@@jebcar9618 It's a mix. I don't even think he uses head voice, u can hear his chest voice really faintly on the record. I would say it sounds like head voice because of the heavy vocoding. He does a similar effect throughout all of Comedown Machine.
Ode and 15 Minutes are 2 of my favorite Strokes songs aside from Is This It (whole album is perfect). I also think Chances would be a great song for Chris to look at, Julien’s voice is so incredible in that song
You should check out the adults are talking next. He goes crazy high in that song and I'd be interested to see what you have to say about a super high falsetto
Julian is one of my favorite male vocalists. He’s changed some aspects of his style over time. I can understand because I feel like he had to adjust to protect his voice. I love finally seeing someone break it down. You have an incredible voice, as well.
Omg I’m so freaking happy you did this, I literally asked for it in the last one hehe. It’s so cool to hear you dissect it like this. I hope you like the album because his voice is super polished now after all these years and it’s just a treat to listen to
Unpopular opinion but my favourite song on the new album is not the same anymore and I would love it if you could analyse him. The vocals are amazing and it’s one of the best Julian songwriting .

@@chrisliepe im stoked to have found your channel. Gonna work through your library! I just started producing about 3 months ago and after just the hour of content or so I watched i was able to be so much more flexible when I was recording. Thanks again :)
love to see you analyse more stuff from my favourite singer Julian. Your analyses always feels more informative and more specific than other guys in the internet. I feel like I'm really learning something and you inspire me to work on my voice. Thanks Chris!
NICEEEEE, I hope this video does well so you can do more The Strokes or even possibly *THE VOIDZ* it's great seeing the Reptilia and Selfless video because it helps in understanding how to apply those sounds. Like I always sang reptilia but i couldn't tell what he did for that grit and growl
Great Analysis!!! I agree with you Chris about Julian's voice now. The discoveries he has made has really enhanced his sound, his dynamics, in which brings out some beautiful flowing melodies in a little more of a subtle approach than before.
I’ve been a drummer for 14 years and have always said I can “kind of sing” meaning i’ve gotten slightly better over all those years, but haven’t really put much work into my voice. After seeing the last Strokes video pop up in my recommended and then this one, i’m subscribed and am feeling more motivated to actually practice voice now. Awesome analysis!!
So Future, Present, Past E.P. From the Strokes is still one of my favorites. It starts with a foreshadowing of how they will sound 7 years later. This and all their albums are incredible.
Thank you for covering this one! I recently discovered The Strokes and instantly fell in love with the band, Damnn nice it is! It's really different hearing their new vs older songs just as everyone mentioned
Amazing video, Chris. Julian is definitely one of my favourite vocalists and an inspiration for sure. Paul Banks is also one of those vocalists with very interesting voices.
You should definitely hear him sing "Pyramid of Bones" with The Voidz. He goes superhigh in the chorus but also does growly screams. Thanks for the great video!
Hey Chris, just wanted to let you know that watching your videos gives me so much joy. The way you’re so enthusiastic about things that a lot of people never even realize, myself included, is just amazing. You seem like a real genuine guy and I hope your channel blows up because you deserve it. Keep on doing you man, and I’ll be tuning in for every future video:)
I love the strokes so much, this video is so good, you describe and show how he does it really well. May I recommend welcome to japan by the strokes, that would be so interesting
Bro just do the entire album lol Julian really grew as a singer. Each album highlights his new vocal skill. Like for example Comedown Machine shows more highlights of falsetto than his other older albums
Honestly a lot of the songs on the new abnormal definitely deserve analysis as well because this is scratching the surface of all his amazing performances
Hey, huge fan and really appreciate the content! My personal favourite when it comes to Julian's vocals is 'Trying Your Luck' from the first album I think he uses distortion to convey his emotions (like desperation and hopefulness) so well in that one, might be one for a future vid?
Thank you for doing this! I feel like a lot of people don’t really like Julian’s voice cause it’s not your traditional rock sound (like a chris cornell for example) or your traditional pop sound (like well, any pop artist) And he also doesn’t fit in with the new age lofi whispery vocals a lot of artists do nowdays He might’ve started out by copying lou reed and picked up things from jim morrison as well but i truly feel like julian is now just his own thing and he sings better than his influences.
I saw him perform at the forum in october and he really showed off his talent. Phenomenal singer. Theres a song of his I forgot the name and he performed it but like more singing, higher notes and it was mind blowing 🤯 Edit: One Way Trigger
@@amaury12v89 Actually ik the song now lol. I asked my gf since and she said it was One Way Trigger... Theres high notes in that song already but at the forum he took it to another level!
Thank you for this (and Reptilia)! I am also loving Julian's sound as he gets older! Also, I would love to hear your thoughts on another favorite front man of mine - Matt Bellamy and specifically how his voice has evolved over time! Thank you!

The Strokes / Voidz have become one of my favorite bands but I noticed the majority of your uploads hold ALOT of the music I listen(ed) too Tldr; thanks for being you, would love to hear more Julian but I’m looking forward to your entire upload catalogue Cheers
Continue with julian, anything julian: julian with the voidz “were no eagles fly” , “old hollywood” then move on to features like “instant crush” and “boombox” really see how far julian has gone vocally.
I would love if you check out Ian Curtis of joy division, he´s not a very technical vocalist but i think it would be pretty interesting to see your point of view in his approach to singing, very raw, specially live
Really great! Thank you for such a overview of modern Julian's vox! It's really amazing! Another cool vocalist who can be interesting for you is Daniel Johns from Silverchair. His style changes are even more odd than Julian's onee
To be honest, Julian's voice is the hardest one I want to copy....his voice tune & vocal sometimes high and low in anytime...I always listen to his album and he is so good on vocal or what can I say is he can be a good vocalist teacher
Thanks Chris, I appreciate you! Maybe in the future you can do a video on how various singers change singing technique with age and comment on vocal style/ health (drinking/smoking)/ability/testosterone (eating/sleeping/working out) ect. Maybe Julian C, Caleb Followill, John Fogerty, (Steven Tyler seems to still be able to do what he did?) just some ideas.
This is definitely one of Julians best vocal performances. I love the Strokes most recent album and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
I would say instant crush is his best, bruh he's in head voice almost the entire song it's exhausting that I can't sing along it with him

@Michel Puy I'm about to check you out
I'd love to hear an analysis on Ode To the Mets because that song really shows many sides of Julian's new style

We can't talk about Jualian's falsetto without mentioning his performance on "One Way Trigger" and "Chances", cause those are really something else.
Adults are talking is a masterpiece
Julian is one of those rare singers (along with Bob Seger and Jim Morrison) whose voice changed but got better with age. Dudes a legit great vocalist.
