Can't recommend checking out their documentary We Are X enough, it's like $4 to rent on Amazon. They have a pretty fascinating (and really sad at points) story. If it hasn't been mentioned, the drummer actually went on to become one of the kingpins of the whole music industry in Japan. He's also the one who discovered Dir en grey as an indie band and even played piano on some of their debut songs.
Kurenai is their most known songs. They played it from their first days until nowadays. Each time they were on TV it was mostly this song or Endless rain they played back then.
Yoshiki basically destroyed his neck from head banging while drumming. The Doctors pretty much told him never to drum again as he lost feeling in his arm and he persuaded them to let him go on if he wore a neck brace. Later on he had to have a replacement disc in his neck. Nowadays he also has to wear arm braces and get painkilling injections to play because of tendonitis because of how hard he hits. As you have probably already been told Babymetal use the neck brace as a tribute along with some other references in songs and performance. Loudness were the first Japanese rock band to be successful outside of Japan but X-Japan are probably the most successful and influential band in Japan acknowledged along with Buck-Tick as godfathers of Visual Kei. Funny you mentioned Metallica and the Black album. There is a part in a Loudwire interview where Yoshiki said he wanted to record in a particular studio but Metallica were in there and implied they were not letting anyone else in so he bought the studio.
I've read a few comments about the tributes that Babymetal uses in their performances. That's crazy that this drummer went so far to be able to continue playing. Fuckin' METAL.
@@somethingintheblood6012 It´s maybe something a little more complicated. Yoshiki borns in a family of musicians, he learn to play piano at a very young age, and a tradition in his family was to receive as a birthday gift... a new instrument to learn how to play it. But Yoshiki lost his father at the age of 10 and he never got an answer of "why". Like he says, her mother buy him a drum set so instead of destroy things in anger and frustration he begin to play drums. Also, Yoshiki always have a weak body. When they was a kid some doctors say to his mother that maybe he can die before become an adult. As a fact, in some early concerts of X-Japan, Yoshiki faints for oxigen loss because of her asthma. Yoshiki to put simply, is a fucking musical genius. He can compose from a metal song to a symphonic suite, her influence in Japan´s music in like the Beatles in UK and i´m that´s is not a joke. Also Yoshiki is a very sensitive person. Even decades after the suicide of his friend Hide he can´t speak a lot about this without bursting in tears. His life it´s the music, be on an stage and put theirs feelings in music, that´s the fuel that let him live. Obviously now he takes things more easy, but when X-Japan was born he have the suicide of his father still very present, sometimes he even thinks that "maybe i don´t be a good son" and maybe, only maybe he push himself to the limit. Like Yoshiki says "when you put all into something you can´t lose, worst comes worst you die" As some other people says, look at the documentary "We Are X" can explain a lot. Also a theme you must hear: "Tears" (with subs better). It´s a song about his father death, a true masterpiece ua-cam.com/video/p7Si-UqvVv8/v-deo.html
It is a neck brace due to damage from drumming so aggressively. I believe The neck brace in Baby Metal’s headbanger song is a nod to Yoshiki of X Japan.
The inedited version is the one who was live on TV and used for the VHS, it's an uncommon one. The most known version is the one from the later releases, like DVD which was slightly improved (better cuts mostly)
Thanks for your reaction. Hopefully more X Japan reactions in the future. Also please react to Luna Sea. Another extremely popular band in the 90's. They were signed to Yoshiki's (the drummer) record label.
Thanks for reacting again to X Japan. I think you are ready for their Masterpiece, Art of Life. Or you want to take a detour to listen to more their later songs, Jade.
X Japan also have some very good ballad songs... Such us endless rain & tears. & the funny thing is that brutal drummer also have soft side when he play piano but also sometimes in brutal way hahaha.. Oh yeah the drummer Yoshiki who is the leader of this band also make song for anniversary of japan emperor & theme sing for grammy award. & X Japan also make OST for SAW IV
great reaction! would love to see you react to some of their older lives back when the original bassist Taiji was still around. I recommend this two-in-one performance of blue blood and sadistic desire (my favourite by them) ua-cam.com/video/lV4XslF2vts/v-deo.html

The new version of this live video with the violin/piano beginning is quite epic.

Yoshiki is a celebrities nowadays, he even perform for queen of England
Not a lot of people realize how influential Buck Tick are, specially compared to X Japan, so I am always surprise to see comments acknowledging them!

Specifically head-banging while drumming. He had a cervical disk replaced.
