    2016 coldzera was unreal. As a North American I got front row seats to him taking tournaments away from us constantly so I just wanted to make a vid to help people understand his elite power and best spots. He's got a top 5 resume for sure and genuinly could be considered the GOAT rifler.

    i think there are factors that you didnt mention that i feel contextualize niko's career
    niko has always had to play on international rosters, and he has still been an unbelievable force on each of the teams he played on sometimes even regardless of how good the team was. he has had to work with a mixed bag of talent and speak a second language and fit in different systems throughout his career. one big criticism of niko that applies in the comparison to cold is his worrying amount of poor finals performances. while this doesn't exonerate those poor showings, i think its way more difficult for him to fall back on a system when hes playing with rosters of variable quality individually and tactically.
    in contrast, cold's peak happened with three of the same players, all three of which are legendary names in each of their respective roles in their prime, and then three others who weren't as important to the team's success as any of the others, and two of which were fairly similar players anyway. he got to play in one system the entire time speaking in his native tongue.
    add to all of this that niko has had to adapt to different metas and hes still finding ways to carry with a rifle in a style that is not as favorable as cold stats wise, but i think is more impactful. put cold in a system that isnt what they had in 2016-17 and you saw what happened. i can trust niko to get back to top 3 level no matter who he has to play with.

    • @launders
      @launders  Рік тому +40

      that’s fair but niko has played with plenty of unbelievable lineups in his career. international lineups are also easier to stack and clearly are extremely popular right now. at the time cold joined luminosity, he was the reason they won. short peak is a problem for him but he never played with decorated CS:GO players, he’s a big reason we talk about any of them

    • @snooples
      @snooples Рік тому +13

      @@launders personally i would disagree, i feel like the only players niko has played with that hit fallen and fer's peaks are rain and maybe guardian, everyone else if u rly look at them didnt hit that level when they were with niko, even in the case of support i dont think anyone compares to taco
      you are right that nikos lineups have been good throughout the years, but they werent consistently excellent like colds were, now some of tht might be cuz cold was just that good all the time and niko has had some drop off periods, but i do think sometimes it was his team and its very hard to maintain over that long of a period so i dont think it should take too much away from niko
      cold is fs #2 rifler for me tho and he defo has great qualities i just prefer nikos

    • @CS_Sardine
      @CS_Sardine Рік тому

      @@snooples I feel like Niko has been sick for a loooong time but not implemented and fitted into a team properly. He need to be sick AND click with teammates. It's unclear from an outsider if it's issues with him or with all teams around him. You and me can't say for sure.
      S1mple is a good example, he could carry teams but if the team is not set up properly it doesn't work in the long run.

    • @mrrvo

      @sh1nenkai258 Рік тому +5

      @@snooples niko's lineups were all good, or potentially good, its just that niko igling ruined the lineups or him not liking a certain thing of it was the problem (talking post mousesports ofc, he couldnt do anything aobut that)
      but niko is the best rifler of all time
      i think the fact niko can always peform good in any team is the deciding factor
      everyone boils it down to longevity which is part of my answer but the fact that niko can peform in defective teams is the key
      cold after taco left was still good but not what he was in his prime, and when he went international (ofc niko's igling hurt him quite abit) he was quite bad
      niko when ikgling with faze 2019 stil lput up numbers, and in g2 he hit his id say peak second half of 2021, ive never seen someone put up the numbers and impact he did that consistently and on the biggest stages, the closest is yekindar carrying the fuck out of liquid in groupstage of proleague season 16
      i think niko is 1st but quite a margin to behonest
      to be the best rfifler of all time you must peform even when ur team is shit

    Could be interesting... Thought of this while remembering cold jumping 4k on mirage and thinking, "how tf are you supposed to jump peak that" and when, etc. Get right on mirage, shroud on cache overpass, Edward, f0rest. Etc.

      Coming from SA, where servers were hosted in Brazil primarily at the time (circa 2016 until around 2018 where valve added chilean servers), everyone, and I mean EVERYONE and their mother had their steam account named either 'something-zera', 'fer', or 'FalleN'. I am very much inclined to agree, except I always felt impressed by FalleN.
      However time has given me some perspective, just like it happened (for me) with astralis, and I came to realize the team itself was impressive because they were one of the first teams to implement an actual system. And much like astralis after them, SK/LG defined the meta.
      Also, looking back, cold feels akin to s1mple in that they'd do such crazy shit tht you'd grow accustomed to it. Even if pro play wasn't as polished as it is now, winning a 1vX against other pros at the highest level of play in a stage isn't easy, and coldzera was able to do that consistently.

    You bringing chess into csgo is so cool. I think Fischer is really the best player you could compare Coldzera to just because of the duration of his prime. However let's take a second and take in how absurdly dominant Fischer was during his reign. For starters let's look at the US championships. Fischer played 8 and won all 8. After winning his 6th US championship Fischer went into a semi retirement. At this point in his life he had played more than 2000 games and won 94% of them. Imagine a single csgo player or even team that dominant. Imagine an entry fragger who won 94% of first blood aim duels. But wait it gets even more insane. After leaving the competitive chess scene for 2 years Fischer would return to the chess scene in dominant form during an invitational tournament placing second only to the current world champion at the time, Boris Spasky. From this tournament on Fischer won every single match and tournament that he completed until his death. Between 1969 and 1972 Fischer was unstoppable. The Soviets threw their top players at him in both blitz to no avail. Fischer took them in stride winning by margins of 4 and 5. During the 1971 candidates the Soviets compiled a dossier on Fischer in an effort to help GM Mark Taimanov overcome the american. Fischer promptly beat Taimanov 6-0. In game 2 when questioned about his winning move, Fischer replied he had read it in a Russian text. It appeared the victim had come more prepared than anyone could have expected. He won the next match in similar fashion. 6-0. His final candidates match was against former World Champion Tigran Petrosian. When questioned about Fischer Petrosian replied that he wasn't concerned. Fischer was no genius. Fischer proceeded to win the match 6 1/2 to 2 1/2, setting a winning streak of 20 in the process. By summer of 1972 Fischer was rated 125 elo points above the next highest rated player. He won the world chess championship the same year. Now just imagine for a second a force this unstoppable in pro CS.

    I don’t think facing s1mple or ZyWoo nowadays is as scary as facing coldzera in 2016/2017. Maybe it’s because the game is in a whole different level and the style of play has changed dramatically, but it’s unarguable that coldzera was one of the scariest players to have against you on the server during that time.

      Depends on the players and how they consider the players, even rn there are players who aren't afraid on taking on zywoo or simple

    • @yomamaMTV

      Probably because on a good day, a sh1ro, an ax1le, a NiKo, a Dev1ce (when he played), degster, yekindar, kscerato, monesy etc could all be at the same level as s1mple and zywoo in 2022.
      in 2016, it was pretty much just coldzera, NiKo, and s1mple as top 1 contenders.
      No other player on their good day could touch these guys because they were consistently god tier.
      The meme was that coldzera and NiKo on their worst day would still be the best players in the world.
      s1mple was probably 2nd or 3rd best in the world that year and cold had a .08 higher rating which is the difference between a NiKo and a s1mple rating wise in today's climate granted using a different rating (2.0 vs 1.0) but its still substantial so that goes to show how far ahead of everyone else coldzera was in 2016, when the 3rd of 2nd best player was 0.08 rated lower than the best. its a big difference. I would have has s1mple as 2nd that year though if we factor achievements and carrying.

      If you watch old games, you hear casters talk about "that feeling when cold is the last alive" and its like for any normal player the chance is 0 but since its cold it actually feels like it's gonna happen. There's only like 2 other players that had that feeling that year which was s1mple and niko. This year its pretty much anyone in the top 7 or top 5.

      I don't know, I think players nowaday are a lot better than before I think. I players like yekindar are better than prime coldzera. I think for s1mple and zywhoo it's not even close.

      I remember a semphis interview of his feelings playing both of them on a consistent basis, remember we had ESEA and ESL pro pleague played online that had teams play many matches in a short amount of time, so he had a good underestanding of both of them. He said that cold was really anoying to play against as you felt you couldn't kill him as the system was made totally for him with flashes, HE, mollys and the structure, he felt that he was untouchable and with s1mple you just knew he was coming but if you didnt beat him in his own game, you were dead. They were totally opposite basically, s1mple was ultra agresive god among people and the other was an ultra consistent killer from the back of the pack

    If you think about the HLTV top players s1mple is the first one to bring the awp to the top 1 in 2018 and has shifted the paradigm of a team (alonside dev1ce) as to what a focal point on a team can be.
    Before cold both get_r1ght and olof were pure exclusive riflers, cold was the first true hybrid. I would rank him higher and give him that merit more than rifling alone. Still for me he was the best player on a very weak era and went downhill really fast, that puts his case on a weak spot as in 2017 you cuould argue that both device and s1mple were on a raw perspective maybe better.
