- The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans is a short story featuring the exploits of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, not to mention Mycroft Holmes and Inspector Lestrade. It appears in the volume of stories published in 1917 entitled 'His Last Bow', written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
There's a murder been committed, a pea-souper swirls around London from Woolwich Arsenal to Gloucester Road tube, Mycroft is on his way to Baker Street and much else besides. Holmes considers the problem... will he ever get to finish his monograph on early music?
It is read by Greg Wagland for Magpie Audio.

I am so incredibly fussy when it comes to book narrations. It's unintentional. It severely limits my options. I'm so easily distracted, irritated & frustrated by those who aren't up to scratch. Greg is one of a very small group. I can happily be aware of his talented voices & yet be fully able to concentrate without any effort on the story. Greg is a gift & a treat to my ears. 💜
Agree. Who else do you like? My ears are sensitive voices and I just can't even listen to most narrators...
Graeme Malcolm. Absolutely love anything he narrates
Sherlock voice a little too fussy
@@emilykrahn3185 Simon Stanhope at Bitesized Audio and Jasper L'Estrange at Encrypted are among my other favourites.
@@4555165 Greg's interpretation of Sherlock is outstanding imho. Just how I imagine Holmes to sound.
These audio books ARE FABULOUS! Who needs video? What an incredible voice...
I go to sleep listening to these but my only problem is that it takes me about a week to complete one story due to falling asleep so quickly.
Me too!!!!! Lol
It's the best for falling asleep. Just been listening during breakfast to catch up on the part I always miss
I enjoy all of these readings but, imo, The Bruce Partington Plans and The Priory School are best for drifting off to sleep.
So do I
I do the same thing. 😂😂😂
It is now 5 or so years since I first became acquainted with this series, and I still listen to it every day.. Indeed, I have listened to some of these Holmes audio presentations perhaps 100 times and still find them absorbing. Although the content is quite familiar, they never cease to amuse and inform. I very often drift off to sleep with one story and awake to another. They are highly valued.
It's how I recorded them. I too drifted off to sleep while narrating them and woke narrating the next... Auto pilot? Thanks for your kind comment J7116R

One of the best stories .
Listening to these audiobooks have been a Godsend. I just had surgery. They have so helped with boredom. Watching TV just is not my thing!
So glad they helped, Deborah. All the best with your recovery.

Excellent book, by an excellent author, read by an excellent narrator!
I read this short story as a teenager back in Pakistan. A wonderful case. Loved it at that time and love it now. Wonderful narration.
I see 77 Librivox readers have given the thumbs down. I cannot imagine anyone else doing it. These are a sheer delight to listen to.
I can!
Within 24 hours, the enemy has struck again! There's clearly no pleasing some.
I see 172 thumb down. Lol
I can't listen to any libravox recordings, they are always monotone.
The Librivox readings of Mark Twain novels are excellent.
I love it! The description of Mycroft beginning at 4:43 is the description of a search engine! In a story from about 1908!
Really love your audios of Holmes.
You are such a treasure. Many thanks for all your hard work, much appreciated ❤️
My pleasure!
I love the way the auditor does all the voices of each character!! It’s a treat to fall asleep to these recordings !! I see him sitting in a wingback chair , with steam rising from his teacup, and reading off his Kindle the stories!!
You've got me - although the steam's rising from the Kindle.
Really? I always pictured him reading an actual book, old school
Old schooler here
... with a light rain on the windows, a crackling fire in the background, and a wolf hound at his feet. ☺️
A beautiful image.
Wonderful, Greg. Have missed your Holmes. 👏🍀💃
Absolutely splendid reading! It’s delightful, a real treat to listen to you. Thank you!
Thank you Gregg, well read🤩👍😍
One of the best narrators I've ever heard. I can't t listen to Stephen Fry narrating Sherlock Holmes or any book. I'm so glad I've discovered this guy. Excellent.
This is adequate, but Frye is livelier.
Stephen Fry is brilliant playing Jeeves xx
Excellent performance! Love these! Thank you!
The story took me immensely. Being a Pole interested in Naval matters and well up in English I decided to translate the story into Polish. Though an amateur, I managed my task quite well. Of course most interesting in the story was Mycroft Holmes with his great brain; to me it is a sort of vision of PERSONAL COMPUTER, that head of Mycroft with all its capacities. 😊👍♍
Yes - he’s a right brain box.
Maybe the writer was fortelling the advent of a modern invention ... "Microsoft" ?
How beautifully that class of people spoke in the nineteenth century.
It was an art.
Your reading voice is so amazing and multifaceted! So relaxing, crisp-n-clear, but also entertaining with character changes. My dream is that you narrate hundreds/thousands more books! Thank you so much for your work!
Kind of you to say so, Andi. Many thanks!
mm
So many degrees of yes
Second this dream.
You continue to amaze me in the number of different voices you are able to produce and reproduce repeatedly! My personal question is what great voice is your natural voice, or is your family exposed to all of them? If so, it could be most amusing to live in your house.😄
Same
It's an amazing exhilaration for me that Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, Watson, and Lestrade would be in the same room together. The Bruce-Partington Plans sure has a unique air about it.
It's a good'un.
what a voice! and reading is superb
Thanks Greg for narrating this story, it's one of my favourites.
Thanks Jo!
"When all other contingencies fail, whatever remains however improbable must be the Truth...." oh! this line😌
Occam's Razor.
Love your readings ❤️
what a wonderful narrator! thank you
Your narration has completely spoiled me for any other who might read from Sherlock Holmes Adventures. No one else’s voice matches the characters like Greg Wagland. Mycroft was a remarkable voice but so believable. Thank you your gift means I have listened to these stories over and over again. X
Another fine story. Good narrator!
I'll tell him ;-)
I’ve listened to this several times. I’ve enjoyed it every time.
Gotta love Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s style of character naming. It’s either unique, strange names like Sherlock, Mycroft, Cadogan... or... plain old JAMES 😂
The two namesakes of of author, the only Arthurs we have ever seen, have been the 10 year old abducted Lord Saltire and this very story's Cadogan-West, who proved innthe end to be...
Jabaez! Red Headed League and in another story.
These stories are so engaging. Cudos to Doyle and Waglund
Thanks, Joe.
Awesome, thank you! I like the fact that you don't make Watson sound subservient and obsessive about his friend, as some narrators do.
Glad you enjoyed it, Victoria! Yes, Watson is his own man.
I agree. Those who present Watson as a bumbling mumbling hero worshipper are completely missing Watson's very real contribution to the detection. Again and again Watson provides the context and the fine details. He asks relevant questions. Like Hastings, he is the ordinary mind that provides the steel for the flint to spark off. Holmes' attitude is so rarified that he needs Watson to ground him.
Then too, Watson is a handy man in a scrap, quick with his fists and armed with this trusty revolve. He gets between Holmes and harm. He's also very strong, able to pinion and restrain malefactors.
Just a total pleasure to listen to perfect diction just just perfect thank you
I downloaded your entire catalog and my family enjoyed 2 weeks a bedtime stories.
Glad you like them!
I have loved Sherlock Holmes for many years and know many many audiobook versions. Yours are by far my favourites, I just love your voice! Thank you for another case, I know them by heart but never get tired of listening to you!!!!
Thank you Andrea. Much appreciated.
Another fantastic reading, thank you so much!
Thank you Greg, been listening for years and even repeated they are still the greatest entertainment on UA-cam
You're right, I listen to the same stories over and over and never fail to enjoy.
I agree. I’ve tried to find other audiobooks to listen to but I always find myself back listening to Greg!
Thank you good Sir, much appreciated to find a new S.H. audiobook. Gratefully, your devoted fans.
Nice one!
Love this particular story. It has everything! And Mycroft! "Alas, I am a COUCH POTATO GENIUS!" So Watson never says what he was doing for 3 days besides reading newspapers. Watching Holmes do his hobbies, probably. 😆
He was being the mascot, lol. That's what he does. Holmes career always took precedence over his medical practice. He was probably making small talk, trying to keep Holmes in a good mood and on an even keel. And then when Holmes is occupied, he always seems to be obsessed with reading several newspapers in their entirety everyday. You notice Holmes never reads the paper. He always asks Watson. Watson even reads articles aloud to Holmes. He can't be bothered. Watson is like when Victorian ladies used to hire companions. This way you always have a friend around guaranteed to do whatever you want, basically wait on you, and keep you entertained. Except Watson doesn't get paid. He's like Robin in Batman and Robin.
@@wmnoffaith1 Huh, I never saw their relationship that way. Good interpretation!
@@wmnoffaith1 IMHO in the last stage of their cooperation, when they live together again and Watson gives up his medical practice, he gets paid by Holmes. They split his money for solving the cases. Unfortunately, I don't know how I reached this conclusion, it was just my impression from some of the latest stories.
Yes! It's been so long since we got new Sherlock Material. Thank you.
A sturdy tweed? Well, Rome wasn't built...
Always listen to your narrations, even if I've read the story before, Thank you
Cheers Anthony. Good to hear from you.
Same here...I couldn't resist even if I wanted to 🎻
This and The Red Headed League are my personal favourites
I think my favourite is The Red Headed League for the comedy aspect. Have to say I can't remember very much about the B-P Plans.
I feel that Greg Wagland could read the telephone directory, and leave me spelllbound!!
Nice of you to say so!
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio You're a gifted storyteller
@@THEPAGEBURNER1979 Oh my gosh! You're right. I haven't had a phone book delivered to the house in about 5 years now. A kid would look at a phone book and be amazed. But then they'd be like, "You mean I have to look? I have to know the alphabet?"
Tell me when he is reading one so that I don’t miss it,
I hope this does not bother you, but I use your your stories as a sedative. Bad tinnitus keeps me awake, but your voice allows me to sleep beautifully.
Feels like you're living the story.
Keep up this 'OH SO AWESOME' work, Mr Greg!
Keeping me hooked till the very end! ^0^
Thanks, will do, Manya!
Love your voice so much! I have been listening to your audiobooks ever since I started the books of Sherlock Holmes!
Thanks Coly - thanks for listening.

Thank you very much, my friend. As I listen I feel my intellect stir up and I been to work in my garage.
The detail when describing Mycroft is amazing
Oooh its a good day for me when you post something new!! Looking forward to listening later on :)

Honestly, no one compares to your readings!!
Doing the happy dance! Thank you❤️

Excellent as usual ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
More more more!! Please please please!!
Your narration of this particular book is exactly what I imagine Watson would sound like! Do you by any chance do any stage acting or voice overs for other actors? Just curious because you certainly have the skill’s to! :)
For video the Granada series is the only one for me, but for audio only, this is the best choice. Mr. Wagland is very talented.
Thank you, Mary.
Great narration really enjoy your style
Thanks Mr Wolf!
LOL Mycroft runs on rails! :D
Sherlock Holmes and London Underground - heaven!
Good recording of the book
Thank you brother. You have offered a true escape from the mundane. Greetings from Erlangen.

Cheers Erlangen brother, Charles. Glad you enjoyed it/escaped into it for a while.
Wonderful !
Glad you liked it!
It's delightful to know my fellow listeners prop their head on a pillow, and succumb to the studies of Holmes........
Realy excellent way of explaining this.
Your voice is awesome. I feel like I'm sitting across from Dr Watson listening to his story.
Tigers, etc are beautiful and amazing creatures!
And they're stripey too! I do like a sea otter mind you.
These are great! Thanks!
Glad you like them, Mr S!

Excellent...
Thanks a lot, Earl.
Ooh, one of my favourite stories. High stakes, politics, espionage!
