Ive got a specced up M1 Air, 8 Core GPU, 16gb Ram, 1TB SSD. I have no interest in upgrading it at the moment. It does everything I need it to do. It’s a fantastic MacBook.
I was looking to purchase the same model and specs you have as of March 2024. Do you think it is worth it almost four years later coming from a 2014 MacBook Pro?
Thanks so much I’m picking up a MacBook from Best Buy this Friday wanted to make sure which one is best I’m in high school and just needed something easy to carry around that can load my work that’s not my bulky school computer
I think you are right for the base model. Recent benchmarks are indicating that one really needs 16GB to take advantage of the new speeds for the M3 model. The performance is otherwise very similar for the base configs in a variety of scenarios.
The small charger is defnitly a nice thing to have. The bigger versions charge faster, but it's important to note that they also degrade the battery faster. I had that issue with my phone and its first battery because I was using fast charging all the time. When I replaced the battery the guy at the store advised me to charge the phone overnight with a 5w charger, and after 2 years the battery health is still around 96%. Something to keep in mind.
I recommend the Base M1 MBA to every student getting their first laptop. Walmart sells them for $700 as of 04/10/24 I upgraded to the M2 15” MBA 16/1tb and am not looking to upgrade for awhile (5yrs)
More than enough Mac for 90% of the users. I got mine at Costco in Dec. for $750 and I think it's pretty terrific. Got all my favorite apps on there (incl. MS Ofc. for only $30) and I'm good to go! 😁
I bought this to replace an iPad that was fading. I watched the Netflix doc about the Invasion of Wembley as the first thing I did with it. I could not believe the quality of experience. The immersive sound, the picture quality! I was sitting at the kitchen table and my reference is to old 10" iPad. Holy shit! This is a different experience. Screw the iPads. get one of these!
@@treyh.8644 I'd recommend a couple of things. A hub so you can watch on a TV with your HDMI and have a few ports for accessories. Don't get a cheap one. A little better quality unit will hopefully run cooler. I bought a cheap one and you could fry an egg on it. Spend $30 on one and it was far cooler. The other thing is an SSD for external storage. Try to put everything on that except the OS. Something along the lines of the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD.
I own this laptop in the 256gb 16gb ram version. It aged very well. But 8gb ram would be too little for me. I just needed 256gb to install the programs I need. I store the rest on external ssd's, which I can connect to my pc if I am at home. I choose this one over a windows laptop at the time due to the efficiency/battery life. I am sometimes not close to power outlets for a longer time. I do not like apple phones since they are just grossly overpriced. The price difference between a windows laptop and an apple laptop is not as big (unless you upgrade ssd's), as an android phone compared to an iphone. I love the trackpad on the macbook. Every windows laptop I ever used had a bad trackpad. I also believe that the trackpad experience when using gestures is much more optimized when using macos. For me it would be impossible to use windows without a mouse, while on macos it is easy to do so. My main gripe with macbooks (besides the price) is the bad repairability and upgradeability, even though I think other laptops have the same problem.
Hey, I know you mentioned that this is the base model and that you edit 4K video on here. I am considering this model. Should I go higher with ram and storage? I am just a regular user who plans to get back into the digital arts slowly. I also currently own an iMac 2017 with 256gb that is basically empty. I use it as a light weight desktop at home.
@@hoyoungwon I really want to buy a 16gb, 1tb version of this. In your opinion, would it be worth it in today’s time Lifespan wise or would it be more wise to stick with an M2 16gb 512 or M3 16gb 512?
@@hoyoungwon Lol right?!? After thinking about it for a few days though, I think the m1 pro is the better choice. I'm not really a power user but the 16GB of RAM will future proof me, plus the superior speakers and display don't hurt either... Ultimately though, like with any apple product, I really just want people to know I'm better than them....
He’s more comparing it to many windows laptops and ultra books. Which, in comparison, it is much smaller. my 2022 model LG gram ultra book had a charger about two times the size, and the whole point of the laptop was supposed to be to be ultra light 😂
What's your next laptop?
I decide to buy one after watching this video. Thank you very much.
I got my M1 MacBook Air before my masters program in early 2021, and it still runs as if brand new! Definitely the best laptop I have ever purchased!
ur voice is very suited for a tech youtuber btw just got it and its amazing
Haha thank you very much for watching 😁

Yeah your config definitely doesn't need an upgrade for a long long time 😁

Agreed, they made it too good. I had that thought before seeing your video. Love my M1 air.
Same for the M1 pro and Max MacBook Pro it doesn't worth the upgrade to M2

Seeing that you keep your laptop way longer than I do, I recommend going for a bigger storage version if there's a good deal!

I always had the problem with my laptops being very loud when used for longer periods of time. Is this also an issue with this one?

that image is so small you can probably get a bigger video on your iPhone. That charger is not small I have it. No idea where you're coming from.
