re "crispness and high resolution" -> "...as long as you have tons of light" ! I'm on the fence about returning my latest X4: on the one hand it's seriously amazing tech for a few hundred dollars, it produces great videos under controlled circumstances, but its small sensor is a limitation. No other cam comes close if you're after the "novelty" footage that the spherical design allows. On the other hand I find the single-lens mode disappointing, just quite poor resolution and awful in low light (to be fair even Insta says you need lots of light), my Gopros (9 & 11) absolutely crush it even in 1080p. I guess my quandary is do I wait another year + for a likely sensor (and price) upgrade, or content myself with the "decent" footage from this? I remain undecided! As for the offline editing, I'm in professional broadcasting so I quite enjoy working the desktop software, it's deceptively simple yet powerful, which is a pretty good indicator of good design; IMO the phone app is essentially useless, it works but who wants to edit with blunt fingertips and wifi connections?
Definitely better with dercent light - I think it's hard packing any more tech, including a bigger sensor in this package - it's already pretty chunky and just about an acceptable size for this form. I think the single lens mode is definitely a 'nice to have if i ever need it' feature. Which is never. I'd always choose a dedicated action cam for single lens shots. Studio is good for editing on my Mac - but i'd like to see multi-clip immersive footage timeline and exporting - for reframing, it's great - but I tend to use my iPad for that - I love the workflow out to Lumafusion
Have you done an editing video, if not please do one. Also which lens guards do you use? I only have the standard but am thinking of getting the premium.
No. The sensor is not big enough to completely eliminate noise. It’s still pretty good though. If low - light shootings your thing, try the ace pro 2 or Osmo action 5 Pro
What about a changeable nvme and usb4? Not to forget a crash detection mode for cyclists and motorbikes. And please support the app in quest 3. The app already works in the quest!
V strange - I guess it's not a total vacuum then ... Didn't sneak in there when they were first applied (I'm guessing you already thought of that though)
I just wish that they didn't removed the sample "videos" that could be created with pictures inside the app... the remaining points are greatly discussed!
Hi mate, I too live in Wellington ( Great City) . Had brought the insta360x4 for my trip to Europe. Got lots of footage, But man o man the files are big and clogging up my phone. Is there away you can transfer the shot footage to a portable ssd to edit later?, or is the new cloud offered by Insta worth a go ? I gave up trying to edit the footage until I got home……Still a creator guy I meet said it’s best to edit it as soon as ,while the footage is still fresh and exciting…………. Very new to this , and on a steep learning curve, Watching yourself and a lot of UA-cam to try to get better Keep up the great work
Hey there - yes, can't beat Wellington on a good day. And when the wind isn't messing the audio on your recording! Yes, you can offload - and edit on Desktop instead - but you'll lose some of the features in editing from the app. I haven't rtried this for a while - but if you can preserve the file structure on your ssd you may still be able to edit on app. I would duplicate filestructure first and try before deleting your structure from the sd card, if that's what you want to do. But i agree with the creatir guy you met - edit while its still fresh is a good strategy - or else you'll lose the shot and vibe you were experiencing at the time. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned - great to have you here. ps am thinking of holding a video creator meet up (all levels from absolute beginners) in the next couple of weeks. Interested?
@@PocketCams thanks for your feed back, I am like a sponge right now trying to absorb the skill and information on how to use the x4 every keen on the creator meet up cheers
Thanks for the useful video. I noticed that your first pan has a pulsing or skipping movement to it that I didn't see in the other videos. That would honestly be a no-go for me and very disappointing to find in vacation footage. I also wish it recorded in 10bit because to me the image quality is noticeably better when placed side by side with a modern GoPro. I find the 360 capability would really benefit some of my vacations or other events and I've been considering for years whether to buy one. I think I could live with the final resolution of 2.7k and it's very tempting to snap one up at the current Black Week prices but really wish the expected GoPro Max 2 was already on the market for comparison.
I really wouldn’t hold your breath for the GoProxMax 2 any time soon. At least, I’m not. Would love to test it out if and when it eventually does arrive. Also rumors of a DJI 360 camera. We will have to wait and see
@@PocketCams The Max 2 is announced to arrive by the end of March, I guess we'll see. I hadn't heard about the DJI 260 but 260 degrees would be enough probably for what I need especially if they can get the resolution higher, maybe up to 4K.
@@PocketCams Well then... our options are increasing and things are going to get complicated. I'm still attracted to the X4 and may just take advantage of the sale. Being realistic, probably nobody else who would see my videos would notice the difference between 8 and 10bit, especially if I crank the saturation up enough.
I just got my X4, debating about getting the quick reader, my question is: other than using WiFi, why can’t I just take the SD card out and use a SD card reader to plug into my computer? Quick reader feels so intrusive on the side of the camera~
You can. I just record with SD card in camera and use quick reader to plug into Mac, iPad or iPhone. Just tried in generic card reader and that works on my iPad fine

Well done sir. Yes I agree with all of your pro's and con's for the X4 as I also have one. A big thumbs👍 up.
Literally just received this camera yesterday….which I got to film my upcoming trip to New Zealand, ending in Queenstown!
Awesome, have a great trip, and be sure to film plenty of epic Queenstown moments!

Thanks for the review! Today, i was able to connect thru bluetooth, the dji mini mics! This is a great feature.
I’m giving that a try soon ! Thanks 🙏

quick reader is 100% not a necessary purchase if you are editing on PC, just plug the cable in and transfer the files

Good suggestions!
my biggest issue is I don't know how dust gets inside the protection lens. It's imposible for me to understand how it gets there.

Agree on the weight compared to X3 but the pros outweigh the cons.

just use the USB-C cable and transfer your files directly, no quick reader needed.
