Hey man I know topics like this seem rudimentary to some but for guys like me who forget things or "been awhile" since I've done angles with a miter this video was the perfect refresher! Thank you for making this. This was explained super easy not only to comprehend but using many tools of today made your demonstration very easy to remember!!! Oddly enough I just needed a refresh finding a odd angle on some aluminum pipe I'm cutting pie cuts from and just needed to see someone use basically and specifically all these tools you used and just made me life soooo much easier!! Thank you

Thank God! You are a blessing from above. I wish I had you as my teacher 50 years ago when I was in class. I could have become a star pupil instead of a struggling dunce. I had to teach myself geometry in my mid-30s because I enjoy DIY projects and I wanted to be better at them. You simplified what can be considered as difficult.

I want my bird box to hang straight and not lean back and could not figure out how I was going to figure out the angle to then know how thick of a shim I will need. I am going to pick up the first one you showed tomorrow. Problem solved. Thank you so much for a very useful video.

Good video about how to read angles using angle finders and showing the different types.
Two suggestions: #1) show just a little simple geometry with a right triangle and show the 3 angles created when scribing a line - where you scribed a 60-degree angle, also show the viewers the 90 degree angle, and the 30-degree angle, which leads into #2) show viewers how to translate the 60-degree angle you scribed on the 2x4 to the proper angle set-up on a mitre saw, which would be 30-degrees (i.e. 90-60 = 30).
One criticism: saying 92.2 is close to 90 is not accurate. Actually, 89.6 or 90.3 is close to 90. In the beginning of your video you mention that being off by a few degrees can be bad, so your video should reflect that when you say you're "close" to something. As a positive, the "90" degree angle you measured, at first glance, looks square, but you're measurement showed otherwise. Looks can be deceiving, so "always measure twice and cut once..."

This is an incredibly detailed and helpful video. Thanks for putting this together. A question- can you scribe an angle onto a long, flat panel of wood using the analog angle finder? Or would that be a better job for the machinist's protractor? Asking because I need to cut an angled notch out of some wainscoting due to an irregular wall corner shape. And it seems like the analog angle finder is good at identifying the angle, but not as good as scribing an angle line that I can cut along.

      1. Place cylinder (circle) on top of plexiglass or transparent plastic sheet.
      2. Trace circle on plastic sheet.
      3. Use geometrical technique to find center (google) or just estimate where the center is. Then mark center on sheet.
      4. Use straight edge to draw line from center to edge of traced circle.
      5. Use center point on sheet as vertex when using angle device. Open device to 45 deg. Draw second line on sheet at this angle.
      6. Place transparent sheet on top of cylinder and mark both locations onto cylinder.
