Initially, it took me a bit to get into this take. Way too used to the original. However, after 3-4 times hearing it, this version is so smooth, and more than a little jazz influenced. Lovin’ it!
Thank you Dave for mentioning the VHS audio and picture quality to set the mood. This was my childhood too. Such a good arrangement by Layne and love your reaction Sir! Happy Father’s Day!!
I said it on the actual vid, and am gonna say it here too - Those ultra-low D notes from Geoff - it baffles me how anyone can reach down there into that demonically low range without the help of electronic 'tinkering'!
I think this is the most absorbed ive seen you in a song! While i really like the original i absolutely love this one! I love that the guys all got to sing "solos" and yet the song was weaving through them or maybe they were weaving through the song.😅
Yes, it's all 80s. I think this is AWESOME! Also, this song came out on TV show Miami Vice. JNone is paying homage to that with his jacket with t-shirt underneath and chain around neck. It SCREAMS Miami Vice. From what I remember, that song played during speed boat, drug running scene with the drum solo breakdown. Iconic. The car, I understand, belongs tp Laynes dad. Appears to nod to Miami Vice too with all cool cars, new and old, they had on show. I hope Phil Collins gets to see this somehow. If you or anybody knows how to send it to him, that would be so great. He deserves to hear his masterpiece done by this group. Thank you Dave for your reaction. I've been waiting on you! Have great day! ❤❤🎉🎉😊
They really captured the feel of the 80's here. They're so good at that, lol. Such an amazing update on a classic! Also, I didn't notice your shirt until you mentioned it. It has a little more purple tint on camera, but either way, it's a great color on you! ❤
I wait just to see your facial reactions. Your love of music shows in your face and whenever Geoff hits low notes, I just can't help but laugh with your facial expression. Love you Dave.
Go watch the Miami Vice clip with this song -- the two guys driving the Ferrari at night, set on getting to a deadly confrontation --- classic classic. Then you'll see what Viceplay was reaching for. A dark song for a dark show...
They had me with the 80s nostalgia and then they made this a freakin bop. I grew up with the song but I've never felt the need to dance to it. Voiceplay are vocal wizards
Oofta. I'm old enough that the album this song came off of was one of the very first I owned as a kid. And when I say album, I mean LP vinyl. Probably purchased from the Columbia record of the month club that every kid fell for at that time. Moving on from that terrifying aside, VoicePlay have absolutely modernized this classic, while still respecting the original; something they always do so well. You can always trust these guys to deliver the notes we expect, while also surprising us with vocal tricks we never saw coming, while always maintaining that inimitable VoicePlay sound. VoicePlay is for sure an S tier vocal group; no one else really compares.
Jnone's outfit, the car... Am I the only one having Miami Vice flashbacks. After all this song was playing during a very special moment on the show. 🌴🌴🩴🩴🏖️🏖️
Always look forward to your reactions...so much enthusiasm! I have always loved this song. It is from the 80's. I lived in Germany then and travelled all over Europe whilst living there. I bought the cd 3 times because I would arrive at my destination and not have my favorite music. The song was perfection when Phil Collins put it out. It is now stratospheric as done by VP. Truly epic!
When JNone started stomping, I thought he was getting ready to lead them in a frat step/stomp routine.... which would be cool to see VoicePlay pull off!
Loved the reaction, thank you! All 5 of them SHINED in this, just love it!! The percussion in this song has always been my favorite and Layne BROUGHT IT!
Awesome reaction as always Dave. This song brings back alot of memories. My mom, 2 sisters and I went to see David Copperfield in person. It was amazing. After the show he had a meet and greet. When we told him he was her favorite performer and it was her birthday he gave mom a huge hug and wished her a happy birthday. This was the main song he played that year. This was filmed behind the Oviedo Mall where Pattycake Productions is located in Orlando. The car belongs to Layne's dad who had it since 1972. I don't think J does cadence because he's singing with the band... Northwest Passage Naval Band.
Ahh, 1990 - the year my firstborn, my daughter, entered this world. You're just a baby, Dave. 😉 Love your reaction. 🙂 The original came out early 80's (81, I think?) so I'm very familiar with it yet never really liked the song that much. I really wanted to because it was a member of Genesis singing it and I liked them but I never thought of it as anything other than "ok". This version however - I love it!! For me it's really elevated the song and made it into something that I will listen to a lot.
I was still in diapers when this came out, so it was a huge part of my early childhood. I would sing along on the radio or MTV before I knew how to read, let alone read music. It was a song that I felt was "kinda scary" by its darker feel, but so powerful when those drums came in. (And at least it didn't terrify me like the video to "Land of Confusion"... that was nightmare fuel!)
Great reaction, as always, Dave! I can always count on you to bring a smile to my face. (As if this song didn't.... LOL....) I have to admit, I was always kind of on the fence with this song. Didn't dislike it, but wasn't a huge fan --- until now! VoicePlay once again made a believer out of me. Good stuff all the way around.
@@whatitdodave Your volume when you speak was fine, the youtube video of voiceplay was low. I saw you had the volume at around 50-60% where you usually have it at 80%
Dear Sir I love your channel and content but I must disagree with you on something! There is no way that both you and I can both be in the sweet spot of age as I'm 46 and you're 32, I am most definitely in the sweet spot a gen X'er who grew up with VH1, MTV(when they actually played music videos) and saw the advent of VHS tapes, CD's, cell phones, and video games. LOL I'm kidding Great reaction as always!!!!
I was just entering my teens when this song came out in 1981 (I looked up the year), and it was in heavy rotation on the radio. That killed my love for it. BUT this was a fantastic cover- an excellent song for acapella- more resonant for me than the original. As always Dave, you were a joy to watch.
When Layne hit the Iconic drum solo......your face lit up, like a kid on Christmas morning....so happy.....so pleased..so happy.....>^^
This song came out a few years after i was born so i grew up hearing it.....and truly I LOVE this so much more now!!!
Gosh, this does take me back....
One of my favourite songs from 1981.
Layne KILLED that iconic drum solo!
They're fabulous
This is one of my favourite Voiceplay covers... absolute class. 🔥💕.
Initially, it took me a bit to get into this take. Way too used to the original. However, after 3-4 times hearing it, this version is so smooth, and more than a little jazz influenced. Lovin’ it!

I love Layne's voice. It was so nice hearing it so prominent in this one...but...but...THE DRUM SOLO! I love this cover so much! Great reaction!
Layne going hi was a surprise... Then I remember he's Layne...
VP have taken us back to the 80s. And it's great! I'm a lot older than you , remember the 80s very well and this sonsg is iconic.
I said it on the actual vid, and am gonna say it here too - Those ultra-low D notes from Geoff - it baffles me how anyone can reach down there into that demonically low range without the help of electronic 'tinkering'!
Another just loved it.
great job from the guys and great reaction
❤🏴
Hey Dave
The song is from 1981, from the album Face Value
Love your reactions.
Greetings from Germany
Rick

While i really like the original i absolutely love this one! I love that the guys all got to sing "solos" and yet the song was weaving through them or maybe they were weaving through the song.😅
This is amazing! I just keep going back to VP's channel to hear it! ❤
You are honestly one of my favorite reaction channels. Your energy is stellar!!

Excellent call
Great reaction, as always!!
That drum solo......Holy raining cats. Layne my boi. You went full out beast mode. ::Whew::

Geoff Castellucci the human sub woofer
As a child of the 80s this made me so very very happy! I'm 10 years older than you my friend, I remember VHS and Betamax! Lol we going Wayyy Back 😂
In The Air Tonight” was the first single from Phil Collins' debut solo album "Face Value" in 1981.@genesis 'BBC Broadcasts' collection

I’ve been waiting for you to do the reaction 😊
I think at this point, the Navy's intentionally giving JNone more time off duty JUST so he can create some more magic with VoicePlay! 😂
You know the whole branch is watching too haha.
Your joy is always so infectious, keeps me coming back.

The song that sold a million bass cannons in the 80's done to perfection! Man I miss 12" paper cones and hardwood cabinets.
Great reaction, Dave. Always a pleasure hearing how excited you get reacting to our boys!!! 😊
Jnone's outfit, the car...
Am I the only one having Miami Vice flashbacks. After all this song was playing during a very special moment on the show. 🌴🌴🩴🩴🏖️🏖️

I had the hardest time trying to not sing along 😂 always loved this song
Hey Dave, Divide is redoing his song for All Might. Also, you said a lot about this song that I didn't notice. Great Work man. All I got to say
Hopefully Jnone will be back with VP after his service is complete
I think all he has been doing with them let’s us know .
Eyyyyy. I'm 32 years old as well! 😂
Awesome reaction as always Dave.

So many layers - so much talent constantly evolving and LOVED your smile and reaction. You point out things that I sometimes miss, thank you.
This arrangement! ❤ It give this song so much more depth and complexity than the original. And I do believe Cesar would let me drown😬
Who else felt the Michael Jackson's Ghost with those stomps....
Voiceplay just get better and better! Was waiting on ya Dave, late to party. Lol
I always look forward to your reactions! You arecawesome. VoicePlay is epic as usual!!!

I cracked up at "No stranger to you and me" cause of Family Guy
Do you hear a hint of Gangster Paradise at the start of this. This cover is great!
Cesar is apparently doing the solo at the beginning as well as the part you noticed.
Great reaction, as always, Dave! I can always count on you to bring a smile to my face. (As if this song didn't.... LOL....) I have to admit, I was always kind of on the fence with this song. I was born in 1981
Video volume was a tad low.
Hmm. I’m listening to it on my phone and it seems loud enough. 🤔
Sounds good to me 🤷🏻♀️

Dave, just say 30s, I'm 39 thats still Millenial lol haha, anything get gen z out
it's nowhere as good as they could do. Hearing them for the first time. Wrong person with wromg parts. Great call on listening
I was hoping you'd cover this. You're one of my top five reacters. When I see a new VP/HF/PTX video come out, I'm like, "Has Dave covered it yet?"
