M1 Air will probably end up being the best laptop of all time. Nothing before it is has brought so many buying factors into one product. More powerful than a i9, faster than a 3080, more efficient than a lenovo, more quite than a MacBook pro, as light, thin but way more sturdy compared to the LG gram, resale value is ridiculous. Everything I listed could easily be 5,000$ but its only 800$? and its sexy rocking that Gold color. Steve Jobs vision has finally been realized.
according to geekbench the single core performance is similar with the m1, apple increased the multi cores. thats why there wasnt much difference in export times. the real differences would be in timeline playback or pro res videos. i honestly think its not worth it especially from the m1 , until when theres an improvement in single core performance in maybe m2 or next.
If your M1 Max MacBook Pro only has 2TB SSD storage then it is NOT fully speced out. It is fully speced with 8TB SSD storage. I have same config as you but I wasn’t paying for that way too expensive $2,200 8TB SSD upgrade. I only needed the cheaper $400 2TB SSD upgrade. If I need more storage than I can use my WD NAS or Apple iCloud or even slower portable external drives.

Correction (4:02): the export time on M1 MAX is 42% compared to M1, which means it's 1/42% = 2.38 times faster, or 138% speedup

Base air for $800 is a fantastic value. Most people dont need pro. If you have to ask if you meed you, you probably dont.
