- The Adventure of the Illustrious Client is one of the twelve stories published as The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in June 1927. This particular story was first published in the US in Collier's in November 1924, and in The Strand Magazine in February March 1925 in the UK.
It reminds me of The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton, which you might like to listen to on this channel.
It is read by Greg Wagland.

Fantastic work Mr Wagland. You've got me through two years of fighting cancer. Helped me through long nights in hospital and sleepless ones at home. Massive thanks all the way from Australia!
Cheers, Gavin. Glad I helped you pass the time! All the best!!!
Hope you are well Gavin
Hope you’re well now
I tracked him down and as of August 21, 2021 he's still posting and pressing on.
I found these recordings in the same unfortunate circumstances (dealing with cancer). Hope you are well now. I’ve just retired and travelling Greece with my wife. Hope life is good for you too!
Greg Wagland! Thank you. Your readings are a huge comfort to those of us who live alone and need to hear a comforting and friendly voice.
Thank you
How can anyone dislike these stories?! I get so excited when a new one comes out. Thank you for my night time stories
Pleasure, Spencer!
Heyo
I agree. They are excellent
Wagland does a terrific job narrating the stories. It's that Doyle's stories are uneven. Some are well constructed and literarily well executed. Others are either thin or ridiculously improbable or just not very interesting or arresting. Some are just silly. Wagland does bring them all to life with more flair than some of them deserve but his contribution is terrific and he has surely proved himself to be Doyle's finest interpreter.
It’s amazing to me how these stand the test of time. Many thanks again for providing hours of entertainment.
Absolutely excellent rendition sir. Thank you for what you have done with your readings here. A true service to the public. You really bring the stories to life.
I exceptionally loved how you read this one, and I also recently found out i can't listen to anyone else reading anymore...
Another beautiful reading from a loyal friend and a chivalrous gentleman. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you kindly, Mr Berry!
Good night Mr Wagland, thanks in advance for another wonderful story and reading
Good night and thanks for listening, David!
Greg I hope you realise what a gift you have given with these recordings, thank you!
Been here since the beginning of Sherlock Holmes audiobooks. Have loved them ever since. thank you!
Thanks for sticking around and supporting me! Cheers LDB!
I search through other story channels from time to time. Yet I always find myself going back to hanging out with my familiar "friend" Greg. Listening to your narration of one of Sherlock's case files, or adventures, or The Beetle, for the fourth, ninth, and ,even perhaps fourteenth time!! Your work has become a source of stability for me during a season of painand instability. You're truly part of my recovery! That's a special gift.
Glad you've enjoyed them and they've been useful. Cheers Terri and all the best!
Mr wangland i came across your audios only in this quarantine period. It has been such an enriching experience. I was never a sherlock Holmes fan but your magical voice has made me go head over heels both with Holmes and ofcourse your beautiful and outstanding narration. If ever I would imagine Holmes and Dr Watson to be existent,, they would certainly have your voice.
Love and respect from India.
I still wonder why people would sleep through these audiobooks. I myself would never! I become so attentive and immersed with each and everyone of these readings. And it's always just a joy! Thank you always for your hard work Mr. Greg Wagland sir & stay safe~
You posted this five minutes ago and already two people dislike it. You must have some spiteful enemies, Mr. Wagland.. jealous of your excellent story-telling. Some rivals with sub-par voices I should wager!
Good job as ever. Must be an awful burden to be consistently top notch!
I know I am not the only one who appreciates your wordsmithery, but it is I who doffs my hat to you here and now!
It actually offends me. What's not to like?
Sherlock could deduce who they are.
I totally agree! I don't understand why anyone would dislike Mr. Wagland's work other than professional sour grapes.
It's the Sour Grapes Gang!
Sherlock Holmes Stories Magpie Audio I think that Sour Grape Gang has a lot of tattoos and noisey motorcycles! I never!!
Thankyou, Mr. Wagland for your excellent audiobook narrations. It helps me sleep in these times of uncertainty. It's hard maintaining sleep schedule, and your narrations help me relax. Please make more I Digress videos. Those are very enjoyable. These serious ones are also really good as always.
Thanks for listening, Saurav. Glad you like 'em and I hope to do a few more I Digress vids soon(ish). Cheers.
Whenever I see a new upload, I feel like a kid on Christmas Day. Thank you very much for your superb reading !!!
You are so welcome, Jiu Chan. Glad you like them!

Sir, from the deepest part of my heart I thank you.
Thank you for listening, Eun Zhang.
I always save these for when I'm in the perfect mood in a comfortable chair and basically with my smoking jacket and brandy ( in my head). Then I just sit back and I am transported by the most beautiful voice. Thank you as always Greg. 🌹🌹🌹
Very kind of you to say so, Arlene! You've just put the idea of a brandy (and a cigar) into my head! Aaaaaaaghghgh!!
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio 😅😅😅
It's elementary my dear Watson.

Umad?
Appreciate that, Susan. Very kind!
Do say more, Nicholas!
R u mad bruh? U sound mad lmao
Nicholas well that’s one way to make a fool of yourself!
These beautifully narrated stories mellow me out as I search for sleep.
Thank you Mr. Wagland!
My pleasure, Ashwin!
Thank you for a new recording, Mr. Wagland. I have listened to all of your SH multiple times. I am now going to curl up with The Illustrious Client and have a lovely nap. Thank you!
Enjoy your nap, K!!!
beautifully read - your emphasis on "mellow voice" and "lavender spats" is a very artistic touch
Spats. They should be in every gentleman's wardrobe. Not sure about the best colour though.
Lavender...in September?
It's the changing voice that breaks the story up so well. The characters are in the room but I don't have to turn my head or take a cab. The ex-lovers voice with its venom - just great!
Rejoice! A tale from the Wagman! Thank you once again good sir.
Thank you kindly, Sunstone. Helps you keep those knives nice and sharp!
"I know who the client is!"
Me: yes?!
"it is-"
Me: yes??!!!
Sherlock holds a hand up to stop Watson from revealing the name

@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Paul M.M. Cooper narrating the Fall of Civilisations series and Paul Thornley narrating the Jack Nightingale audiobooks are a close 2nd and 3rd to your wonderful self my friend :D
May we all live our entire lives, such that we *never* make an enemy like Kitty Winter...
Indeed!!!
As you sow so you reap.
Acid attacks are horrific and I am lucky that they are uncommon where I live. I have had a chemistry teacher who had his arm burned by mistake. He always rolled up his sleeve to show each class why PPE is important- he had been wearing his and his injuries weren’t life threatening but he had a beaker explode and had acid and glass over his left forearm. It took a few months to heal and he has some impressive scarring
These stories are very addictive!!! Thank you, Kind Sir!
Glad you like them, Aaron!
Thanks so much for this collection. Your work is much appreciated.
