Take this how you will from me, I normally can't stand these kinds of games.. but I'm addicted to this one. It's always "okay, one more go, I can do a little bit better"
In all honesty this is one of the most addictive games I've played in a long time , worth every penny! keeps making you want to try again straight after you die due to simple mistakes, wish more people did lets plays of it, might try one myself :P
Watching Rogue Legacy 2 streams vs. UA-cam algorithm = One sad but thankful teardrop. Hi from 2022 TB, Still miss you, and I treasure every time the algorithm brings you back into my feed.
did you enable just pressing down for those controls? It's also in the options. That way just pressing down will do those moves, so you only need to press one button at a time. Made it easier for me.
I've had my eye on this game for a bit and I'm glad you ended up giving a first impression on it. Turns out (for me) you were right, it's a lot harder with just a keyboard. Went out and bought a 360 controller, and wow, what a difference. Part of me thinks it because your left hand is used to navigating the directions where as the right had is used to using the action keys? Just a thought of mine. Love the videos, keep up the good work TB, and hats off to your crew behind the scenes too. ;)
Man thid game is just totally fcking awesome! So the journal entrys you find are really funny to read and the story line is also very epic feelin if you get into it. it's 3€ on steam right now also! The feeling you get when you finally defeated a boss is so awesome. And it's that you'll always find something more and more interesting and more mysterious is also very cool..
hey tb, could you PLEASE put an annotation on the video saying you CAN go back to the upgrade tree after getting equipment? just going left where the arrow points "to manor".
My favorite heir was Sir Useless, named like that, because I sucked using archmages for a while. Although he redeemed himself and then there was a Sir Useless II
Worth every fucking penny. I've pumped fucking hours into this game. Beat it twice. And I've still got shit to do. Like what? Like the Neo Bosses. They are total, total, total C*NTS! The keyboard's fine, btw.
the problem is you have to focus your upgrades on one thing because if you spread your gold thin of multiple upgrade/equipment/enchantments you level up fast but your gold cant keep up. im in a situation right now where upgrades cost an absurd amount of gold and i cant kill the monsters in the harder areas because i cant buy upgrades because i cant get gold because i cant kill monsters etc.etc.etc. so im essentially stuck and have to reset and start all over again.
I'm not gonna say if you were right or wrong, for obvious reasons, but I'm super glad to not be the only person who noticed this. Just getting I to his stuff (yes yes, I know), but man. He's not actually correct about much of what he says. Part of me (maybe the wrong part) can't help but feel how cheaply he made it. He phoned it in every time after he made it. I dunno, not my place. I wish him, as well as his family and friends eternal peace, I just have been wanting to say this for a while, and I don't feel like it's "too soon bro" anymore.
i'm sorry if i am wrong but isn't a medroidvania a title that let's you backtrack with new equipment like the earlier zelda titles? that would mean that this game is not a medroidvania but maybe i'm just getting my gametypes mixed
Haven't really gotten to that point yet, and I'm level 100 with everything except beastiality unlocked (In terms of the Manor) though I have yet to kill the Boss of Maya or The Darkness.
I have spent a lot of time walking around the castle, and I defeated a single boss, but after that, all the boss doors were locked! Why are they all locked? Is it one boss for every area(Maya, Land of Darkness, castle, forest) or something?
Gigantism is actually really helpful, because your hitbox becomes large enough that you can kill most anything without getting anywhere near you, I almost always choose that if given the choice. Great game though for sure
Did they rebalance Doomvases at some point? I feel like they're always pretty easy for me to dispatch just by waiting for them to complete the big, slow loop that they make back to the character.
Finished it in approx 25 hrs, it's fun to start with by by the time you get up to the last area (the dungeon), you're simply grinding to get better gear and the difficulty isn't there anymore as you one hit everything and tank what does manage to hit you.
? Where do you take that from? Currently my Paladin deals 154 Damage and my Hokage 269. That is about 75% more, which is easily outweighted by high Critchance and Critdamage.
They do all look fairly similar. It seems like there was a base design for warrior which they added extra elements to for other classes (paladin gets shield, archmage gets a beard, etc)
but can you kill a fire breathing dragon and after cut it's scales off to make dragon armor and then become a different classes and then go raiding in dungeons for phat lootz in minecraft? if not the game isnt for me
Why would I want a steam key to begin with then? What I said was buying from GOG or the site is the same thing, price is the same and you get the installer either way...
To me, this is absolutely a Rogue-like. I don't think they are characterized by the genre, but that particular trait of having only one shot at an ever-changing "life" and improving through failure. Looks fantastic...but I know if I start this now I won't get out of it for a long time. These things are like crack.
I agree with that. I don't really like roguelikes, because the thought of permanently losing my character and everything on them. But it seems like you keep your levels and I've liked platformers since I played Castlevania way back in the PS1 days. Also, I dig it's sense of humor.
Double Fine's game Massive Chalice has the same idea to it, ancestor to ancestor your hero gets stronger, each hero leaves behind a piece of equipment for the next hero of their bloodline, etc.
"Enable Quickdrop" This sets the keyboard to stab down on down rather than "stab+down". This is immensely helpful. To each his own on controller though.
this game has had my full and complete attention for the last few days. even when my buddies and i are queued up for a league of legends game ill play this on one of my secondary monitors in champ select or loading screen. its incredibly addictive. the combat is simplistic but at the later levels when you have 8 enemies throwing projectiles at you thats the way you want it cause the dodging is way more important than the number of attacks.
I tried playing RL with keyboard (spent many hours actually and even wrote a script to rebind the keys according to my liking). Overall that was a very frustrating experience. Guess I have to get a controller after all.
I can absolutely imagine someone starting a new game once familiar with the game and winning with his first dude, upon learning how to defeat all enemies and with dogged persistence in the face of trap rooms. Because some people are crazy like that.
By the way, if you turn on or force vsync, the portraits (and later, the guys with the purple spikey balls on chains) will spin less quickly and be more manageable.
there is a sort of story and I think there is a main boss through that door in he first room of the castle, there is one boss per area and one final one.
no problem, have fun! also, seeing as your computer is about as good as mine, if you get the trait near- or farsighted, the game will run slower too, since it's an intensive effect to create , so try to avoid those.
A few things you missed that I feel others would benefit knowing. The door in the beginning will open once all 4 bosses are killed, if you kill a boss it will stay killed even after you die and continue your quest. The full Vampiric armor will not be OP, it's only useful if you don't get hit due to it's low coverage in armor opposed to other armors. Gigantism makes you a larger target, Dwarfism is the opposite.
I think thats for aesthetics, not mutch of a challenge. With mods it can get exciting tho, but almost all of my mates playing it for the building part, or for adventure maps, not for the 'awesome' fights. Even the exploration is rather about finding awesome player built structures, then exploring all the 2 level of temples ( what is fine in the first 2 days, but no joy there if you get some proper gear ).
This Game completely crushes me >,< I was always bad at platformers, but this is crazy -__-. Often times I die, before getting enough Money to improve anything. anyone got tips how to survive this thing, while being pretty bad at it? (Normally I can just Zerg through those games, but this doesn't seem to be possible here)
I'm aware; I did watch the video. However, if you didn't notice, he didn't actually attempt to rebind them. He only noted that there was a menu. However, the rebinds only work for the controller support, not the keyboard. I have tested and troubleshooted this extensively.
this game is so much fun, I can't put it down. Blood armor isn't overpowered if you have a full set. It reduces your overall health by an insane amount the more you stack pieces.
What should be possible wasd movement. Left click attack, right click class based secondary, Middle click for magic, space for jumps, q and e can still dash as a movement extension. Functional, convenient, and doesn't force me to take an awkward sitting position for extended periods of gaming.
A bit late to the party with this video as youtube decided to not show it in my feed for some reason. kinda suprised that you never brought up the music as I found it very good
Seriously, get this game now! It's freaking awesome. 95 lives and 16+ hours later I, lvl 128, was able to go trough all the semibosses and the main boss, the ending is brilliant, it really is. I still haven't got half of all the loot and runes. Now I'm playing it as Legacy+ mode, in the first rooms there's lvl90 enemies. Having lots of fun, lots of replay potential in this title. :)
Ah, never tried rebinding things to the mouse. I've never really needed to change the keyboard controls, I guess beating Boshy has conditioned me to using arrow keys in a platformer.
I'm glad you did this one. I wanted to see if it was as good as I'd hoped and sadly, I don't think it is...but it's still worth buying. I built it up a bit much in my own head.
The keyboard controls work perfectly for me. There's only three action buttons, after all. There's the attack, the magic, and the special buttons. Then four directional buttons and jump. Not hard to comfortably bind eight keys.
i don't know if i would call it metroidvaniask, it doesn't have the "get better gear to get to somewhere new" aspect, wich was an importent part of metroid
Sadly the monitor I use is something of an endangered species. I've got a square monitor, rather than a widescreen one, and I don't know what to do to adjust this game's aspect ratio to fit my monitor. As it is, it's got black bars on the top and bottom, which is disappointing.
To anyone watching this now to judge whether to buy it. When he says the combat is simple, he is telling the truth. HOWEVER, as you move on with the game, as you run into more powerful enemies and start applying runes to your armor, the combat becomes a lot more fast paced and exact. Every Dash and Double jump acts in concert with your combat.
TB mentioned the idea of a game, that when you die, you get really angry, and say like "I'm never playing this game again!" but after like an hour or less, you play it again. I get this feeling with a flash game - Realm of the Mad God... I die a lot, i get mad, but i still play. And these games really have that attraction to them...
After watching this I picked up a copy from steam, I've had a very large amount of fun and it keeps me coming back. A co-op aspect that would allow dungeon crawling and constant death with friends!

Here from 2018, due to tomorrow's release of this game on the switch... I salute you TB, you are missed
Take this how you will from me, I normally can't stand these kinds of games.. but I'm addicted to this one. It's always "okay, one more go, I can do a little bit better"
Getting upgrades really helps, too. There's even one that lets you keep some of your money when you enter the castle.
Did any of you beat it?
dwarfie24 I beat it 13 times
In all honesty this is one of the most addictive games I've played in a long time , worth every penny! keeps making you want to try again straight after you die due to simple mistakes, wish more people did lets plays of it, might try one myself :P
R.I.P. You'll be missed. The world is definitely worse off without you.
I am very addicted to this game.
lady henrietta had a wonderful beard !
This is currently discounted 20% on the PS4, is it worth grabbing? I'm kind of scared of doing so in case it becomes free at some point.
Watching Rogue Legacy 2 streams vs. UA-cam algorithm = One sad but thankful teardrop.
Hi from 2022 TB,
Still miss you, and I treasure every time the algorithm brings you back into my feed.
close to the end of the video i was in the process of buying this game lol
I must be in a minority, I love super meat boy type difficulty over dark souls type.
Definatly.
Its more like Megaman than Transylvania, amazing game anyway. I let it untouchable on steam for a month. Starting played it and cant stop for two days
did you enable just pressing down for those controls? It's also in the options. That way just pressing down will do those moves, so you only need to press one button at a time. Made it easier for me.
This game is so awesome. July 29th for PS4!
What's the game TB is talking about as an alternative at around 14:48? Can't quite understand because of the accent.
Dark souls
Thanks for the recommendation. Going to miss these in depth reviews.
I've had my eye on this game for a bit and I'm glad you ended up giving a first impression on it. Turns out (for me) you were right, it's a lot harder with just a keyboard. Went out and bought a 360 controller, and wow, what a difference.

Love the videos, keep up the good work TB, and hats off to your crew behind the scenes too. ;)
What's the final decision... Should i get it?
Fun game so yes lol
Man thid game is just totally fcking awesome! So the journal entrys you find are really funny to read and the story line is also very epic feelin if you get into it. it's 3€ on steam right now also! The feeling you get when you finally defeated a boss is so awesome. And it's that you'll always find something more and more interesting and more mysterious is also very cool..
Ok thanks! :) I got it and i'm about to play it.
hey tb, could you PLEASE put an annotation on the video saying you CAN go back to the upgrade tree after getting equipment? just going left where the arrow points "to manor".
For those still playing the game, you can actually change the name of your knights in this game.
When I play the game on the 360 controller the controller lags real hard. Any fixes??
Suuuch a good game, haven't played in awhile but definitely going to again.
My favorite heir was Sir Useless, named like that, because I sucked using archmages for a while. Although he redeemed himself and then there was a Sir Useless II

I love TB, but I'm 20+hrs on this game and the amount of false information was really disappointing.
I'm not gonna say if you were right or wrong, for obvious reasons, but I'm super glad to not be the only person who noticed this.
Just getting I to his stuff (yes yes, I know), but man. He's not actually correct about much of what he says.

I wish him, as well as his family and friends eternal peace, I just have been wanting to say this for a while, and I don't feel like it's "too soon bro" anymore.
Someone please help me! I've bought both bloodchestplate and cape (those with vampirism) but when I try to equip them nothing happens! D:
Here in 2020, I missed this voice.
i'm sorry if i am wrong but isn't a medroidvania a title that let's you backtrack with new equipment like the earlier zelda titles? that would mean that this game is not a medroidvania but maybe i'm just getting my gametypes mixed
i miss biscuit....
And if i like grand strategies, for example? Or Bioware-like RPGs?
Or squad based shooters?
2019.. RIP TB
Haven't really gotten to that point yet, and I'm level 100 with everything except beastiality unlocked (In terms of the Manor) though I have yet to kill the Boss of Maya or The Darkness.

Are you going to do a first impression of the new dnd remake TB?.
Is anyone having crashing issues? Any fixes?
I sent the crash logs to them already but I want to play now :(
Did they rebalance Doomvases at some point? I feel like they're always pretty easy for me to dispatch just by waiting for them to complete the big, slow loop that they make back to the character.
Finished it in approx 25 hrs, it's fun to start with by by the time you get up to the last area (the dungeon), you're simply grinding to get better gear and the difficulty isn't there anymore as you one hit everything and tank what does manage to hit you.
Does a standard 360 gamepad work for this and how do I enable it?
?
Where do you take that from? Currently my Paladin deals 154 Damage and my Hokage 269. That is about 75% more, which is easily outweighted by high Critchance and Critdamage.
They work for keyboard last time I checked, not mouse though. I changed my spell key from W to F.
PC? Prolly gonna buy it. Dont have a mouse where i am, would that be a problem?
They do all look fairly similar. It seems like there was a base design for warrior which they added extra elements to for other classes (paladin gets shield, archmage gets a beard, etc)
He doesn't take request ( also there is a video on his twitch stream, if you really cant wait for a highlight video)
That's "A Shell in the Pit" in the background, the music! Nice one!
15;58 nice lead-up to the battle with the ninja thinger... "there you go - have some scythes.." -- oh yeah?! have some SHURIKEN! XD
and @VanguardFencer thx for taking the time to explain, guys
When do you think that the Steam Summer Sale will start?
but can you kill a fire breathing dragon and after cut it's scales off to make dragon armor and then become a different classes and then go raiding in dungeons for phat lootz in minecraft? if not the game isnt for me

Bad luck. I've read that desc, and gotten the... Savos, was it called? subboss on other portrait rooms.
"Enable Quickdrop"
This sets the keyboard to stab down on down rather than "stab+down". This is immensely helpful. To each his own on controller though.

It can be those if you want it to be. I'm sure there are mods out there that build cities or cars or even guns for you.
Do you have to pay for your gear every life or do you get the stuff from the blacksmith that you purchased last life?
I tried playing RL with keyboard (spent many hours actually and even wrote a script to rebind the keys according to my liking). Overall that was a very frustrating experience. Guess I have to get a controller after all.
the journals will help you identify which place to go first (forest maya or dungeon)
I can absolutely imagine someone starting a new game once familiar with the game and winning with his first dude, upon learning how to defeat all enemies and with dogged persistence in the face of trap rooms. Because some people are crazy like that.
hey I tried the demo. but my fps is very, very bad. the game is unplayeble... is the steam version any different?
By the way, if you turn on or force vsync, the portraits (and later, the guys with the purple spikey balls on chains) will spin less quickly and be more manageable.

Absolutely amazing music, yet, at the same time really good game to play with music muted and a podcast running in the background.
I'm aware; I did watch the video. However, if you didn't notice, he didn't actually attempt to rebind them. He only noted that there was a menu. However, the rebinds only work for the controller support, not the keyboard. I have tested and troubleshooted this extensively.
No that is a crystal orb she has in front of her :P. She is the person you buy runes from and is behind the black smith.
this game is so much fun, I can't put it down.
Blood armor isn't overpowered if you have a full set. It reduces your overall health by an insane amount the more you stack pieces.
TB can you do another video when you are farther along in the game?
What should be possible wasd movement. Left click attack, right click class based secondary, Middle click for magic, space for jumps, q and e can still dash as a movement extension. Functional, convenient, and doesn't force me to take an awkward sitting position for extended periods of gaming.

This game is amazing, its so fun and its really sweet when you can clear everything with one hero, so satisfying to be able to get to that point
Sadly the monitor I use is something of an endangered species. I've got a square monitor, rather than a widescreen one, and I don't know what to do to adjust this game's aspect ratio to fit my monitor. As it is, it's got black bars on the top and bottom, which is disappointing.
Link? I'd like to see someone do it on the first char
Maybe because the rooms and floors are always different when you do a new run
To anyone watching this now to judge whether to buy it. When he says the combat is simple, he is telling the truth. HOWEVER, as you move on with the game, as you run into more powerful enemies and start applying runes to your armor, the combat becomes a lot more fast paced and exact.
Oh that first surprise room with the giant ghosts was great.
After watching this I picked up a copy from steam, I've had a very large amount of fun and it keeps me coming back. A co-op aspect that would allow dungeon crawling and constant death with friends!
actually i've never gotten a description out of the tower defense portrait. Everything else has a description when you press a button whilst standing beneath the picture. The three times I encountered the tower defense portrait, it turned into a great doomtrait. Just my observations, cousin. :D
You can also put your own names into the game totalbiscuit which you might enjoy. Its always funny seeing friends names with certain traits :D
What's the name of the outro music?
According to Wikipedia:
"Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive tasks during video games."
So it really is the best way to describe the respawning trash. Thing is: it's interesting the first time when you are getting through them. Once you figure it out, having to do exactly the same thing over and over again so you can actually get to an interesting and challenging segment is, well, grind. What other word could you use to describe it?
Like the look of this, it does seem fun+hard without being frustrating. Wonder if there will be a mac version.
Do you have the weight allowance to carry them? And you realise it's on kill you get health right? Not on swing?
I'd love to hear your opinion on this again TB once you have invested some proper time into this title, seems really good to me
this channel used to be totalhalibut or something like that if i remember correctly his sc2 channel is totalbiscuit
this game is maddening but surprisingly addictive. Reminds me of the NES game ghosts N' Goblins (in terms of difficulty)
What's happening with the graphics card competition TB? Is it still going ahead?
Who does the music on the outro?
Watch out. There are multiple definitions of grinding, based on what genre the game is. It is a dungeon crawler RPG, so Ryan is right about the grinding. The fact that it is punishing you for not being ideally equipped or ready for the encounters (re-spawning enemies) is a deathly level of difficulty, but letting you know where the monsters are, so you can back and try different mechanics. It all boils down to personal preference. For me, I usually don't enjoy going back to fight enemies again.
the sphax hd texture pack or something like that and some mods make it look cool
