i was listening to True last night, when it got to Once Upon a Dream i lost it, i was in tears, I felt like when I listened to Close to the Edge at age of 12 in 1972. Here now a 64 yo man Jon still can move to tears.
Sort of like in between The Ladder and Magnification. I could hear that. I wish Jon was playing more than 3 songs. I'm seeing him next weekend at The Keswick Theater.
Really like this track, I knew I would as soon as I saw the title 😉 I am so pleased that Jon has found these fine musicians, who understand Yes music so well. They really blend well together.
Awesome album... Awesome reaction... Watching you reacting to this album give me a "care" by Marillion moment when i saw in your eyes just how the music was making you feel.... Special moments in music... Mark... 👍
@@JimNewsteadActually I find that In The Presence Of is the sequel to Ritual. Once Upon A Dream is more like the missing third studio track on Keys To Ascension.
Once Upon A Dream is literally a game changing song for those who believe in the magic of music. True is truly the Album of the Year...maybe of the Decade.
@Atom-56 The song is so well crafted. It speaks to me In So many ways , as if Jon is telling me something. Sure alot feel that way about it. Takes me back to a time , when I fell in love with YES....ABWH, actually. When I heard Brother of Mine on radio, my musical taste, (was a big prog fan anyway,) changed. Love these epics, ...like reading a book. Cheers.
Yeah, Jon has the ability to reach right into peoples souls. It’s well known, that he had wanted to be with Yes one last time, so they could do one more epic album, he had gathered his ideas and had made 30 demos for it. He made several attempts, asking Steve Howe if he would do it, but it was all in vain. By chance he hooked up with TBG to tour Yes music, wondering if their creative side, could come up with anything for his demos. Richie Catellano (bass player and producer) picked out some of the material and TBG added to it. Who would have thought, that they could have brought to the table, something as stunningly beautiful as what Wakeman and Howe are capable of……. I think even Jon was blown away with it, he said, that he has nothing left to prove.
Without even seeing part 5 yet, your reaction Jim to part 4 is priceless!!!! I see your admiration , love of the music, the look in your eyes, and almost tearing at times. As they should be! This music , lyrics, sentiments, performance of it , and Jon Anderson is perfect. My feelings exactly too. I love side 4 so much and it is so poignant at thi stage of life for Jon who will be 80 in one month. God bless him and thanks to Band of Geeks too for these masterpieces and a wonderful album. I am 70 and have been a Yes fan since 1971 and this is in the very top tier of an amazing body of work. This has lifted me to a place like 50 years ago and in some ways even higher. I look forward to seeing your review and whether m read of you was correct. Thank you Jim .
Jim, not sure whether it is the vinyl, your equipment or just your general set up, but the sound of True on your show is the best I’ve heard. It is truly a powerful album all round.
How many 79 year old artists are still out there making great music, constructing uplifting lyrics about life, love, spiritualism, the Universe then touring? Only one. Only Jon.
The Stones, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Hackett, Peter Gabriel and that’s just some of the British ones. Some are a couple of years younger, some are a couple of years older…..Rock on, that’s what I say.
@@Atom-56 I would argue that neither McCartney, Stewart, Clapton, Mac or Hackett are producing the same type of music as JA - that was my point - but of course there are lots of similarly aged artists out there and yes, rock on!
Hey Jim! In summary, i believe TRUE is a complete masterpiece! Has my vote for album of the year. Thanks Jim for your incredible reactions. Stellar as always!!!👍⭐️😎
I know fans generally seem to hate Thank God. I even did on first listen, but god damn it's a wonderful song. The more I listen to it the more I love it. I wonder if the thoughts of fans on it will change down the line in the same way they did on Onward.
What wondrous and impenetrable youth this avatar of a human being doth sustain! My excitement at this monumental achievement mounteth, and mirrors that of Close to the Edge, nay, Olias!...even more than Tales...which seems rather sleepy next to the driving energy the outstanding Band Geeks brings to these productions. Who will be the spiritual touchstone and lodestone, once this beautiful man courses his way back home? Wherefrom the medicinal music? Great to share this.
Jon's song "Some are Born" has these lyrics, reused here, sort of: "Towa taya taka tai Some are born to run Some are born to fly It's the essence of the love inbuilt in everyman"
very good reviews, the long songs are fantastic and in general it is a great great album, the spirit of YES is alive... Jon's voice is magical as always, the instruments sound very good, the guitars have that bipolarity that at times you hear to Howe but Rabin interrupts hahaha (personal preference), thanks Jim
Great sonics orchestration production sentiments his voice compositions ethereal at times. It is one of those records i need 2nd 3rd listens some point later to know if i like it or love it though. Agree about the cover Jim. Deserved something maybe a bit more (not that he isnt!!) beautiful...👍....it kind of reminds me if of 1960 mass production album covers in a good way though...
Yeah, this sounds like a missing Yes album in between The Ladder and Magnification, without the 16 minute epic. Once Upon A Dream belongs on Keys To Ascension, 3rd track.
It’s an excellent album, very different to this, with a Flower Kings feel, understandably. Roine seems to “get” Jon in a similar way, though, and it’s well worth a listen :)
The thing that comes through for me is that, even though his creativity has narrowed in terms of the kinds of ideas he employs (for example, when was the last time he leaned into anything in a minor key?), Jon just never seems to run out of ways to construct a song. That said, what I miss in this new music is almost a restriction on the number of different ideas allowed. "Heart of the Sunrise" was probably no more than 10 different themes, riffs, and motifs. "Once Upon a Dream" felt like 50 or so different ideas strung together. I have a feeling Richie wasn't driving that, since this was also the case with the 'Invention of Knowledge' of album. At the end of the day I'm just glad that Jon has an outlet for his songs to be heard. Hopefully there'll be more to come.
Great piece of music, but it's only my second favorite piece on the album; Counties and Countries being #1. I "thought" 'Once Upon A Dream' was going to blow my mind. It didn't.
Some great tracks on this album. Some of it is too schmaltzy for my taste including, (and especially) the last one but that's just my personal take on it. Nevertheless, it's got some spectacularly good moments on it. Great stuff!
Don't like it . Very stupid name for a band and worst cover ever . The music : same mistakes as with AWBH and some other stuff that came out since the 90's .....too much siging goin' on and not enough space so one can breath for some time instead of being bombarded with lyrics continuously. It is a good effort though but with to many references to older stuff and little surprises . The album is like the new Alien movie that harks back to the original and copies a lot , but still leaves you unsatisfied . My opinion.
I love this album...its his best if you know what he is telling you....Thank You Jon for making my day again...Love and Light Joni
Jon lives on. Greatest show on earth

It's the album of the last 20 years and some. Exquisite.
The guitar work resembling Howe's style is wonderful, amazing.
I've heard this album lots recently, and I still pull these kinds of faces as Jon and the Geeks perform this joyous music.
