My father has a bottle of Licor 43 that has been sitting collecting dust for ages. I might convince him to let me use it for the Vanilla Bourbon
I really like you sharing the historical roots of spirits and cocktails!
The flip is right up my alley with the bourbon.
That vintage coupe glass is gorgeous.
For anyone concerned about the egg you can pasteurize it by heating it to 160f, then dropping into an ice bath. This doesn't cook the egg but will remove any chance of salmonella
You can buy pasteurised egg white too 😊
Great ideas, thank you so much. The Vanilla Bourbon Flip will become a staple in my household!
Cool vid, they are delicious. One thing I learned from watching Anthony Bourdain was that if you crack your egg on a a flat surface instead of an edge, you won’t have to deal with pieces of shell in your food/ drink.
That Bourbon flip was so good. It was a great hit around here. The lemon drop Martini was definitely not for my wife or I. I found out we really don't like limoncello. I think I'm going to be "forgetting" my bottle at my friend's house next time we get together to make cocktails, lol. Oh well. But now I can't wait for the cold weather. I'm going be busting out those Bourbon flips whenever we have company this winter.
1 out of 2 is alright haha!
never had liqour 43. thanks for sharing and cheers
Lemon Drop for me, but my go-to dessert cocktail is a brandy Alexander 😎
That vanilla bourbon flip looks amazing!
Both of those drinks look so good. Gonna make em this weekend. Thank you.
A very informative presentation. I can tell both cocktails are delicious. I will definitely try these. Thank you!!! 😊
I've wanted to try a flip cocktail for a while - this looks like the perfect choice. Plus I don't differentiate by seasons, so I'll drink it in the 100 degree hot summer!
Will definitely try the lemon drop martini, as my region in the central US is currently getting triple digit temperatures. When the weather gets cooler, the Brandy Alexander is my general go to, but this bourbon flip definitely sounds great!
All the ingredients exist where I live (Norway) and I'm definitely trying these! I loooove a Brandy Flip, so this sounds perfect for me :D
Yay I hope you enjoy!
That Vanilla bourbon flip sounds like it's right up my alley. Might save this for when it's a little colder though 😂
Lemon Drop Martini is a definite try. I personally like the lemony flavours and anything that is sweet.
Fun and cool episode.
I love that the clock says 5 o'clock 🕒
Haha someone noticed!
@@BehindtheBar Quitting Time & Happy Hour! Cheers! 🍻🍹🥃🍸
I’ve made a sherry flip with a nice nutty oloroso - it’s a really tasty dessert drink. Reminded me of a “hard” milkshake in texture, just a bit more sophisticated!
I haven't had a lemon drop martini in ages. Forgot how yummy and refreshing they are. The flip looks amazing- never heard of it before. Will have to make. Thanks!!! Also: LOVE YOUR TATTOOS!!!!!
If I'm going to have a dessert cocktail, I would normally go with an amaretto sour. But both of these sound fantastic.
Cool, two Cocktails and I have all the ingredients! :) The second one reminds me of one of my summer dessert coktail favorite: Sgroppino
Great cocktail!
Love your accent. 😍
You always out do yourself Cara! Thanks again! Let me head to the Bar!!
I make my own limoncello, so I think I'll have to make myself one of these Lemon Drop bad boys for "dessert" tonight!!
Pretty easy to find a good Limoncello here in Italy :P
Gonna try the Lemon Drop Martini veeeery soon!
I just made my homemade Limoncello from Amalfi lemons. I will give this a try. Till now I made my lemon drop using lemon juice, this looks like a nice use of the limoncello while keeping the cocktail nice and tart and lemony. Thanks a lot!
Thinking of doing the same, how did it turn out?
@@nicolasmistela8651 well it's nice. Though I expected it to be more lemony. It is also quite sweet.
At 3:05 onwards you can start seeing the bottle of Archie Rose in the background start swaying with you.
Haha shaking too vigorously!
The Lemon Drop Martini sounds best to me, love lemon so will give that a try at the weekend.
I made your French Martini from last week, we both liked that a lot. (So much we had two!) Stuck in the 80s that’s us, drinking gin with our grannies! 😉
Love it!
Ah - a bourbon omelet - just what I was looking for:)
😂
My usual dessert cocktails are a Sidecar or a Dominicana, but the Bourbon-Vanilla Flip definitely sounds like a contender. Raw egg doesn't freak me out...my standard eggnog recipe is an uncooked version. On the other hand, since you're letting your egg yolk/sugar mixture sit with a generous amount of booze for an hour, the chances of any little microcritters being in any state to cause harm is pretty remote. But at least they denatured happy, right?
I don't have Licor 43 at the moment, but I'll sub it for Licor Beirão for a Portuguese version, and it's gonna be awesome! Thanks!
I like to start with a liquid appetizer and end with a liquid dessert 😉
My man!
You had me at Bourbon
Did I hear bourbon? Tell me more 🥰😂.
Watching this video while sipping on some Maker's Mark
yammy!)
I love me a Brandy Flip, so yeah, I think a Bourbon Flip (or Burbon if you're following the recipe at 7:52 😂) sounds like a really good idea for a chilly night... Think this is on the menu for the weekend lol. Plus, there aren't nearly enough recipes out there for Licor 43
I noticed the clock is at 1700 (5pm).
Tried a whole egg cocktail once when I made what I think is called a golden fizz. It uh, didn't go well. This one seems nice though! Any recommendations for a replacement fortbhe Licor 43? I don't have the living-in-america problem, but I do live at the arse-end of Africa, which makes obscure Italian liquors a tricky find. Assuming it's obscure. I've got no idea.
In my experience, any vanilla liqueur will work. It may not get the subtleties, but it will get the major notes.
It is reasonably widely available here in Australia but I have no idea if that would be the same in Africa! But absolutely, another vanilla liqueur or you could even make a vanilla sugar syrup and just use a bit less!
Ahah Limoncello it's not that obscure! It's what is offered you at the end of a meal in basically every Sothern Italy restaurant :)
Far out, when I heard about the sponsor I thought there was finally a decent place for getting spirits online in Australia, but nope it's just for America. Guess I'm stuck with Nicks wine merchants
Yeah sorry just the US! I like Nick’s though, are you not a fan?
Can you make the first drink with aqua fiba instead of egg… I only ask because some of my friends are queasy about stuff like that and I would like to make it for them
Faba
If it was just an egg white cocktail like a Whiskey Sour or a Clover Club I'd say yes. But...the flip relies on the richness of the yolk as well as the frothiness of the white. In this case I'd opine that it's egg or nuthin'.
Yeah unfortunate the yolk is what gives the creamy texture (as opposed to just being frothy), I haven’t seen a proper replacement for that. You could just do it Alexander style and use cream!
@@BehindtheBar can confirm. I have an issue with raw eggs and the “Alexander technique” is always my go-to solution
Hey Cara, do you have any go-to store to buy liquor in Melbourne ? Dan Murphy's and BWS are the obvious choice, given they are everywhere, but maybe somewhere with better price or better choices of booze.
I tend to go with Nick’s Wine Merchants, they easily have the best range of an independent store, good tasting notes and I’ve always had good customer service from them. Casa de Vinos is incredible for whisky but a lot more niche. Only Bitters/The Bitters Lab is good for bitters (obviously!) and cocktail books etc.
@@BehindtheBar thanks for the reply, I'll make sure to visit them next time I visit Melbourne. Cheers!
Why exactly did you shake the lemon drop martini?
You know, that’s a fair comment. I’ve always done it shaken I think because all the citrus elements make me think of it as a shaken drink but it could definitely be stirred! It is pretty viscous because of the multiple liqueurs so shaking definitely doesn’t thin it out too much.
Congrats on your engagement , ala ring of lefthand
Haha spotted, thanks!
@@BehindtheBar You can hear the sound of millions of hearts cracking right now… 😄😄😄
Could Galliano replace the Licor 43?
Definitely!
Yay! Now I can use it for something other than Yellow Birds. Not that I mind Yellow Birds, but I’m definitely not making Harvey Wallbangers! No, M’am!
I wonder what the difference is between Licor 43 and Chartreuse is.
Licor 43 is definitely sweeter with a pronounced vanilla flavour -crowd pleaser - whereas chartreuse is more herbal and a bit more divisive flavour wise haha!
@@BehindtheBar Ah, then not a suitable substitute. Thank you.

Just opinion, the background drapes don't contrast well for these sorts of presentations. The bright colored background from the Bomba videos were a nice contrast. Perhaps a brighter/white drape in the background would look nice? Just an opinion
Noted!
Goes without saying ... says it anyway
Jestes swietna ale za malo pijesz.
I really like you sharing the historical roots of spirits and cocktails!
I think you might have made a ronpope with that first drink.
Definitely not a million miles away although that usually has milk I believe!
