Also it was both a callback to “The Reynolds Pamphlet” AND “Satisfied”…. “I know my sister…. If I tell her that I love him she’d be silently resigned/he’d be mine/she’d say ‘I’m fine’/she’d be lyin’”
It's a GREAT song, and it's a shame it needed to be cut, but the flow of song works better. There's a rule in just about any writing, and that's "if something CAN be cut, it *should* be cut". Pacing can be a nightmare to figure out. But, we did get a slice of this in "The Reynolds Pamphlet", the little piece of this that could still be worked in-- Angelica still gets in her barbs there. But I'm ALSO glad that this was released as a standalone/bonus, because holy CRAP.
I actually think it was a good decision to cut it…. 1) “The Reynolds Pamphlet” flows perfectly into “Burn” and 2) it’s redundant. Angelica made her re-entrance and said her piece - simultaneously with the cold of liquid nitrogen and the scorch of Napalm - in “The Reynolds Pamphlet”. In fact, it was the high point of “Congratulations” that was in “The Reynolds Pamphlet”. I feel like this song would have taken away from THAT moment ETA 3) it was Eliza who was the one who was wronged…. She should have the big “wtf have you done” moment
Agreed. When they cut the song, they saved the most important PART of “Congratulations” and stuck it into The Reynolds Pamphlet as part of the montage of reactions, letting Angelica have her say, but as much as Angelica is the fan favorite, Eliza is the sister this play NEEDED to get right, and putting a whole other song between the betrayal and her reaction to it would have undercut her agency-she’s the wronged party, she was the one who had to deal with all the fallout in NYC, she’s the one whose voice NEEDS to be heard immediately, or she feels like a passive observer in her own life falling apart. I love the song, but it staying in would have been the wrong decision for the pacing of the work overall.
Yesssss, I knew you would love this one! My favorite deleted song, by far. I get why they cut it out, but at least we have these versions to enjoy :) (there's also a great version of it from ham4ham bits, Renée is KILLING it)

Exactly… and also exactly it’s great we still get to hear it! I don’t think I mentioned that in my comment

This is also my favorite of the cut songs. Followed by The Adams administration cut rap. You should definitely check that one out if you get a chance.
Will do! :)

WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE LIN MANUEL MIRANDA
I'll take it, he's a good looking dude lol
You should do "Helpless"
Have you done “First Burn” or “John Adams” rap. Both complete 🔥
First Burn is on here :) did it last week! The unedited version is over on my patreon along with the full show :)
I'll never forgive them for cutting this and the best part of the The Adams Administration out.
I agree. This song should have stayed in the show.
If it helps, Reneè said that Congratulations is a longer version of The Renyolds Pamphlet
Oooh ok!
