- A solo two day climbing/camping journey in the Julian Alps.
What an unforgettable experience filled with lots of ups and downs. But most importantly I had a ton of fun and I can't wait for the next one!
The summer climbing season is slowly coming to an end, and that means in the next video you will probably see me back on snow ;)
Route info:
Bovški Gamsovec - Requiem (180m, VII-)
Quite a long approach, but it's definitely worth it.
The route itself is beautiful, but it did feel a bit hard for the grade.

Free Soloing = Climbing with No Ropes
Free Climbing = Climbing with ropes up a mountain only using the mountains features to summit. (no pulling on bolts etc)
Solo Climbing = Climbing with ropes by yourself.
Daisy Soloing = Free soloing while placing protection as needed on harder parts then removing protection and going back to free soloing.
Excellent! Couldn’t have summarized it better.
ooh man slovinian alpes are bautifule i wish i can climb here one day
i love the video simple yet interesting
Thank you!
Yeah I agree, I feel blessed to have such mountains relatively close to home.
Would love it if you did a tutorial of the full process, management, gear, etc that you use when rope soloing. Even if you did just one pitch but left everything in that would be like a tutorial
Those mountains are straight out of Lord of the Rings! I know they filmed a lot of those movies in the Alps. The place looks magical. You deserve more views my man!
Thanks Andraž for another wonderful climbing video. Great route with spectacular views. Nice mix of scrambling and rock climbing.
You sure can sleep on an uncomfortable bed.
I admire your determination and sense of adventure.
Many thanks!
This one was quite challenging!
The lack of sleep and constant wind definitely played a bit with my mind, but I’m glad I pushed through it! 😀
Greetings from Slovenia!
Absolutely stunning views. Great climb friend, stay safe 👍
Thank you brother!
Greetings from Slovenia 😀
You are my inspiration to go climbing man. Thank you❤
Thank you! It means a lot to hear that ❤️ keep on climbing :)
Brilliant film today, all the usual ingredients ( peaceful, lovely mountains ) plus some less attractive activities with the dormice ( that the plural in english Andraž). Best yet I think . Thanks.
Thank you brother!
The dormice definitely made this journey even more memorable 😅.
Thanks for the correction!
We seem to have the spider thing in common😂. And don’t complain about a mouse. If you’d use a bunk bed In the Corse mountains quite often you’d catch bedbugs as a souvenir. And If you like to book a hotel after your trip you shouldn’t mention that you were hiking the GR20- they’d kick you out before you know it. I used the cabins only in the off-season so I could use the kitchen area for sleeping
Hahaha good thing to know if I ever go there 😅.
But being surrounded by mice poop is far more dangerous than bed bugs haha. The diseases they carry are deadly.
In either case, I’m not sleeping inside if there are bed bugs, mice or spiders 🤣.
Čudovita smer, čestitke ! Najboljši SLO gorniški youtuber ! Mogoče še kakšen video v slovenščini :D ?
Hvala, cenim 😊.
Ampak žal nemorem naredit videa v Slovenščini, ker je večina mojih gledalcev tujih :)
I bet UA-cam recommends one of your videos to me because I checked some videos of Alex Honnold months ago, and well done man, I am watching your wonderful videos from a big city with more than 30 million people, and not possible to find a place (esp. mountains) like shown in your videos... keep creating these nice videos, and be safe.
Thank you very much my friend! 🙏
Veliko uspehov še naprej in predvsem pazi nase. Saj znaš. lp
Hvala!
Verjamem. Vedno rad poslušam/berem take in drugačne zgodbe starejših alpinistov :)
Tiste najbolj naporne noči/dnevi se vedno najbolj vtisnejo v spomin haha.
Srečno, lp.
Bravo care,še vedno moj poklon tebi.Izbral si moje konce in moje poti,čudovite Julijce.Vse kar počneš počneš srcem,v zibelko ti je položeno.Varno in srečno naprej v zimski sezoni💯👍💪⛰️🦅
Hvala, cenim! 🙏 prečudoviti so tile naši Julijci 😊
Thank you! 🙏
Greetings :)
Cool climb! Is that a normal of modified grigri? Any tips on how to better manage rope and wind? Did you consider going up with all the rope on the pack? Love the videos, keep them coming!
Thank you!
It’s a normal grigri, but I did drill a small hole for a cord to hold it upright.
You have to figure out which system works best for you, because there is no perfect way.
I’m still adapting and improving on my rope managament every time.
And as far as the wind goes… you just have to be tough enough to endure it hahah and a windproof jacket is essential :)
Yeah, I often carry the rope on my pack, but this route was quite hard, so I didn’t want any extra weight.
Awesome! May I please ask why you don't tie the rope to each quick draw to reduce rope drag? I see many rope soloers tying it as they go (many also don't use quick draws for this reason - They are free to zig zag the rope). Keep on having fun man :)
Thank you!
I do use stopper knots every 15-20m, but I don’t always show that in the video, because I cut out a lot of the climbing and rope handling so the video isn’t too long and boring :)
Greetings from Slovenia!
@@andrazegart Thanks so much for getting back to me :) Oh I see that is good. I am only just learning the dark art of rope soloing haha. Love your channel dude. Thanks
VII- grade, in solo is a bit tricky jajajaja well done 😂😱
It was quite challenging!
The lack of sleep, long approach, heavy backpack and cold wind didn’t help either 😅🤣
Definitely get yourself RODE wireless go 2 microphones.. you have wind protection on them.. and the quality of the sound will improve dramatically! Love your work, keep it going!!
Thank you! 🙏
That would be nice to have, but I don’t have the money :)
I do have a wind muff for my GoPro, which helps a lot… but at the time of recording this video I wasn’t using it yet :)
As usual wonderful content :) i was wondering which rope u might be using ( brand, diameter, length)?
Thank you!
It’s a Sterling rope (70m, 9mm).
nice
How did you get your QuickDraws back after climbing up? I’m new to this stuff.
When I climb up to the anchor I secure the rope and rappel back down to collect all the gear, and then climb the pitch again on top rope.
What grade can You climb indoor ?
What model of jacket it is?
Do You like it ?
My hardest sport climb so far is 7c.
I think the jacket is Garwhal GTX.
And yes I’m quite happy with it. I’ve had it for about a year and so far it has served me well.
dayum! nice video, can you introduce about your rope soloing system too?
Thank you!
I use grigri as the main device and ASAP as the backup.
I plan to do a video on that topic in the future.
@@andrazegartpls do it🥲
How do you set that anchor up? At bottom
There was already one bolt, and I hammered an additional piton for the second point.
Are there bears or wolfs ? Are you not afraid to sleep like that ?
Do you recollect your gear, and if you do how do you do it?
Yes, of course 😀.
After climbing a pitch I set up the anchor and rappel back down and collect all of the gear… then I either climb the pitch again on top rope, or jumar back up.
So you basically have to go through every pitch 3 times ( up, down, up).
@@andrazegart I have always wondered this. Thanks for the answer :)
How cold does it get at night?
That night it was around 0° celsius.
Really like your videos. Still don't understand how you can climb solo with rope, can you send me some tutorial or make some tutorial. I am just a begginer at climbs with rope and I don't have partner for climbing with rope..
Btw, kind of humor at 1:05'.
so real id also rather fight a bear than touch a spider
Hahah any day 🤣
everything about this channel screams more than 50k views daily
Thank you, that really means a lot! ❤️
