Why Government Policy Will Kill the UK Motorcycle Market

  • How the ICE Ban policy will end motorcycling.
The government has already said that it will end the sale of new “non zero tailpipe emission cars and vans”. The decision for motorcycles is not yet confirmed. Recently the headlines told us that the ban would be delayed from 2030 till 2035 for cars. But still there is no decision made for motorcycles.
There is still time to stop this ruinous policy. This is no time for complacency.
Don’t be hoodwinked by claims of technology neutrality or pipedreams of the sector being recognised as a future transport solution. Actions speak louder than words. Actions already taken for cars, and planned for motorcycles will kill motorcycling in the UK unless we can stop the ICE Ban.
We are literally in the fight to prevent the end of motorcycling in the UK. If you have any interest or passion for the future of UK motorcycling, join MAG now at mag-uk.org/
We won’t roll over, will you?

The lunatics have taken over the asylum... Motorcycles should be encouraged, not punished. Anyone switched on will know that despite "zero tailpipe emissions" , which is only really relevant in highly built up areas like central London, EVs are horrific for the environment to produce, ridiculously expensive to buy and insure, and close to useless for anyone who isn't commuting to a single place of work less than 50 miles or so from home.
The people up top making this stuff up are surely well aware of this. It's hard not to read it as an intentional attack on personal freedom, mobility and small businesses disguised as "for the environment".

I can only imagine that these restriction areas will get bigger and more strict, until using an ICE vehicle becomes as silly as we see steam engines as now 😅

Absolutely agree and it's not only the suppression of our right to freedom of movement and to own personal transport that is being discouraged or just plain inflicted upon us by using the seemingly unchallengeable (yet highly flawed and questionable) justification of 'saving the planet'.. Amongst many other things it's the suppression of Agriculture and food production, the demonising of eating meat and heating our homes too.. None of which will trouble Sunak, Starmer and their ilk for a second of course as they sit down to their beef or lamb dinner in their well lit and heated homes, all funded by the UK taxpayer.. The EV lobby is nothing more than a highly politicised gravy-train that they'll never want to get off..

I looked at the zero DSR/X with fast charging I can recharge to 80% within 2 hours if I use fast charge (no data on home charging, but I probably couldn't anyway as I live in a flat) A minimum 50% charging time, for every hour ridden... So pretty much, I'd need to add at least 2 hours a week to my commute time just to recharge the bike. As it is I leave at 7am and get home for 6pm, where am I supposed to find these extra 2 hours? When I would normally be sleeping or eating my evening meal? In addition to that, the majority of my electric at home comes from Fossil Fuel power stations with a little bit of wind/solar (if it's sunny/windy), so even if I could find a way to charge it at home, I'd be plugging it into the grid overnight that definitely wouldn't be solar energy. All for a bike with a hardwired battery and no data on how many charging cycles that, that battery can actually be useful for, so how long will I actually get to use the bike for before the lithium is beyond use and ends up in landfill?
(I think that the reason they only give time to 80% charged is because the last 20% takes just as long, but they don't like to mention that)

Make sure you buy a new bike before the ban and if you can afford it buy two and keep one registered but in dry storage. This will ensure at least forty to fifty years of riding a petrol bike. If petrol becomes unavailable you will be able to distill enough spirit to run a bike on as you'll only need a few gallons a month. If they outright ban existing petrol bikes then emigrate to Russia. If you're young emigrate to Russia anyway - funny how places, governments and freedom change. Quite simply there are too many people and obviously too many engines. There's a simple equation which says the more people there are, technically, the smaller share of the pie and the more polution.

I believe the environmental concerns are valid, particularly in large conurbations and the negative impact on people’s health from high levels of pollutants. No, for me there is no soul in electric. Motorcycling is about the noise, the petrol, the CCE, four stroke or two stroke; twin cylinders or four cylinders.
As I’ve argued before, motorcycling can be and should be part of the solution. Bikers should have unrestricted access to inner cities as in Glasgow for example. They take up less space, cause less pollution and probably reduce depression levels all at the same time! I would certainly support mass motorcycle protests to get attention and cause a bit of disruption. Motorcyclists are of no interest to government, they are in fact invisible and when have we heard that before

I can see the big players bailing in the not too distant future. We see no significant offerings from the mainstream manufacturers (apart from Harley) which is a good indication they're not going to bother. They'll just keep making hay while the sun shines knowing full well that the vast majority of enthusiasts are not going to bother with battery bikes. With only a few exceptions, for the large makers, bikes make up a tiny percentage of their overall sales. If BMW and Honda for example, stopped making bikes, it would make no difference to them in the long term. In fact investing in the technology, factory refits and tooling would likely cost them more than just dissolving their production of bikes completely. If in doubt, ask yourself, if garden shed operations like zero can offer full size electric bikes, where are the ones from Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha Suzuki et all. Conspicuous by their absence aren't they. I think we're on the cusp of the end of bikes as we know them all together. Only small utility around town bikes will survive in electric form.

It would be very easy for any government to not ban ICE bikes without losing too much face if they kept driving (the pun!) for cleaner cars.
Needs to be proportionate or people will fight it, despite some benefit.
Meanwhile lets celebrate Kawasaki for trying EV and hydrogen... about time we saw some actual development rather than just fresh paint every year.

This Is the first post I have seen on this subject presented by you, MAG. I am unaware of any previous post on this subject. But hey!! You have at last woken up. Stu Fillingham has warned us about this, 2years ago. I also believe he has contacted you,MAG with regard to this. I’m pleased you made this post although very late to the game. Please get up earlier in the morning. Keep up and keep us informed.

I'm guessing, Malcolm, that you are not a MAG Member or you would know that MAG was the first organisation to start campaigning against the EV-only agenda. I personally submitted the following resolutions to the MAG Conference in 2019, and got them all passed with only some small amendments:
MAG rejects and condemns HM Government’s diktat forbidding the sale and registration in the UK of internal combustion powered (ICP) private vehicles from 2040 or any other date.
MAG believes that choice in personal transport is an essential element of a free and non-elitist society and opposes any and all measures that restrict have the effect of restricting car and/or motorcycle use to any form or elite.
MAG rejects as inefficient, unaffordable, unworkable and highly detrimental to the UK economy and populace, the idea that sufficient charging points can be installed as to allow the rapid recharging of an electric vehicle fleet in any way comparable to the UK’s current fleet of ICP private vehicles.
MAG supports the improvement and extension of public transport systems and calls for investment in electric railway, tram and trolley-bus systems and services so as to encourage a voluntary reduction in the use of all private vehicles.
MAG opposes the use of self-driving vehicles on public roads believing that they will never be sufficiently safe and as such will be an unnecessary and unacceptable hazard to all road users, in particular motorcyclists. MAG further condemns the use of self-driving vehicles as being yet another means by which the less academically qualified are able to earn a living, resulting in the yet greater concentration of wealth in fewer hands.
Proposer: Neil F. Liversidge, MAG Member 23660
Seconded: Rob Matthews MAG Member 112834
In 2021 I got myself re-elected as National Chairman, to lead the fight against this crap. I'm the guy that has supplied Stuart Fillingham with information for his videos. I initiated the co-operation with the ABD and together we've formed Transport Reality to campaign against the EV-only agenda.
When I announced my run for Chairman in 2021, a bunch of former BMF 'luminaries' (luminaries in their own minds at least) had a little bitch-fest on Facebook to the effect that I and MAG were wasting our time and that we should support the EV agenda. The BMF has given up. We haven't. We never will.
So, Malcolm, I'll look forward to hearing from MAG Central that you've jopined us to do your bit in this fight. Join here: mag-uk.org/

Brown car guy conducted his pollution test levels in London. Take a look at his results, very interesting. It may inspire MAG to conduct similar testing around motorcycle meeting ares as a comparison. Just a thought.

It's not anything to do with pollution in reality though. During Covid, the 'elite' loved the empty roads, the faster progress, the emptier airports. So they'll keep making using any private vehicle hard until we all stop 'getting in their way'.

The only people buying new 125cc bikes are driving schools.
I honestly haven't meet a single person here in the UK, spending thousands on a new bike and barely being able to ride.
I spend £500 on my 125cc and £2200 on my 1000cc bike - I might in a year or two will consider a "newer" bike but definitely won't go out and buy an electric bike.
btw. did anyone ever picked up on the motorcycle ban in Spain, in a park!!!
According to them its emissions and noise 🙄

considering how many companies have ceased EV production due to lithium battery spontaneous combustion, and the lack of charging points, never mind the fact that insurers are now bumping up premiums to cover the now well documented fires, there's the other problem of shipping these cars and their batteries, shipping lines are banning electric cars, not to mention that the foremost producer of these batteries is china, with three quarters of the world's production of lithium batteries, batteries that only have a five or so year life span.
then there's the hideous depreciation of theses electric vehicles that makes them worth nothing to scrap, as the major component, the chassis just happens to be part of the battery.
if you're lucky enough to have one that doesn't go up in smoke within five years, you'll need a new battery installed, at only sixty odd thousand pounds, which necessitates the complete dismantling of the car. which poses the problem of registration of the newly rebatteried car, as the chassis, as explained above, is essentially the battery. then there's the cost of the labour to install them.
the british government is completely ignorant of this, or they would now be axing 'net zero' nonsense, as some european countries allready have.
this is the most shortsighted policy based on false assertions. the climate grift has been going on since the '70s, blowing hot and cold depending on the weather.
I was a mag member from 1988 until I left britain.
still proud to have drawn the 20th anniversary magna carta freedom rally patch and enamel and the *northish* london mag tshirt that people outside london thought was a made up group despite buying it lol
in other news, france is implementing an m.o.t. for motorcycles this year, that no testing stations exist for, much less competent mechanics to do the testing.
my fellow countrymen are the worst spanner monkeys I have yet encountered, my pal tony of galea camchain services, wickford, does busman's holidays to the toulouse area each year to work on expat's bikes, despite there being an industrial estate full of bike workshops, so I don't see how they can enforce it.

A sensible government would be trying to get more people to own small capacity bikes, putting pressure on manufacturers to increase mpg massively. Under 400 cc with at least 70 mpg would see people commuting on such machines except perhaps for a few weeks in the dead of winter. That would reduce total emissions inc manufacture by a much greater amount than the fallacy of electric vehicles.

A smart government would be encouraging companies to allow their staff to work form home where possible. This will take cars and bikes off the road. The technology exists and is reliable enough. You only have to look at the reduction in traffic during school holidays

rishi sunak seems hell bent on removing transportation of any kind in britain.
all those diesel trains, all those international flights at the world's busiest airport, all those heavy goods vehicles.
he must have found a way to digest london clay too, as there will be no more farming and no more imports of food from elsewhere.
once this is achieved, where does he expect taxes to come from? because if people can't go to work and cant eat , he'll have a job..

I’ve a Euro 4 bike at the moment with all the emissions restrictions removed and will be hanging onto it for a long time to come as it’s getting more difficult to counteract these restrictions. It’s loud and smelly and I love it 😄.
Besides, it would probably take my ten years to even come close to the emissions an airplane dumps in one flight. Straight into the atmosphere with no chance of being dissipated.
