- A REMOTE & ROMANTIC ENGLISH GINGERBREAD COTTAGE// Happy Wednesday everyone, Have you ever dreamt of experiencing off grid life in a dreamy English cottage? We stumbled upon Hex Cottage, a little house off grid located in Suffolk some years ago and it has been on our list to stay for a number of years. It has no electricity, the cottage is heated by an Esse woodburner and is located in the gorgeous English countryside. We stayed there for 3 nights and loved every single second there. It's minimalistic interior is absolutely perfect and is so calming that you simply don't want to leave. Hex Cottage - you are simply wonderful! Kirsten & Joerg xx

I was thinking the same thing! How wonderful is it when people move to another country & really appreciate its history & all that it has to offer. They make me want to visit all these places!
Kirsten and Jeorg videos are always a pleasure But are certain shires that honestly don't need advertise even from any official British authority Especially Devon coast tries very hard to maintain the not so well know villages quiet Southwold f.e. during the summer is over populated Still beautiful though! Social media has made everything extremely easy and accessible nowdays

Talking about the candles makes me think of that lovely scene in Cranford where the ladies were burning only 1 candle. They called it “elegant economy” 😊 the minute they got a knock on the door they rushed to light more candles! Wouldn’t want people to think they were stingy😂

As American Revolutionary era living historians for the National Park System here in America, we often live in the 1700's log cabins for the weekend that we are there. Getting back in touch with the ways of old touches your soul. I'm thrilled you got to experience this! Not many people will take this venture but it is truly amazing!

I must say, Kirsten, that your choice of music is impeccable. The combination of your and Joerg's video, your narration, and the music recreates a most appealing refuge at the end of a full day.
I agree with you Kirsten that this cottage is profoundly soothing. We live in a modern world saturated by loud colourful advertising and television and fashion and patterns and glaring designs, to the degree we have all become used to such harsh visual overstimulus. A walk in nature reveals very muted colours and only a few and all of these harmonise and are not demanding to the mind to be in. So this cottage is like a time travel back to an age of less aggressive chemical colours. The mustard walls looked aglow by evening candlelight. Plus it can be stressful to be in a place with too many delicate fussy objects and immaculate floors and walls, you end up not wanting to relax lest you make it messy. Romance is not always about frilly fripparies. Romance can be practical and earthy, as in Lady Chatterley's Lover.
Yes, it's the perfect retreat to feed one's soul. It's such an amazing place.

It looks like a painting by a 17th century Dutch master, and the way you made and filmed making breakfast (around minute 13) looks just like a Vermeer with the pouring of the milk, blue plates, etc. Stunning 😍

Youngsters would probably think they wouldn't survive three whole days without electricity. But, as you showed us, it's possible, you just have to adjust to it. And candlelight brings such a cozy, calming and romantic atmosphere to the rooms which makes it ideal for couples in love. Thank you, again, for taking us along.
I know, right! To be fair we were baffled when the sommelier told us that sometimes people stay at the cottage but have no idea how to make a fire etc. and freeze, it's so strange.
@@KirstenJoerg We are so spoiled, aren't we? 😄 We have all the commodities of the 21st century yet when we are left without electricity (or Heaven forbid without cell phone) for just several hours we (well, some of us) haven't got a clue what to do. I remember, when I was little, and my sister and I were staying over the weekend at my grandparents we would play cards by candle light when we were left without electricity during the storm. Or granny would tell us stories. And we would have the best of times. Nowadays, it seems people don't have any imagination.
@@VionaBee I‘m totally with you! I‘m actually glad I grew up without a mobile phone or a computer. We just enjoyed playing outside.
@@KirstenJoerg Me too. I got my first phone when I was in a college. And like you, all my childhood I spent outside, playing. Those were the good old, carefree days.
Sort of like camping. Sometimes people still do have camps in the Adirondacks of NYS anyway. Am sure other places, of coure. It is very nice to do this , but it does take longer to do it all, but it is well worth it in the end.It was second nature even in, at least my grandparents day. But it is not easy for us to live this way all the tine maybe now. We are all quite adaptable and bet we could if able! You have such a nice change of pace. Joerg and Kirsten are responsible people, but they must be careful with candles and fires the people theey rent to, as it can e a problem and am sure they do choose well.
You both are BEAMING! I could feel the Peace, Calm & Bliss that this Beautiful home emitted ~

Dear Kirsten and Joerg, I first discovered your channel when I was home alone recovering from the “virus “ and your videos brought me much comfort and although I am a healthy person, today I came home from work with a psoas muscle out of wack ….felt I needed to watch something uplifting and this video was it. Dear Kirsten and Joerg...another wonderful romantic escape to Englands rural gems. Thank you for allowing me to participate in your holiday experiences...The way you are presenting your experiences...with passion and deep joy and stunning expertise in filming and picking out the most interesting features of your holiday house and surrounding countryside is entertaining and heartwarming at the same time. Oh, my Lord... That is the most beautiful cottage I have ever seen. In fact it's the ONLY cottage I've ever seen that hasn't been ruined by modernisation, or overdecorating. How I'd love to live there, with passive income. Heaven.
I liked the gentle texture of the walls. The soft mushroom colors. I don't mean tan or beige. A dappled color.
Many years ago, I worked in a wine shop. I truly loved helping customers discover new wines. That was one of my favorite jobs.
As a child, I spent summers at my grandparents' cabin. They didn't get electricity until I was eight. I loved cooking over the open fire and collecting twigs for kindling. It was a wonderful time. Thank you for taking us along for a lovely weekend!

This was DIVINE!!! My own soul is so filled with some kind of historical longings when I see such things. I’m not even sure what that means? Does it mean.. I have lived another life(?)…like this(?)
Or maybe I lived in a castle(?).
Or maybe it’s just my Scottish/English blood that speaks to me when I see places like this.
I will say… as an ex hairdresser, lol, I can so relate to the conveniences of modern day. Oh dear, I might get lost trying to adjust and being without my blow dryer, curling iron etc etc. . But…
maybe it’s just being spoiled too. 😊
