I think the white board is excellent. You are truly a fabulous teacher and I am a slow learner not by reason of intelligence but rather by reason of having to do so much in life. I want to thank you from my heart for taking the time and putting forth a dedicated effort to help us learn the Russian language. I will in time learn from you how to speak Russian fluently. I love you as a person and as a teacher. I love you for being Russian as I love all Russians. I love listening to Russian, both as a language and it's beauty in music. Russian music is the best in the world. Although I am an American, I am a naturalized citizen, my family is in Bohemia - Czechoslovakia or now the Czech Republic. I lost the Czech tongue as a young boy, my parents wouldn't keep it up with me, it was forbidden by them as they needed to learn English and wanted me to only speak that tongue. I have always been proud to be Slavic and now I am 65 hoping what I knew will come back but I really like the Russian language. Again, thank you so very much for being there and doing the things you do because one of the things you do bring me comfort and that is that one day I may be able to speak Russian. God's blessings be upon you and I will write you again, God willing. Take good care now my Russian friend !

Спасибо за новый урок, Дарья! You asked about the pronunciation of “often.” Not sure what the dictionary says, but in practice, I think it’s more common with the T silent. However, I know I sometimes pronounce the T. I think it’s a word like “aunt” or “either” - there are two pronunciations that work for the word. (For clarity, I’m not meaning to imply that “aunt” and “either” have silent T’s - of course, they don’t!)
The smaller whiteboard isn’t a bother for me as a student. It means you have to erase more often, and it’s probably more difficult for you to write spontaneously, but it doesn’t change the experience for me as a student.
Thank you for suffering through the heat for us! Very glad to see another lesson. Пока!

I think the small board helps you divide the lesson into smaller chunks which you can focus on one at a time, and which helps us to learn better. I’m taking a Russian class with a teacher who focuses on games (to make us have to be interactive) and it’s fun, but I always come home wanting to learn more grammar. And your class fits the bill.

The difference between the two variations of "often" are more connected to the region of an english speaking country that you are from. Educational level is not as much of a determination of the pronunciation of the word as is the local dialect...both are considered correct so either way would be acceptable so, use the version that you are more comfortable with. Love your lessons, plesae keep making them!!!!

Watching you suffer from the heat, keep the whiteboard from falling, and struggling to write with limited space, made me want to help you somehow. Great lesson! If you are using "often" alone in reply to someone if you are asked a question, sometimes the T is emphasised to make the effect. If one is using often in s sentence for instance "I often go there" etc then the T is not emphasised because the sentence is smoother and faster in speaking.
