Sujatha was to Shankar what Neeraj Vohra was to Priyadarshan's Hindi adaptations. Hence the decline in quality following these writers' passing. Their contributions cannot be ignored.

I have this doubt from the beginning not because of Shankar but because of hype. We have seen many telugu movies over hyped but later they flopped very badly
Same thoughts here, it would have been better if Shankar revived Aparichit (Anniyan) for a part 2 instead of taking Indian & absolutely butchering the Senapathy character. In the 1996 movie, he acts closer to that age and only a few action scenes towards the end might seem over the top & he had certain mannerisms of being a silent and deadly character. But in Indian 2 they turned this 100+ year old character into a full blown action hero doing all kinds of crazy stunts. I literally didn't feel like seeing the same character at all.

I think Indian 3 also supposed to be in Indian 2. Because of the producers , they did 2 parts. And Kamal Hassan probably signed Indian 2 because Indian 3 portions were interesting but probably is disappointed that the interesting part is in Indian 3.
Writer Sujatha died suddenly while writing dialogues & Screenplay for Enthiran (Robot). Hence you can see the dramatic tonal shift in the movie from first half to second. Second is all over the place because of writing.

In all seriousness I actually felt the Indian 3 glimpse was wayyyy better than the whole Indian 2 movie. Hard to believe myself but I still have hope for Indian 3
I still remember I watched Hindustani in theaters as a kid ,the double role by kamal hassan and the news surrounding how the makeup used to depict senapati was one of its kind, the music of rahman with hits like latka laga diya which was the costliest music vid of that time and telephone dhun mein still seems amazing till this date despite its not so usual lyrics, then the story and that 2 finger torsion move by senapati to injure the perpetrators was one of its kind , but the icing was his son being the corrupt one and he himself kills him at the end of the movie and then giving a call later to let know that he survived the crash 🔥... I never thought that a sequel was needed and if it did come , it should have been grandiose rather than relying on the fact that the third part should be more anticipated 😮 Well the might may fail , never expected Shankar to but well here we are.
I know there is consistency in random songs in Shankar movies but the grandness of it all with them being random models doing a calendar shoot just threw me off lol
Exactly Shankar is actually famous or infamous for such larger than life songs in almost all of his movies for reference just check two movies Aparichit and Jeans and maybe also Shivaji for the mind boggling use of funds to create such a spectacle of a song. when Indian 1 came, it had a purpose. It was one of a kind. Nobody expected an old man to be the protagonist. The whole concept was new and it clicked. Now, Indian 2 came BECAUSE INDIAN 1 CLICKED. Otherwise Shankar would have worked on more sensible topics. The very idea of cashing on an accepted story, shows that you are lazy to innovate. This is the case with most of the sequels in world cinema. Only exceptions is movies like Bahubali where one single story is divided into multiple individual movies. I’m glad Indian 2 failed. At least this will remind film makers to not be lazy and innovate when it comes to story
Those who havent watch it yet, plz dont!! I slept thru the 2nd half quite uncomfortably in the theatre chair next to the speakers blaring loud. As to siddharth, his acting like the goody 2 shoes both in his movies and in real life is getting too dramatic even for his sake.

The director of Jawan - Atlee was an assistant of Shankar and uses the vigilante trope that Shankar uses in many of his movies that's why it feels similar. Shankar's Gentlemen, Indian, Mudalvan, Apparachit have the same vigilante theme
I couldn't buy the basic premise of the movie at all, the children betraying their parents is so out there that it would never work as a premise. It was far worse than the zero gravity scene. No sane person would think to betray their parents and lose the peace of their own homes, but the movie expects us to believe that these four friends along with new generation would easily give up the peace of their own homes to watch India prosper? It needed a hard hitting premise where only one person listens to indian and not many did, and that single person's effort would change the minds of people who are skeptical, that would have far more interesting route that what we got. Second disappointment from a seasoned director after lokesh's leo.

They should have finished it as one movie as planned. Splitting it into two parts due to budget issues and stretching the first part to 3 hours was a mistake. They mentioned part 3 is already completed. If the same screenplay pattern continues there's no hope for Indian 3 either.
Sounds like pure propaganda to me. Almost got religio-political vibes the producers wanted to feed the masses. I think Shankar got pressurized politically to make the sequel in this way to uphold the political statements the state government projects. I am not saying this is an absolute reason for this terribly made movie. Just think of the nightmares Shankar had seen after watching the final edits.
More because of people involved in it. Kamal Haasan and Siddharth are there. So, cannot expect a truly patriotic piece from them. At present, they would actually reject a truly patriotic movie.

Kamal Hassan and Mammootty with Indian 2 and turbo reminding us that they could make bad movies too.
But turbo was entertaining as compared to Indian 2 .

I still remember I watched Hindustani in theaters as a kid ,the double role by kamal hassan and the news surrounding how the makeup used to depict senapati was one of its kind, the music of rahman with hits like latka laga diya which was the costliest music vid of that time and telephone dhun mein still seems amazing till this date despite its not so usual lyrics, then the story and that 2 finger torsion move by senapati to injure the perpetrators was one of its kind , but the icing was his son being the corrupt one and he himself kills him at the end of the movie and then giving a call later to let know that he survived the crash 🔥...
I never thought that a sequel was needed and if it did come , it should have been grandiose rather than relying on the fact that the third part should be more anticipated 😮

Why did Kamal sir need so much prosthetics after 28 years ? ... I think the audience would have forgiven if Senapati looked different but a lot more naturally old . Instead , they made him look like an old anthropomorphic iguana .
when Indian 1 came, it had a purpose. It was one of a kind. Nobody expected an old man to be the protagonist. The whole concept was new and it clicked.
Now, Indian 2 came BECAUSE INDIAN 1 CLICKED.
Otherwise Shankar would have worked on more sensible topics.
The very idea of cashing on an accepted story, shows that you are lazy to innovate.
This is the case with most of the sequels in world cinema. Only exceptions is movies like Bahubali where one single story is divided into multiple individual movies.

I couldn't buy the basic premise of the movie at all, the children betraying their parents is so out there that it would never work as a premise. It was far worse than the zero gravity scene. No sane person would think to betray their parents and lose the peace of their own homes, but the movie expects us to believe that these four friends along with new generation would easily give up the peace of their own homes to watch India prosper?
It needed a hard hitting premise where only one person listens to indian and not many did, and that single person's effort would change the minds of people who are skeptical, that would have far more interesting route that what we got.

This was expected, It looked bad from the trailers! loved the first indian movie it had a heart.
Sounds like pure propaganda to me. Almost got religio-political vibes the producers wanted to feed the masses. I think Shankar got pressurized politically to make the sequel in this way to uphold the political statements the state government projects. I am not saying this is an absolute reason for this terribly made movie. Just think of the nightmares Shankar had seen after watching the final edits.
