- We visited St George, Utah. It's unlike other Utah cities, as it's warm with lots of sun & palm trees everywhere.

Quiet, clean and well kept. Utah seems like a prosperous state. I like it.
Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
From India: sir addicted to your videos. sitting here am able to see main towns / cities / villages of USA and am enjoying them all. I appreciate your work in driving long (looong) distances and showing all of us the mighty country. kudos to you sir.
Me too
Wait until he goes to Iowa then you will see some beautiful land !
My sentiments as well. I watch a new video each morning to start my day. So interesting and informative. Thank you from India.
Same😽💞🌿🎶
Me 2!
Incase anyone is wondering, the big 'D' on the mesa stands for Dixie, the city's nickname (Utah's) Dixie. By the way, on the other side of the mesa spans an area larger than downtown made up of mostly residential neighborhoods. Many of you probably thought the whole town was in view from the Cliffside Restaurant where they were eating, but that was just downtown or central St George. It's unfortunate they didn't tour more of the city's incredible homes and neighborhoods
Utah is one of my favorite states. The sheer beauty of God's creation is magnified greatly. You gave a wonderful tour of such a beautiful place. It's been many years since I was there (1970's) and oh my goodness how it's changed. Another wonderful tour. What I love about your videos is that I feel like I'm on vacation with y'all. Good to see both you and Nichole. Dang that food looked fantastic 🤠👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I was in St. George recuperating from a construction job one time.
Built on the flat places, mesas, even the airport.
Good library that really serves the people.
Nice work, Y'all.
I got so excited for this one as my friend lives in St George. We were flying over from the U.K. to visit but a family death stopped the trip. It sure looks lovely. Thanks for showing us Joey.
The success of St George is less corruption and preservation of history very very beautiful
Very well said !!!
The state is about to give Sand Hollow over to building contractors.
A great video, as always. A beautiful city, very scenic, with some gorgeous old buildings. The view of the city at the beginning of the video was amazing. I love the old store at the end, so much character. Thank you so much, Joe and Nic, very enjoyable.😊💚
Thank you, CL!!!
The growth is crazy
St. George is gorgeous! I love the mountains and homes. Enjoyed the history of the temple. The general store and restaurant looked amazing! Looking forward to Nevada!
Glad you enjoyed it!! 👍😀
One of the greatest animal rescue organizations in America is headquartered near there: Best Friends Animal Society
Really? That’s awesome
Kanab
Fair assessment and overview of the city. Thanks for taking time to explore our beautiful city and state!
👍 Smashing dash-cam upload. A very clean-cut town -- and one that adds its own identity to the US's infinite regional variety.👍
Another great history lesson and very beautiful scenery to places I will never get to and I thank you so very much for all the research that you have to do to make your trip complete. I Thank you more than you will ever know for sharing your travels with all.❤
awesome. Expected nothing less. Waiting for NEXT!!
I love St George and Southern Utah. The vibrant red rocks always blow me away.
My family moved to St. George in 1984. I thought that I was going to die because it was so boring and NO shopping and it gets sooooooo HOT in the summer (between the end of June to the first of September), BUT, the rest of the year has Amazing weather! I can say that I do not like the growth! The people that are moving here are something else, in fact, I would say that I feel like we live in a "Little Las Vegas" now. ( We tried to live in Las Vegas in the early 1990's because of my husband's business, it was horrifying, and we moved back to the St. George area after a couple of years.) Needless to say, I DON'T like the increase in people and the higher prices of our homes! The city and county does, $$$$$ , I can say, Kudos to you!!! I learned more about the St. George history from your video than I ever learned in the 40 years that we have lived here! I'm also impressed that you ate outside on Labor day! Hot Tamale! Great job of your interpretation of everything here! FYI: "Painted Pony"(Downtown) is a much better restaurant. Good job and I've watched a few of your videos on different areas! Show some quaint smaller cities with lower prices! 🙂😀
Thanks for uploading, its a very nice part of the US
St. George is a beautiful city. I hit the like button before watching the video. I know the content will be great. Joe and Nic never disappointment. Love the food presentation and discussion toward the ending of many videos.
Great video. Lots of great scenery.
Always enjoy watching your vlogs.
Great video and some more great scenery.
thanks for sharing Another great video joe and Nic 👍
I have family that live in Mesquite, Nevada and Saint George is not that far. We took a little trip out there and we loved the scenery. Hello from El Paso Texas.
Thanks Joe ! An other Very interesting video of the sights "out west", love the deep blue of the sky..so nice..it looks like alot of people are going there,.. looking forward to seeing Nevada...Thankyou Good Sir, love it..Safe travels to you an Nicole.🌼
Beautiful place! That cliff with no rails was scary! Can’t wait for the next one!
This city was surrounded by beautiful scenery for sure!
Looks like a great city. That's neat, enjoying meals while enjoying the view of the city and it's incredible seeing the Mojave desert on the other side along with cliffs. The bike trail along the cliff is more for pro or experts. Looks like you had a great deal.
Thanks for another very nice video. St. George is quite the place. That part of the country is just gorgeous. My brother lives 40 miles north of there in a small community called New Harmony. He has been there for 21 years and says the growth of St. George has been insane with no end in sight. The builders are putting up housing as fast as possible and can't keep up with demand. The big looming problem of such growth is limited water supply. They want to run a pipeline from Lake Powell, but I don't know how that will work out. It does get hot in the summer - this past summer highs were over 110. We lived in northern Arizona in the 1960's and at that time the population of St. George was only around 7,000.
wow that town st george is so cool ty for video yall have a good week joy nick
That table near you at the restaurant was so distracting I can't imagine what it must have been like for you. it's nice that people are enjoying themselves but not to the extent of disturbing everyone else.
My husbands rich grandma used to live here.
Funny you say you it’s similar weather to Las Vegas. She kind of goes between St. George, Californa, and Las Vegas(where my husband is from) and moves where she wants to at the time.
She enjoyed living here though.
Think she’s in Cali now again though.
Utah is a beautiful state. I have driven through but didn't stay at all. Thank you for sharing and have a great day and safe travels
Great touch hearing you opening the candy wrappers in the car.
You do amazing videos! Thank you👍🙂❤
Thank you for the video.
Cant wait to see the haunted hotel!!
I’m hoping it’s the Clown Motel in Tonopah
Thank you!
I lived in SLC for years and I could not believe I was still in Utah my first time in St. George
Joe , the choreography of your vids are so amazing! I would luv to live there in St George...so beautiful & i like smaller style homes. Never thought I'd like the desert-like environment but it's growing on me. lol Thanks for sharing Joe & Nic...Nicole , you're pretty as a picture! 🥰
You definitely should come here. It's pretty great. If you ever need anything just ask me.
Thank you, enjoyed this video. My best friend (since we were 13…we’re now 67) lives in St. George. We’ve been there to visit. We live in San Angelo, Texas. It’s also desert and not pretty. Thanks for sharing a little bit about our church history.
Another awesome road trip ❤
Simply put another great video!!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing.
We can't get enough of your videos . Never a disappointment !!!!!♥

It looks like religion pays. Boy, I sure took the wrong path. :) Thanks for the view of St. George and many other places that I will never get to visit.
SOL 😂 haven't heard that in a while, thank you for a much needed laugh Joe!
utah is another dream stay of mine , prison break series, interesting place, thank you very much. I love America very much. Even if I can't come to America 😔😭. I enjoy it through your channel. best wishes. Show the most interesting places.❤️❤️😍😍
Thank you Joe, great video. I learned things i didn't know abs i have lived in st george since 2012 and the growth since 2005 had been very dramatic. As for being cool at night only in the winter I the summer it is over 100 degrees during the day and 80 to 90 at night. Judds is one of the first places I photographed in st george when we moved here. Wow when did they put the sculpture garden sign? There have been sculptures there as long as I remember but didn't ever see a sign. Most really have been a long time since I have been downtown cause I have never seen the veterans memorial. Yeah that cannon hasn't been out any of the times I have been through the visitors center. As far as the median home values. The cost of rent or mortgages have pretty much doubled since we moved here in 2012, with the bulk of it being since 2019/20 when a huge migraine of people moved here from California and pushed the prices of homes up after selling their homes in California. We pay more than double what we paid when we first moved here. Going from 750 a month to 1500. With $400 of that increase being the last 2 and 1/2 years.
How do they keep the palm trees alive every winter in St. George. Or is it just a matter of time when an unusually cold winter kill them all off?
I loved the vídeo.
Thanks.
I love your videos so much!!!
Thank you!
The roads are wide pretty much all over Utah. They were made wide so wagons could be turned around. When they used to be used, anyway.
A lot of Pretty Country out there! 😳 I follow a bunch of UA-camrs from there. 🤔 It seems an Amazing place for recreation and general Fun! 😀 The Vistas are Beautiful!
I have been to St. George’s few times then Salt lake city and Ogden
Things have changed
Great video .
We are finally getting to do a road trip we had planned back in March but , we had so much going on, we could not leave till , next month , heading up to Asheville NC area , then VA, and WV . So we are looking forward to that little road trip.
enjoyed it you two
Nichole's meal looked like it could feed two for sure.
Lady Spoda usually eats a portion and gets a doggie bag for later eating for those new viewers to the Joe and Nic TY vids . They order these meals for partially our benefit , most of their meals are modest while traveling
i like your channel man ,,thank's for all your great videos
I appreciate that! :)
I adore the entire state of UT ❤️ and St George is gorgeous town. If my husband could stand dry weather , I would move out of FL . So much to do , for me UT is a huge playground of fun .
Nice video and the small town senery
Greetings from Northumberland uk😊
In the early 90s I lived in Port Aransas, Texas population 1968.... Planning a trip for the Oct eclipse and it's grown so much I feel like a fossil.
I remember going to a river near there when it was low. We laid in the water and felt warm spring water massage us.... bubbling sand. We drove down from Pocatello (Poky)
Good morning Joe and Nicole I always enjoy your tours of small towns. Love the history you give about them. Watching from Jamaica 🇯🇲.
You drove by our house in St George. Cool.
I'm am fan of your UA-cam channel and your videos and I'm am from Roy Utah USA
It's a beautiful city. I've been, I'm not sure I could live there but I wouldn't count it out either.
Bryce Canyon and Arches National Parks are so beautiful... hope you got to opportunity to visit them... the Bronco would have fun too..😅
Great videos ,could you visit all the little mountain towns in sierra nevadas ,truckee ,soda springs ,markleeville, mammoth ,bridgeport
Hey guys! 👋 I love watching your videos. I adore you and your wife as a couple, yall are too cute. I crack up when she talks smack 😝. Keep making videos and stay safe. Jen from NH.❤
😊 thank you!
The first time I ever heard of St. George was from a documentary quite a few years ago about how many of the cast and crew on the 1956 film "The Conqueror" had died of cancer. It was said that about 40% of the people who worked on the set on location in southern Utah developed some form of cancer during their life time. The director, Dick Powell, actors John Wayne, Rita Hayworth, Agnes Morehead, John Hoyt, and others died from cancer. Lee Van Cleef died of a heart attack but had throat cancer at the time. Wayne's cancer it is believed came from smoking, but his son and other relatives who visited the set were treated for various cancers. Another actor upon hearing he had cancer committed suicide. Morehead neither smoked nor drank.
The 50s were the Cold War years and there were various nuclear tests in Nevada/Utah area. I guess not too many electoral votes in those areas then. In some tests which were above ground much of the radiation fallout drifted and fell near St. George near where filming was taking place. There were about a 100 nuclear test bombs detonated in the area for over a decade. Howard Hughes produced the film, and when they had to do re-shoots back in Hollywood, Hughes had tons of the soil shipped back there. Had to make it real. Hughes, apparently feeling some guilt over having the film shot at such a hazardous waste site, bought all the prints-- hoping not to have them distributed.
In any event the controversy went on for years, especially for TV programs and newspapers looking to increase sales on stories that the set was haunted, or cursed by the native peoples, or government conspiracy cover-ups. Some say the cancer rate for all on the set was no better or worse than the national average. Anyway, that's how I first heard about St. George. The last time I was there was in the 90s and everything looked so new. Now I know why, all that growth! Apparently there isn't much fallout these days from new-comers and visitors from the old fallout news! Also there have been several movies made in the St. George area since the Cold War years and no one seems too freaked out about the old cancer curse of 1956 "The Conqueror." For what it is worth, critics panned the flick.
just can't wait for the giant ants and spiders to come crawling into the city.
@@markbajek2541 > Don't forget the giant grasshoppers jumping into, and giant praying mantis flying into the city! No need to worry about giant gila monsters though, I think St. George was a dragon slayer.
Downwinders
Gee, they weren't there filming long enough to make much of a difference. It's not like they lived there over time. I'd look at where these people came from instead. What is the cancer rate there now?
Also back when the tests were going on people used to go out near the test sites to watch them from a distance wearing sun glasses. Now I bet those people did get cancer.
@@standunitedorfall1863 >I suppose if you're downwind and breathing fall out you don't need to be there that long, just long enough for radioactive material to enter the body. It would only take a few seconds. As I understand it the test were going on doing the shooting of the scenes which were about 150 miles away from the test site, but the fall out material was blown downwind from the test site in the direction of St. George. Experts at the time predicted the fall out would not go towards St. George, but they were wrong.
Was the movie set "cursed," or did the crew get cancer directly related to the bomb testing? Or was it just another media way of selling magazines and TV programming? I read that they couldn't make a direct correlation between the testing and the incidence of cancer with the crew. I read all that long ago though. Don't know if there have been recent studies on the same subject. Many of the stars smoked and drank heavily, and in those days many of the things we now know that can cause cancer wasn't known then so things like the use of lead and fiberglass and mercury may been routinely used by many. One of the actors didn't smoke or drink however. I think I also read that the incident of cancer among the crew was no better or worse than the national US average. Since the issue didn't come up in many later pictures shot there, and there has been a population boom since then with no higher than normal special cancer concerns perhaps there never was a real story, I don't know. I would think the soil and everything about the town would still be contaminated, but I don't know about half-life stuff. Apparently the area has been well tested for contamination since then and the green light has long since been given. It hasn't stopped movie making there or citizens moving in.
There was a study about a Pacific atoll where many of its citizens did die as a direct result of atomic testing near the area. I think that island or portions of it are still off-limits to humans.
Many of the people (scientists) that built the atomic bomb, as well as reporters, etc watched the tests at the Trinity(?) site in New Mexico. They wore sun glasses to shield off the brightness, but I haven't read anything where they got cancer watching the test.
I love it here. Glad I moved here in 2011
Wow! I think the most amazing thing is that you certainly don’t look your age if you were in college in 1980!
Thank you. I feel the age, though, for sure. :)
I travel thru there once or twice a year it is pretty isn't it you two stay well.
I'll have to try that Cliff Side place.
Joe and Nic , are you back on the road again? I thought you were taking a rest? Watching and enjoying.
We are!
You guys look dynamite together! I love your energy, style, and the places you share! God bless!
Thank you!
WOW, another amazing video. Your videos always impart useful information about the locations you visit. Often they surprise me with details about places I've always known were there but knew little about. Other times, as in this case, I've learned something useful about a town I never knew existed. And may possibly add to my travel vacation plans.
"Over the past 30 years..." that's about how long I've been passing through St George on my way to and from Zion and the parks. As you say, the place has exploded...the development strip seems destined to extend all the way to Hurricane (if it hasn't already). It's cool to do the downtown ramble with you--I've done the same, even have a picture of the Dixie Photo Shop in an album somewhere. So, you're headed for a haunted hotel in the middle of nowhere in Nevada, eh? The Mizpah, maybe? Happy trails!
Thanks, YD. And yes, the Mizpah. :)
Joe-- since you mentioned it in this video, how about Nauvoo, Illinois? Next time on your travels in that area? You might check it out -- sort of like a Centralia, without the smoking ground. Thanks.....Ken, from N.Y.C.
Grew up in cedar city, we'd go to st George almost every weekend cause it was the "big city" alittle more to do. Up on the dixie rock close by where you started the video was a popular place to hang out at night until the cops showed up and kicked us out
Went to college at SUU, played football down there. Loved it.
@@chubbrock659go T-Birds!
You're in hotspring Country if you're still out west be sure to hit a few up it's the right time of year for them
I saw Debbie Reynolds do a concert at the outdoor Amphitheater there. WOW. it was a wonderful little town.
Tuacahn! Fantastic theater in the red rocks!
@@chubbrock659 That would've been awesome to show off on the video, as well as nearby Coyote Gulch Art Village in beautiful desert zen, Kayenta. So much left out but hopefully another video someday
St. George looks nice and that restaurant looks 🔥🔥🔥. Really enjoying your road trip!
Well another great video. You guys sure come up with some great places to visit. One question though, in the opening scenes the was a large white D on the side the escarpment. Any clues as to why or what it represents? Thanks again for the great videos, I also enjoyed the previous one on Hildale, Utah & Colorado City, Arizona. Stay safe.
Out west the letters on a hill or mountain usually represent the nearest high school or college. In this case it stands for Dixie.
I was there with my family on the way home from Nebraska in 1952. All I remember is the service station where we got the car fixed.
Wow, long time ago! Not even close to the same place now
Would it be possible to add a historical photo, if possible, of what the city centers looked like originally? That would be interesting...love your channel.
I know there are a couple on Google. Just search "St. George in the early days/1880's". There aren't many though.
Hi from Dixie ❤
Hi
Nicole got a big girl plate this time, lol. Good video!
Hey Joe … maybe I missed it but I don’t think you explained what the cannon had to do with pulverizing the red rock. Incredible history of the cannon though. Safe travels. I live about an hour outside of Vegas in Arizona .. good luck with the traffic 👍
To me, it looks like they would hoist it in the air, then drop it on the rocks...
you always making me hungry lol
You could've taken a free tour inside that temple as it just had a 3 year rennovation and is open to the public for a short time. This is my hometown. My mom has lived just down from that temple since 1934. Now there's another brand new temple opening this December out in Little Valley which is not in view. If you want to see some huge million dollar homes that's where the "pretty" people live. Too many people have moved here, it's ruined now. Lots of crime happening.
I think it's better with more people. It is becoming diverse and the crime rate really hasn't changed since the city has lied about it since the city pretty much started.
Thanks for sharing another city out west. The food looks great, not bad on prices, Nicole's plate looked yummy! Take care Joe & Nicole...
Theres a Hospital in Boston named Brigum Young, its one of the best Hospitals in the world!!❤❤
Did y'all drive along the vermillion cliffs, up through the Kaibab, to St. George?
The sky seemed inordinately blue in your video....
No it really is like that here. (Mostly in the spring, summer, and fall).
I have traced my family roots back to Brigham Young. It's nice to see a glimpse of what he established in Utah.
Brigham had 56 wives and 57 children. Half of Utah is related to him
