Great reaction. X Japan are a huge influence on just about every Japanese band ever since. The drummer/pianist/main song writer/composer Yoshiki is revered - he was even commissioned to compose a symphony or something for a special celebration of the Emperor of Japan. When the guitarist with the pink hair (Hide) died within just a few months of this show there was pretty much a national period of mourning. 'Kurenai' is one of the inspirations for BABYMETAL's song 'Akatsuki'.
X-Japan are Legends..even here in America! They are one of the originators, and surely only one of the original bands still around that started what is called "Visual Kei". Visual Kei was similar to 'Glam Rock' but with MUCH MORE CLASS..LoL!! The lead singer, Toshi, quit the band in 1999 as his wife led him into a cult..yes, a real live cult, and they took his music and money. 5 months later, Hide (pronounced Hee-day) the guitarist here with the Yellow guitar playing the into, was found dead in his home hanging from a door knob..he was known to have back and neck issues and used a technique of putting his head in a loop tied to a door knob while sitting against the door and then relax, which pulls the neck and decompresses the spine...but he got drunk and passed out doing it and strangled himself. They officially called it Suicide but neither family, friends nor fans believe that to be the case. Once Toshi got out of the Cult and won his legal cases to regain rights to his music and money, he rejoined X-Japan in 2010. X-Japan played Madison Square Garden in October, 2014 and they are still together today and have announced more Tour Dates. The Neck Corset is the center piece of the Babymetal Music Video "Headbanger" and is a tribute to X-Japan drummer Yoshiki, and has been used multiple times over the years by Babymetal. A "Neck Corset" has been given to Babymetal concert goers, at various shows (at the Legend XX in 2017 for Su-metals 20th birthday show all the neck corsets had lights that lit up) and is a fan favorite 'prop'. X-Japan were probably the best known Heavy Metal Band from Japan prior to Babymetal. They are the OG! We are X! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po! .
X-Japan are literally the kings of Japanese metal. Yoshiki, the drummer, is also pianist and a high honoroud musician. Kurenai, as many other songs of the, are indeed textbook songs for Japanese metal bands, and even Show-Ya, Nemophila, and other have played cover of their songs. Babymetal have created and played songs based in their big hits, as Kurenai itself (watch Akatsuki live) or Endless Rain (watch No Rain, No Rainbow). Yoshiki once called for a kind of contest called Lady's X where many great female metal musician played before him, for example, Murata Tamu from Nemophila, or Sakura Yoshida from Hagane. In another ocassion, Miku and Saiki from Band Maid, had interview with them, and a very nervous Saiki sang some verses of Endless Rain while he was playing the piano.
You are right on this video the vocals seen low, on other video from the same concert that have the same fast past his vocals are louder. The Drummer Yoshiki is the composer song writer and leader of the band. Yes he is wearing a neck brace he injured his neck over years of headbanging. Babymetal pays a lot tributes to X Japan and Yoshiki you may notice it on the song Death. A little fun fact about X Japan they have Sold out the Tokyo Dome 18 times That’s 55,000 each time. It could have been more but they got Banned from playing there. I think it was because they would set off the earthquake detection machines
Heard of this band because their name kept popping up in connection with Babymetal, as being an influence and inspiration. That neck brace the drummer has is apparently because of his neck injury due to over-the-top headbanging and fierce drumming style and Babymetal have used a neck brace in tribute to him on a few occasions (eg, in 'Babymetal Death' at Legend 97, as you've seen). Never checked out their sound before seeing this but I'm suitably impressed. Reminds me of some of the Punk bands I went to see between 1976 and 79, though these guys are more Metal, obviously. Will be having a closer look at their stuff after seeing this. 🦊🤘🤘🦊 PS 'Kurenai' means 'crimson' and is also used as a name.
All hail the Kings of J/Metal, their influence and reach know no bounds. Bands even today are inspired by the magic this band was able to create. Their breakup was a national period of mourning and many refused to accept that it was over. Look at all the covers of their songs by artists and bands even today and that will tell you the rich legacy this band has left and the lofty goal for other to reach for and try and obtain. Another great review and that rabbit-hole continues to get deeper the further down it you go (LOL)!!!
This song was originally released back in 1989. This live video is probably from 1996. X-Japan could be regarded as the "Godfather of Japanese Power Metal", although they are generally known as the biggest "Visual Kei" band. The drummer Yoshiki (founder and main songwriter) unfortunately suffered from a slipped disc in the neck from too much headbanging and had to face the consequences, having to limit his drum performance. Wearing a collar wasn't enough, and he had to go through disk replacement surgery a few years ago. Doctors are still warning him that if he continues to drum, he could end up in a wheelchair or worse.
i read a few comments saying that actually turned down d voice during editing. but when they were there in live toshl's voice was really loud that can hear clearly even at the very back seat same comments with Heat the bassist, bcoz some comments saying cant hear the bass
Gene Simmonds himself said that if these guys had been western (american/european) they would, without a doubt, have been THE greatest band in the world. And he's absolutely right. These guys are monsters. You've gotta react to Art Of Life, their magnum opus.
Hey Just check the BABYMETAL DETH LEGEND 1997 The part were SU gets a neck brace It is in YOSHIKIS HONOR AS HE INJURED HIS NECK BY HEAD-BANDING TO HARD DURING HIS PERFORMANCES X JAPAN THE BEST UNKNOWN HEAVY METAL BAND EVER AND THE MOST INFLUENTIAL JAPANESE BAND AS THEY ARE THE GODPARENTS OF MOST JAPANESE BANDS THAT YOU ARE REACTING TO JUST SAYING
For real, I don't know what happened with the audio mix on UA-cam with this performance but it sound way worse than on the DVD set. No wonder the voice seems muffled, there is something wrong going on here.

Truly one of the epic bands ever. The diversity and level of talent is amazing. Thanks for checking them out.

Rest in Peace "hide". X-Japans pink colored hair glam guitarist passed away 23 years ago now. What an amazing musician and human being that man was.

They are influence so many metal band in japan just like Baby Metal
As said before, too much headbanging = neck brace, Babymetal neck brace = tribute to Yoshiki.
Thats true
There’s lot of songs from this live are amazing, try the song called: weekend then you’ll know how talented of the drummer yoshiki is
i read a few comments saying that actually turned down d voice during editing. but when they were there in live toshl's voice was really loud that can hear clearly even at the very back seat same comments with Heat the bassist, bcoz some comments saying cant hear the bass
They definitely should not have turned down his voice.
