    This is exactly what I am doing. I finally have all the parts but now need help doing the work. I live in Maine. I have a metal roof and did not want to put a hole through it. My roof is a little steeper and we do get a lot of snow up this way. I am hoping the snow keeps off it enough so that it does not take out the chimney.

      Hey I didn't want a hole in my roof either, that's why I installed it this way. I also live in Maine and winter is here you better get her done! Good luck!

      I have a shingle roof here in Maine. I would worry about the snow ripping the pipe off. (Especially with the winter we've had so far in 2023.) Keep us updated!

      @diywesley2867  Рік тому

      @@avlisk I understand that concern. I built my cabin with a very steep pitched roof 12/12, so there was not been much snow accumulation up there. Glad I did, alot of people had roof damage with that heavy rain that came after that storm. A building at UMaine collapsed.

      @@diywesley2867 My contractor was only comfortable building with shingles, so that's what I got, at 12/12 pitch. Shingles seem to hold the snow, while metal sheds it off. There's still a foot of snow up there, but it hasn't built up ice or come down in an avalanche, so, maybe your design would work for me, too, and maybe having shingles is better. Thanks.

    New sub. Really love your cabin design. It has all of the elements I want to put in mine. (size, rafter roof, high pitch, porch, window locations, etc.) BTW I think it's a class-act to credit the person you got this method from.

    I plan on jerrymandering something similar after getting an estimate of $10,000 to install a wood stove.

      Hello. 10K sounds really high. I think materials on this install were all told probably 1-2K. Make sure you use triple walled pipe, don't cheap out. Many people have fires because they don't correctly install their chimney. Good luck.

    Nice job but really straight pipes through the roof is the best way to install woodstove piping, just saying and likely would have been cheaper and easier.

      Thanks. I do agree, the reason I did it this way is I did not want to worry about the flashing leaking around the chimney.

    Looks great! I finished mine 2 weeks ago in my pole barn. Did you have problems with locking them together? The sections kept spinning on me so I had to use screws to secure them. I also didn't trust the cap, so I used 1" spacers and screws so the wind wouldn't rip it off. Just a little more complicated than I anticipated. Ran into many issues.

    • @diywesley2867
      @diywesley2867  Рік тому

      Hey Pat thank you! Yes I did have some problems locking them together. I found I just had to hold the bottom one really tight to my body and then twist the top one on and keep the bottom one from twisting too. I was able to lock them all this way. My cap also seemed loose a bit. I messed around with it for a long time and eventually just called it good. But I didn't have to put any screws in mine. Yes I agree my install was complicated too, but nice to have wood heat now! Thanks for your comment!

    I thought regs were no more than 45 degrees through the wall? 90 degrees affects the flue gases no?

    • @diywesley2867
      @diywesley2867  Рік тому

      90 degree through the wall is standard in the industry, and you see it everywhere. This kit is sold at Home Depot, it is very common design. Ideal is no angle (straight through the roof) that has the best draft.
      However, I have not had any issues getting a good draft with this design. If you have good dry wood, and know how to properly operate the stove the draft should not be an issue.

    Im a certified chimney inspector ,sweep ,installer this installation would not be acceptable as a code compliant installation in accordance with the manufacturers installation Manual, homemade or fabricated components are not permitted to be installed with chimney that’s been tested only to be installed as per manufactures manual . I would make the customer remove this and replace with a chimney brand that allows to pass over hangs.

    I bought one, and was disappointed with the product, overpriced, not even close to complete, you only get enough pipe to barely get through the wall, Duravent doesn't seem to know that roofs have an overhang, or they are just too cheap to give you the extra foot you need to clear the overhang! So, once you are through the wall you will now have to fabricate everything to get far enough out to clear the overhang that every roof I have ever seen has, unless you want to butcher your roof. At around a hundred and fifty bucks for a two-foot piece you can plan on pushing a thousand bucks for your flu and a bunch of headaches, not to mention the dented-up product once removed from the box.
    Wish I had not purchased this product!
