I wish I had you right now Scotty. Almost stuck in Salem Oregon with failing brakes and I know it. Shudders when decelerating off freeways, push pedal all the way down to barely get her to stop. I know how to do it myself but in a financial crisis now. Living in my minivan until my great new job starts in a few weeks. Which I pray I'll make it to before this car fails. Already replaced starter, alternator, tires, and stopped coolant leaks for now. Me and my wife are good moral people in bad times. Left our living situation due to the other people being highly immoral to say the least but I had to keep my wife safe. She's working I'm waiting. God help us. Thanks for the videos Scotty...😂🤣😂🤣👍👍

I have a friend at work with one in great shape like this one. I ask him if he's ready to sell it every time he drives it. It's a manual, white in color, and only has 120k miles on it.
Well, for good reason. The Celica and Supra were definitely good cars, and better than the competent Nissan alternatives of the day (200SX and Skyline). What wins in terms of overall quality and performance was the Toyota Celica GT4. Has the legendary reliability people expected, but at better performance than the heavier 200SX cars at the time. It really flies, like an MR2, only with more internal space and AWD.
If you are comparing a Nissan ( a REAL Nissan) to a Toyota, I can agree they are both good cars. But Renault junk vs Toyota? That;'s like saying water is more solid then a rock!
The 1990's were definitely the heyday of Japanese vehicles. They were attractive. They were reliable. They were just plain better. If I could turn back time and had an endless supply of cash, a new 240SX would be in my garage.

I think that's a customer's car Mr. Kilmer. I remembered a while back that I had thoughts of doing a '97-'98 or '95-'96 240SX build. I prefer more the '97-'98 because I love the aesthetic and had a circuit track car build plan but obviously I have no money for it. I honestly wish I would have. Now I'm still thinking of doing a '70 Plymouth Barracuda with a Chevy LS or Chevy 350 engine and modify it.
My 2nd car was 1992 Nissan Sentra. Stick shift. It what is the nicest little car , pretty basic but it got 40 miles to the gallon no matter if it was city or highway driving. I used to call it my little truck because it would get through the snow really well as if it were a truck, but it did not ride like a truck, it rode very smoothly. The current Versa stick shift is very similar to the Sentra that I had.
@@Terminator4000 I had NO CLUE that these are plentiful in New Zealand. Man, I hope that I can either visit or move to New Zealand one day, but not the car lol. Rare cars = high $. How much do good condition ones sell for down in N.Z.?
Scotty, I bought my grandson a 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R. I know it was built during the Renault era, but in my opinion, it's a sweet little car. We have done some basic mechanics on it, just so he knows how to do it, but really, it's a solid, reliable car. You're right about zero legroom in back, but it too has a nice sized trunk, the 2.5L engine is purring, and all in all, I'm very pleased.
370z is good too. I had a 6 speed g37 and never had any issues while I owned it then sold it for more then I paid for it and still regret that. It was a 6 speed manual sedan
Scotty took me back 20 years. I was zipping around in Bay Area in this car with a manual transmission and had the time of my life. The car belonged to my cousin and the other cousin owned an older one and my uncle owned the really old one. I drove them all. Nostalgia!!!
I could blow the doors off that Nissan with my 02 Acura RSX type S, Scotty. I only added a K&N intake-no other mods. Just good maintenance- NGK plugs, Denso O2 sensor, Wix filter with Honda synthetic blend oil. I wet-sanded the lights and put Sylvania bulbs in. It does 80 mph at 3200 rpm, but 3rd gear is a screamer when V-tec kicks in. You've inspired me, Scotty! Thanks!
I had a 1995 240sx. I dropped an rb26dett and made it 4 wheel drive. With a cherry blossom conversion. I had 980hp.6 speed The entire set up with the car cost me 10k back in 1999. I was 19. Before the fat and the furious ruined the industry. Made prices higher for parts and killed a lot of good shops. Like motorex in California. I was smoking vets, lambos, Ferrari in Houston. Now my Nissan gtr 2015 has 1850hp. I miss my 240. First car i bought.
My roommate and another close friend in college both had bought a brand new 240SX. They both drove them aggressively, but not torturously. Both cars needed the clutch replaced 3 times in 5 years. Very weak clutches.
@@MiguelGarcia-nl3ci I wouldn't call it slow, but keep in mind that I am talking about the red top that comes from 91 Silvia. Just a few mods and it's a fun car. I also had an EK Civic with a B16A2 that got stolen. The Civic was fun, but in another way, I have to admit that banging through gears with VTEC did bring a smile to your face.
That car is the S14 Silvia. The Nissan Silvia goes all the way back to 1965. I remember my s14 Zenki had a 280z clutch and 300zx brakes. Fun little car. Was my daily driver for 12 years.
Some parts that used to be interchangeable between various models of cars are head lights, tail lights and door seals. These days, with cheap plastic lights, they make them different for every model and year to year. Over the past ten years or so, most cars seem to have proprietary door seals that have unnecessary odd shapes in them, forcing people to buy replacement door seals directly from dealers, rather than buying door seals from a roll and cutting them to length. We used to sell the same door seals that car dealers sold. The only difference was we could cut whatever length people wanted and ours was a lot cheaper than the dealer's price. For example, I had a customer who needed to replace his boot (trunk) seal. It needed three metres of top blister pinchweld (the seal). A dealer wanted over AU$700 for a joined boot seal. Direct, from the same supplier they use, exactly the same seal (from the same factory) retailed in our store for AU$300. However, my customer bought exactly the same seal off the roll for only AU$30, plus a couple of dollars for a tube of glue to join the ends. -That's exactly what the supplier does anyway.
Though not in the same class as 240sx, my completely stock '07 Impreza 2.5i SE has drawn a fair amount of offers. Apparently, tuners want it to have a clean slate so to speak.
Aye must be the end of the world. That said I pretty much ignore all of Scotties recommendations when it comes to car brands. He takes too many broad stokes when talking about manufactures.
My dad bought a Nissan Altima 1991 bought on the same year, and it carried us through thick and thin, rarely broke down and was great to drive. He got an offer from a buyer who does car moding for $5000 range and my dad straight refused to sell it. The car is still running today we had it restored recently, as most of its internals were rusted, but it still has the in-line stock V6 engine, even the damn AC works. unfortunately the stock carburetor was beyond help so it was replaced, we kept fixing it till it never came back xD
Scotty I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier everything is still original (85 K) except the A/C which is long gone. The only thing I've ever bought for it is tires and batteries. Headliner is falling down and the clear coat is chipping off but never had any problems with it in the 17 years I've owned it. Looking to maybe buy a Sentra next year. Hope it lasts half as long. Love your videos.
Only Colorado legalized shrooms so far. Thought Arizona and New Mexico would be first because of indigenous folk. Probably ok on the res with tribal law anyway.
You mentioned about a Toyota Previa being a well made car, and I very much agree. I bought one new in 1993. It still runs well today like the day I drove it off the showroom. It has 275,000 miles on an original engine. It also has rear wheel drive just like the 240 SX.
And for the 89-94s they all came in Fastback, Coupe, or Convertibles. The LE's all had leather interior, SE's had LSD rear axles. Remembered living near Houston in the 90s-00s, the 240sx was a very popular car. I'd drive my old fastback to meets, some of the other guys had SR20DETs, modified LS1s, superchargers/turbochargers. Ahh those were the days!!!
That’s a 97 or 98 kouki s14 chassis.. great car! The ka24de was originally designed for their d21 pickup but ended up being used in both 240sx and Altima along with the d21. Nissan really needs to bring back a s16 model 😔
That’s a gold mine there Scotty. My friend’s mom had a 95 with a 5 speed manual and we had a blast with that thing in high school. It was actually his dad of all people that wrecked and totaled it.
@@iamnoah26 I'm referring to low maintenance vehicles by the way. But if you feel the need to go 95 in a 35 and risk killing people or yourself then go ahead. What ever floats your boat
Companies make unreliable cars so they break quickly and sell more in maintaining. If they make good ones, they would actually get loyal customers and make their competitors look bad. Don't understand why build quality is not a priority.
Baldeep Birak Yea but companies like bmw know that people will still buy them just for the flex either way so they can just make them unreliable as hell knowing that people are still gonna buy them
BMWs are meant to be leased and replaced within 5 years to try getting a closed circle in theier recycling and production cycles. It is actually quite smart untill you realize that this businessmodel exposes the blatend consumerism of loyal BMW customers.
They used to make reliable cars, like my 1977 Toyota Celica I had in HS. Put over 500,000 miles on it. But you see mechanics have to eat and they weren't making much money when these cars were around. So now they are designed to break more often and with their technology and computer electronics, they cost a lot more to fix. Godamn the 21st century !!
I had this car, a 1997 and mine had 345k miles on it before I sold it. Original engine, no leaks. Normal maintenance is all it needed. Great car, my biggest regret was selling this car, and been looking for another one for some time now that isn't trashed.
Thw Datsun 280Z. That's the one thing I failed to get for my mom before she died. I wanted so badly to see her drive one. She fell in love with it the first year it came out in some car mag back then.. Makes me wanna cry..
In a way yes, however the new wrx is cheap as hell. Back in the day they were at least a $60k car, now they're half that. Considering inflation, that 60k would be 100k today. Here in oz that is where we got the og wrx's straight from japan in 93/94.
I have a 1992 s13 240, and it’s the best thing. I hate new missions, but this car is amazing. When I got it, it was sporty and nice. Now it’s still sporty, but my car has a lot of miles. The odometer stopped working at 289,834, 6 years ago. This car probably close 400,000 miles. I’ve never had any major problems in this car.
I have 96 Nissan Maxima with 230xxx on it and it still runs like a champ I just had the water pump fixed and I do the basic oil changes every 3k miles and it goes baby
Mazda split up with ford and started making unreliable diesel engines. Also there is a big problem for nissan and mitsubishi, they are bankrup. They could not live without renault's money developing new platforms for their models. For example, because Mitsubishi are in the alliance they will develop a new Lancer Evolution basead on the Megane RS
Got two of them, if you talk to the vaping ricers you'll find some good examples that were a tad out of their price range. One is now a sports car/donor with the interior, other unnecessaries and original engine squirreled away, the other is my daily.
I think the 155 mph top speed limit on the 370Z is set by the ECU, not due to the hp limit of the engine. I saw a full-power run of a 370Z on the German Autobahn where the computer's speed limit was disabled. Watching the video made of the dash gauges showed the car topping out at about 175 mph, pretty amazing for a 3.7 liter engine.
I’m shocked Scotty! You have a fever? My oldest girl had a 1991 Nissan 240X 5 speed. She got it while in high school and drove it 4 years to college then finally at 197K she got rid of it. Those K24 4 cylinders were bulletproof!
My sister had a 87 Skyline and it was bullet proof. My brother-in-law treated it like crap, never serviced it and it still ran. They ended up selling it a couple years ago for $350 to some kid who wanted to get it running as it had been parked for several years and turn it into a drift car.
Sold these back in the day(93). Worked at Difeo Nissan in Jersey city. Weren't all that popular as the price was kinda high for what you got. Still a nice ride.
The 240SX had an even better motor in japan. The car is called the 200SX(hatch) or the Silvia(coup) over there and they had motor options of 1.8L NA, 2L NA, and 2L turbo. The 2L turbo engine being one of the most popular motors around. The SR20DET.
Hi Scotty, It is sad Nissan went to crap quality but I still had to buy a new 370Z because I like them and always wanted one. The insides do seem crappy like the shift knob is wearing out and where I rest my elbow on the door is wearing out, also the seat belts don't retract properly. Mechanics of the vehicle seem solid as I have been pounding it hard, lets say on the track for the last two years and am having lots of fun. I do change the fluids and the two intake filters a Kilometer or two before they are due for service; the car runs like I have just bough it new yesterday. The manual has all the instructions on what to change and how in the DIY section(surprised the hell out of me that the manual has a DIY section) if they missed something in the manual the dealer told me the quantities without any hesitation. I asked about warranty they said that they don't have any issues as long as you buy all the items from them(at proper intervals) and they have a record in their system. so in conclusion I would buy another Nissan in this category because it still seems like it is constructed to a certain crowd of enthusiasts that want the dream to live on. I wouldn't bother with any of the other crap they sell. I checked out all the other cars in their lot and had two loaners because of something stupid(under warranty) thing, but that is another story for another time.

I had 980hp.6 speed
The entire set up with the car cost me 10k back in 1999.

240SX is a damn good car.
Wow, A NON riced 240sx, WHERE CAN I BUY!!!!!!! NOW
Though not in the same class as 240sx, my completely stock '07 Impreza 2.5i SE has drawn a fair amount of offers. Apparently, tuners want it to have a clean slate so to speak.

“Killer cold AC?” I just saw an AC condenser in my mind with someone in a well going, “ahhhhhhhh!”
Mercedes couldn’t make a reliable fully loaded S class if they tried
Because companies only plan for the next 2 quarters not 6 years a head.
Ironically they make their cars cheaper for them but more costly to us
ba - Soon cars will be 3D printed.
In a way yes, however the new wrx is cheap as hell. Back in the day they were at least a $60k car, now they're half that. Considering inflation, that 60k would be 100k today. Here in oz that is where we got the og wrx's straight from japan in 93/94.
Nissans ka24de in my opinion one of the most stout engines they ever made. They can run forever.
There isnt a company that makes 4 cylinder rwd cars
Bmw: Am i a joke to you
Nissan (including Mitsubishi) needs to part ways with Renault, like Mazda separating from Ford, in order for them to make better and reliable cars
😂😂😂😂
Good luck finding one of those that hasn't been defiled by some vaping ricer bro.

It warms my heart that Scotty took the time to reset the camera so he could include a shot stating "the Celica's sitting here jealous."
My sister had a 87 Skyline and it was bullet proof. My brother-in-law treated it like crap, never serviced it and it still ran. They ended up selling it a couple years ago for $350 to some kid who wanted to get it running as it had been parked for several years and turn it into a drift car.

Truck engines don't rev too well. But they will pull another 240..
The 240SX had an even better motor in japan. The car is called the 200SX(hatch) or the Silvia(coup) over there and they had motor options of 1.8L NA, 2L NA, and 2L turbo. The 2L turbo engine being one of the most popular motors around. The SR20DET.
Hi Scotty,
It is sad Nissan went to crap quality but I still had to buy a new 370Z because I like them and always wanted one.
