      So with the speed square you mark both woods at 16 degrees and can cut it with a hand saw or is the 16 degree for mitre saw? Im just doing diy at home and have a similar angle..just learning at beginner level. Thanks

    Also, if you go the other direction with the speed square, which would give you 58*, you can just add to 90* instead of subtract from 180* which is usually easier to do in the head

    this measures the angle but is NOT the cut angle. carpentry math is applied math. to cut that angle would need a different approach. its good to know how to measure the full angle with the speed square, but if cutting base or shoe moulding, it would be around 16° or so if the inside angle is 32

    What if you have bumps and dips in walls. I’m still a bit old school so prefer to mark two parallel lines along each wall and draw a line through intersection. I have two sliding bevels to mark left and right cuts. I always cut a little bigger to allow for any deviation in wall and floor and trim accordingly with electric mitre saw.

    So would the miter cut be 16 degrees ? 180 flat plane - 148 = 32 divide 2 = 16

    • @templebuilderscarpentry7043
      @templebuilderscarpentry7043  Рік тому

      That looks right. Because if I needed the miter for a 120 degree angle 120 ÷2=60 in order to produce that 60 degree angle I would set my saw to 30 degrees , using the same method you used 180 flat plane - 120 = 60 ÷2 = 30. Thanks for commenting Teo I appreciate it.

    • @kevinmoncada5120
      @kevinmoncada5120 7 місяців тому

      16 is wrong its actually 23 exactly because
      180 - 32 = 148 Full angle
      148/2 = 74 Bisecting your angle for the miter
      The most important is knowing that 90 is equal to 0 on the miter saw so you go
      90-74 to get 23 degrees for your miter saw.

    • @templebuilderscarpentry7043
      @templebuilderscarpentry7043  Рік тому

      16 degrees on the miter saw. It's a 148-degree angle ,so 148÷2=74 degrees . Then, you need to find the complementary angle, which is 90 -74 =16 degrees. 16 degrees on your miter saw will produce a 74-degree angle on your building material. It can look confusing, but it's not. Thanks for commenting
