- This is a review of the new Dangerfield PRAXIS Dual Gage Lock Pick Set. The kit includes TWO lock pick sets, one in 0.023" that are thick enough to take abuse, and a second identical set in 0.015" for narrow and paracentric locks. This is the IDEAL advanced kit, yet has everything a beginner needs too as long as you are careful with the thinner picks while learning. Now I understand why this lock I was practicing on was so damn tight, I needed the thinner rake and tensor.

Thanks again Bill, very good video and description, certainly the thinner picks are indeed very useful in narrow keyways, nice that manufacturers are taking onboard the observations highlighted by yourself and colleague locksmiths and hobby pickers.
I just got this set. Prior to this I just had a beginner Southord set that didn't have a bogata and I broke 3 picks and a tension wrench out of it (my fault, not Southords!). These Praxis picks are very nice, and it didn't take much cleaning to make them very smooth. So far, I'm loving it.
it's awesome to see a kit with such a good focus on slimmer and thicker picks like this. and those tension wrenches are excellent as well!

Happy retirement Bill! Thank you for your service. This was the first set I bought to get started at lock picking (after your review of course). @@frogwashing Hope they works for you. I still use them - but now I have quite a few other sets. Are you in Europe or US? You might also consider the Southord C2010 - but then you need to buy extra TOK-tensioners (btw - you can never have too many tensioners of any BOK or TOK kind; expect to modify them to fit a particular lock).

Hey Bill. Have you seen the T.O.O.O.L. Wicked Waves set? They are basically quad and quint Bogotas and worms, but the peak spacing on the quint is shorter, rapidly turning into one of my favorite picks for smaller locks.

I really like the selection of picks. It would be nice to have the 0.015 and 0.023 kits available separately.
When I started out and looking for picks, I look for "beginners" pick sets. I bought about 3 different sets trying to learn picking. The problem is that they are all too thick and don't have good tensioners. I ended up buying 3 sets tensioners from Sparrows to get everything shown here. 3 months into picking, I finally come to the conclusion that 70% of the "beginners" picks / rakes I owned are pretty useless. Had I start with this set, I would have saved so much money and have a great set of picks. I just compare my favorite picks / rakes / tensioners are all in this set and they come in two different thicknesses. This set is probably the next one for me to buy.
My favorite picks are - Short hook, The GEM - medium hook, Deforest Diamond - deep hook. & 3 peak Bogota. .040" and .050" TOK tensioner + few L shape ones. I don't use anything else.

What a lovely set!! Would love to win this kit. I bought a kit with my minimal knowledge and it was for the USA locks and I'm UK. So my bad. Shame really cause I'm really wanting to get ahead in this game and become a locksmith with a good business in the future after leaving the army not long ago. Only done 4 years so no leave package. However Bill gave me some great advice through email for a kit from Madbobs but with xmas coming up and the kids here then I'm just waiting to see how good santa is going to be to us all the kids. Hopefully some good deals can be had in the stores. All the best Bill!
I do like the stuff Dangerfield do. I've found they are pretty quick on fulfilling orders too so am super excited about these... If I don't win them then I think maybe I might have to treat myself for Christmas ;)

Just ordered a set! Hoping they arrive in the 2-5 days that the site says (I'll be impressed if they do).
UPDATE: it arrived yesterday and had a customs sticker on it. I'll be home tonight and be able to tell more about it but I thought these were shipping from a US warehouse
another update: the case doesn't hold the tension wrenches very well, every time I open the case, I have to pick em out and put em back in their compartment. I, also, had to do A LOT of finishing (lots of nicks). I think they're good otherwise but handles would be a great addition
Ordered mine on 27Dec. from American warehouse. 55 bucks and change, up to ten days for shipping. My very first set, just hope I can one day pick a lock LOL. Never tried before.
gettinready101: I advise you to put some handles on them when they arrive. Bill used some heat shrink tubing on his (per another video he did) and I followed suit and it made a world of difference.
Ok and as per your advice I will do that. Do you recall the size of the heat shrink? I will look for the video.
The pick slots are loose and there is a hole in the case underneath the zipper that allows picks to fall out of the case. I lost a pick before I discovered the problem. Dangerfield is aware of the problem but still shipping the set so you will need to get a different case for the picks.

Hmmmm... just ordered the Sparrow Tuxedo+ set, now I'm seeing this set. Oh well, I'm an absolute beginner and the Sparrow set comes with 3 practice locks, so it's a better value (it was $100).

I just canceled my order to Mad bob I was waiting 5 weeks smh..There are not worth the wait They email me apologizing telling me they have 100s of orders and only two people ..smh I told them they better step up their production or lose out to their competition as they just did with me.With a little refining and sanding they are the same picks as Mad Bob's it's crazy to wait! 5weeks for picks in today's market

It would be nice to see deep hook in this set. Form my point of view it is missing.
