Hello my lovelies!
Hereโs a new song for you called โThe Shadow of Timeโ.
Everyone and their uncle can name examples of great Victorian literature when it comes to England. However, many beautiful European works deserve equal praise. Many of you have asked me for European Classic Literature Recommendations, so here they are:
1. Les Misรฉrables by Victor Hugo
2. Madam Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
3. The Trial by Franz Kafka
4. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
5. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
6. Father Goriot by Honorรฉ de Balzac
7. In Search of Lost time by Marcel Proust
*_Tell me, my dears, have you read any of these books? If yes, what was your impression? What other Victorian Era European Books would you add to the list?*
I would add Goethe, any of his works. Can't get enough of him.
Do philosophers count? Like Nietzsche maybe?
I have only read Les Misรฉrables from this list. It was not the easiest read. But I did enjoy it and would like to read it again sometime.
Anna Katerina is one of my favorites. ๐. โค

I want to go in this place and enjoy this rain
I live in the North of England, it's nice but too much can make you feel miserable too.
โ@@ilamilam9154 I've often wondered about that. ๐
I wish I could step into this video and leave all the hatred and violence in the world behind. I'm so tired of it all. It's beyond my comprehension why and how there can be so much discord, disrespect, discrimination, disregard for humanity. In my own country with the hateful rhetoric every day that's taking its toll and is exhausting beyond belief. It makes me want to run away to a time and place where life would be more kind and gentle and people would treat one another as they themselves want to be treated. โค
You can. Just get out of America and go to a more happy fun country in Europe or Latin America or SE Asia. Lots of expats are doing it but you're not supposed to know about it. You've been tricked into thinking that the whole world is the same as America. It isn't. I've been to 14 countries and this is the biggest secret you're not being told. Location changes your life, not positive thoughts as the new age and self help movement has tricked you into thinking.
What you've said makes me think of a line of Malcolm McDowell's from the movie "Time After Time."
He said, "Every age is the same, it's only love that makes any of them bearable."
That said, setting aside some time every day for nostalgia and tea is SO good for the soul in our incredibly complex and overwhelming present. My best to you, and to Regnum Umbrae.
@LostintheTangle
So poignant, so true .... love above all else IS indeed the way.
Blessings to you and may Peace be with you. ๐
You are not alone... I wish this same. I try to give a peaceful and loving... everything for my beloved: home, garden, food, music, art. It's not easy, but it's possible. All the bestโค
@barbarabal8922
Best to concentrate on our loved ones and do what we can to bring cheer to them and to ourselves in whatever way possible during the days ahead....and to be a reflection of Hope, Love and Peace to those we meet.
I recommend "Les Miserables" by V.Hugo. It's essential reading for anyone interested in classical literature, history and exploring human complexity. My favorite book - "The Karamazov Brothers" ๐
Couldn't agree more, both are great books, No longer human is a great book too, it's a classic Japanese literature, the writer commited suicide when he completed the book.
Thank you regnum umbrae
