100% fat bike convert. I sold my Whyte T129 6months after buying my fatbike (which Id bought as a 2nd 'winter' bike). I didn't use my full sus once after buying the fattie - it just put a bigger smile on mile face. I've now raced xc, and enduro on it, podium'd and regularly beat my old full sus strava times. They may not be the best at everything, but they certainly aren't the worst. More important to me is that no other bike will keep me smiling as much when I ride it.

Everyone else is missing out!!! I'm currently building my 4th fatbike, 2018 Kona Wozo, and I can't ever see myself going back to a skinny tire'd bike. The shear joy these massive tires bring is unparalleled. The end all bike for me is a Foes Mutz. I can't wait until I can afford to build one.
You picked an excellent dude to review the bike, the fact he was as honest as he was, and willing to change his opinion (slightly) shows his character. Good stuff.
For Minnesota winters there is no better option for snowy single track! And no, would not replace my trail bike with a fatty. Lucky enough to have both.
Guess it depends where you live. Up here in Canada fat bikes are becoming very prevalent simply because you can use it all year round with all the snow/slush. Are they "cool"? In winter time when you're biking past the cross country skiers. Yes In summer time when you're biking past mountain bikers. No In spring when the trails are a sloggy mess of ice/slush/mud and you bike past a mountain bike that is stuck. Yes.
Has anyone who’s commented actually ridden one in snow??? They are not designed for riding on dirt full stop, here in Canada (Rocky Mountains,BC, we ride them November to April then back onto regular bikes.. you don’t see anyone on these in the summer. Anyone who says that fat tires make no difference in snow how about you fly here and actually take both styles of bike out and then we can watch you eat your words over the beers your buying. I own a 2018 Trek Farley EX 9.8 Full Squish Fat Bike as well as a Pivot Mach 6 Enduro Style bike and the Trek is my go-to more capable all season bike. Too many riders make wrong assumptions about Fat Bikes in general. Good to see GMBN getting more recognition or them. However doing a video with a FS Fat Bike would be great and offer more exposure. Fat Bikes are very popular here in Canada
I'm also in Canada, Ottawa. I use my rigid fatbike exclusively in winter and early spring, and only on the trails (WAY too much salt on the roads here in winter.) Never use it the rest of the year, prefer my full susp mountain bike.
Well I'm 73 and have road and MTBs, just got a used fat tire bike, and it just looks weird! But when I ride it (no suspension, 4" tires) it just seems to be a real kick. It is just fun and I just can get off road shoulders, cross country as in no trails, I just blow through sand and just grind up hills and grades. "Grind" is the operative term and when I hit a rock or three, 8-10 psi in the tires, I really can't seem to feel them. I have a Salsa, Mukluk alloy frame, not sure the year, say 2012ish? I must say I'm having more fun on it than my Foundry Broadaxe 29er hardtail. But I'm keeping both for sure.
My Farley 5 is my one and only bike. It does everything for me. I ride Trails, Parks, Jumps, and every day it brings me to work. Sure, I'm not Blake or Neil, but it's the right choice for me. I always have loads of fun with it. Are they cool? Who cares? My legs are not shaved, my bike cloths dont't fit colourwise, so - I don't care. And I give a sh... what all the others say. Period.

I’m having fun an getting off the couch for some excercise, that’s the whole point to me.. if people don’t think they’re cool I could care less.

What's not to like about a bike which can ride along the beach and clamber over any obstacle you throw at it? I tried a fully rigid fat bike in Tathra NSW and I loved it. Rode it down staircases, along the beach, on a lot of the single track in town and even finished up my 4 hour ride in the bowl of the skate park. These bikes are about FUN and about going where no other bike can go..... that's why I've got my name down for a 2019 Canyon Dude 8.0. Can't wait!

Yes they are :) I just bought a fat bike for winter but after riding it for some time, I really think it will be my first choice when riding on trails. I will probably still keep my HT for gravel but definitely won't need it for trails anymore :)
Hi guys. You really want to know “Are fat bikes cool?” Just ride one on a winter specific fat bike trail, just like the one we have in Quebec, Canada. You will be hooked and you’ll say “Damn, fat bikes are cool”. Keep up the good work.
Love mine. They're just great fun - a great second bike. I'll ride anything on mine that I can on my Insurgent. The only negative for me is that they're terrible in the gloop. Because they float rather than cut in, they tend to plough on rather than turn which can be a little scary at times. For anyone thinking of getting one, Mastodon forks are night and day better than the ubiquitous Bluto forks.
Same here. I have some luftkappe equipped Pikes on my Insurgent and the Mastodon pros are every bit as good in terms of small bump sensitivity and mid stroke support. The only negative I can say about them is they show up the lack of rear travel as I can ride harder and faster on them than I ever could on the blutos.
Living in Michigan, it just make sense for me to own a fat bike. Riding along one of the great lake shorelines or winter riding is some of the best fun I've ever had on a bike, but it just doesn't do it for me on the trails like a more traditional mountain bike does.
I live in New England. We have beaches. And mountains. And lots of snow. I mainly use my fat bike up in the mountains. We go to ski, and after, or when wind closes the lifts, you can find me on the snowy trails in the woods. Blasting along with powdery snow kicking up behind you is cool. That’s what a fat bike is for I think....or mud.
@@TheRealFlyingAnt Hmmm... I guess if I was shitting in public and it was bile, I wouldn't feel too cool at all. I'd probably go see a doctor. Just sayin'. As for fat bikes, I think they are pretty cool except when I see some guy humming along on one on tarmac. Totally out of their element. Then again, my XC MTB is out of its element on tarmac as well, but I still ride it there once in awhile, just to make me appreciate my gravel bike more. So, judge not; it's all good if you're having fun!
Our trails are primarily rode with fat bikes, even in the summer. They are so fun! You can do pretty much everything that you can do on a non-fat bike.
I’m fortunate enough to own several bikes one of which is a Trek Farley FatBike and I love it. It’s great fun to ride and makes easy work of muddy trails. I find the haters have never ridden a Fatty but they change their tune once they have. My Ibis is still my best all rounder for performance but the fatty is still great fun to ride which is all that matters 👍
Thing is your first ride on s Fatty is always a weird experience. It's takes a few rides to ge5 used to, once your used to the ride and the grip, they are brilliant so much fun.
I love my Pivot 429 Trail for spring, summer, fall riding. But I love my fat bike for the sand dunes, beach rides, snow, and riding in the winter muck since it’s a rigid frame with no suspension to get mucked up.
yeah, same here in NY. Initially, I was put off by them because the first time I saw one it was in a big box retailer, they were the cheap end of the spectrum and so really heavy. the second time I saw one was in a bike shop, and this guy who was obviously a regular came in to use their compressor to change his tire, and he had a real struggle getting it to seal well enough to inflate. He swore by it though, and said he'd never go back to a regular MTB. the third time, I had just gotten done with work, and my coworker and I were getting coffee and this guy rides up on one, so I stopped and talked with hima bit, and he was talking about how light it was and said here pick it up, and I couldn't believe it. I would definitely get one for the winter.
The added comfort, the ability to slide the bike with more control and the additional squish factor are the reasons why I bought one (although mine is electric so I can go faster) .
The UK may not be the best market for fat bikes, but here in the colonies they are very cool. My wife and I ride full suspension Farley's, and they will do anything Utah has to offer from Park City in northern UT to technical slick rock in southern UT. We also have miles of groomed snow for all winter riding, what is not cool about that?
I’ve got a Salsa Bucksaw and it is amazing on the snow and the dirt. I’ve also got a 27.5+ for it and it completely changed the ride. You wouldn’t believe how many people comment on my. Ike or ask to try it out. Freaking love the ride.
Love my On One Fatty Trail fatbike. The grip from the tyres is awesome, I'll never be the most confident rider but it gives me confidence where my skinny doesn't. Get some fast rolling tyres on it and once your used to it it will take you anywhere in any conditions. Across moor tops, at the beach or at a trail center, great fun!
I’ve actually had a really positive reaction from people who see my SE Fat ripper around town. (Not that I overly care what others think) Sure they’re not amazingly practical, but fatbikes are seriously good fun. Especially on snow & sand.
Strava nerds won't get them. Fat bikes are for slow speed fun, not speed. I have a mtb, emtb, hybrid and a fatbike and i think its my fav still in 2024
My ride along a MUP to my usual trailhead takes me by 2 high schools, 2 elementary schools, and multiple play areas. So I ride by lots of kids from 3-18 years old and they absolutely think my fat bike is cool. I get so many positive comments from them on my fattie -- probably average 2 per ride. And I once interrupted a drug deal along the path and the kids gave me a "nice bike" and then continued with their transaction. fwiw: I have never received one compliment when I ride my $6K road bike along the same path.
Mike Williams that’s because grandpas and careerpeople are known to ride road bikes. Pretty much any other bike is going to be considered cooler than a road bike. Not that I care since the point of riding isn’t to look cool, it’s about the feeling.
Hell yeah dude you need to do some more vid with the fat bike, things fun with all the gmbn team like game of bike in bike park, street, single track and more!
Bought a Trek Farley 7 one size smaller than my normal size and added a dropper post. With the Mastodon fork the thing is a beast on any type of trail and handles beautifully, and I never lose grip!
I’ve got a Caliber Dune fatty and it’s my go to bike now. I just love riding it coz it’s like a tractor with handle bars. Just point it and go! I’ve put Jones 2.5 riser loop bars on mine and they have made a good ride into a bloody fantastic ride. Highly recommend them, people!👍.
I live in the western US, in a town where mountain bikes are really popular. I don't see fat bikes out between March and November. But in the winter, we have a bunch of trails groomed for fat bikes, and they're really popular on snow. Even bought one myself just for that purpose. Super fun for that, but don't really ride it in the summer.
The first guy interviewed with the Vee Tire jersey is my mate, and it's my fully rigid Kona Wo he rode down at Windhill lol... link to video of him riding it below :) They are definitely a niche bike... I bought mine for a specific purpose (because Northamptonshire turns in to a soggy clay and mud pit in winter). It is slower undoubtedly... however, it keeps going where none of my other bikes can. Being fully rigid, it can be hard work on rough trails though. Are they cool? Dunno... like most things, perception depends on perspective. For me, it serves a specific function... I will say though it gets a lot of attention as I ride it round my local trails, anywhere in between hysterical laughter and abject terror :) Video link: ua-cam.com/video/H63JnCkWDMc/v-deo.html
Nice to see some positivity from GMBN reference fatbikes, they seem to be the only guys with open minds to another type of cycling. We just love fatbikes, in fact we love them so much we have our own brand, Smokestone Bikes. Fatbikes are much like all other brands of bike, some good ones and some not so good, also tyre's and pressures make so much of a difference. Plus Forest of Dean is where you'll find us a lot of the weekends. Great unbiased video guys.
I've ridden a RMB Suzy Q 5" fat bike around my local hills, and they are mega fun, would always add on to my bike collection but never replace a bike with one, currently ride a Intense ACV plus bike which is just as fun, more capable but will likely go semi plus and a 2.6" 29er next!
It's impossible to ride one and not have a shit eating grin on your face. I crave winter here in Minnesota so I can get back on my fat bike in the snow.
TheProjectX3 do it, you’ll be surprised how much you can do on one I sold my trail bike to buy my Farley 9 and would say it was the best decision I have made
So many bike snobs about these days. People lose sight of the essence of cycling. Riding is meant to be fun, not just a fashion show or going faster and jumping higher than the next guy. You can ride any bike, trike, quad or unicycle and have fun and challenge yourself. I can't see fat bikes being any different.
I sold my Framed Alaskan fat bike and replaced it with a Giant Reign SX. Even though I am more comfortable with the Reign, there are those few days when I missed my fat bike. :D
Having tried one in north Wales and used one in Norway in the winter i now have 2 (surly moonraker & cube nutrail ) would recommend everyone tries one for a dirty weekend. Your missing out if you don't..
Fattire e-bikes are nice, I recommend running a thinner front and a fat rear for e-bike if your rear wheel is your power wheel, and even for normal fat bikes, as the main problem I have is steering radius when both tires are the same size, and you also get less rolling resistance and more power to the ground in the rear.
The bike in the video still had relatively small tires for a fat bike, some have 4,7 or 5 inch wide ones. Some people drive them in sand deserts, on loose sand they can use this wide tires.
I love mine, that rumble of the tires when You hit the main road, sounds like a monster truck

total love for my scott big jon with mastodon and mono 1-11 (30-11/46). big fun in all activities!
YES, and they have a lot of purpose, riding heavy mud, snow, sand, it will even cross short distances of knee deep water
i love the wheels paired with the Bafang Mid-Drive kit.
Coming from a road bike background and went with a fatty straight away. Best. Choice. Ever.
100% agreed !
I have my FAT Mongoose
Giant Contend Disc Road
Custom Hyper 29 Drop Bar Gravel.
All I need for ANY ride / trail condition !
I’ve got a Salsa Bucksaw and it is amazing on the snow and the dirt. I’ve also got a 27.5+ for it and it completely changed the ride. You wouldn’t believe how many people comment on my. Ike or ask to try it out. Freaking love the ride.
It’s funny how almost everything gets distilled into how it “looks” which is also a lot of times determined by how much it costs.
Fat bikes are real trail blazers on any terrain. Test rode a Cannondale fat caad 1 and it was fantastic.
I love my Canyon Dude, it is the best bike I ever owned. Light, fast and maneuverable!
"Am I mad or is everyone missing out?" Can it be both? ;)
Big fan of the channel!
I’ve actually had a really positive reaction from people who see my SE Fat ripper around town. (Not that I overly care what others think) Sure they’re not amazingly practical, but fatbikes are seriously good fun. Especially on snow & sand.
I’ve seen those around town
What are the good for in terms of riding
Strava nerds won't get them. Fat bikes are for slow speed fun, not speed. I have a mtb, emtb, hybrid and a fatbike and i think its my fav still in 2024
Love the Forest of Dean, my local trails
Our winters aren't super crazy here in Central IL, but I'd still love to have one. Fully rigid for sure!
i think they’re super cool looking! if i had he money, i’d definitely ride one!
me too
I love my fat bike, don’t think I’ll ever go back to a regular mountain bike ever again! Also love that GMBN does videos on fat bikes
Dunno why regular mountain bike is called mountain bike because Fatty can climb much better especially if you have oval front chain ring.
Grandpas and career people ride urban or hybrid bikes. Road bikes are too fast for them.
Yes, I've noticed the attractive chicks really seem to dig the fatties as well.
Hell yeah dude you need to do some more vid with the fat bike, things fun with all the gmbn team like game of bike in bike park, street, single track and more!
I love how he says that he is the only one with a fat bike and a kid behind him hase one 00:8
That's a plus tire bike. Its basically in the middle of a skinny and fat tire
Bought a Trek Farley 7 one size smaller than my normal size and added a dropper post. With the Mastodon fork the thing is a beast on any type of trail and handles beautifully, and I never lose grip!
Thanks for recognizing the Fat bikes! What psi do you recommend for the trails ?
I ride Jumbo Jim 4.8 with 0.5 bar (~7 Psi) with inner tube.
It sounds cooler when riding. You can really hear the tires gripping the asphalt below you. Good video!
My aim in life is to meet GMBN at the FOD
I’ve got a Caliber Dune fatty and it’s my go to bike now. I just love riding it coz it’s like a tractor with handle bars. Just point it and go! I’ve put Jones 2.5 riser loop bars on mine and they have made a good ride into a bloody fantastic ride. Highly recommend them, people!👍.
7:33 those 2 kids in the back
Was behind one of these giant tire bikes on a rocky and rooty trail. She seemed to get hung up on a lot of stuff.
Snow and Sand. They prevail on soft surfaces. My fatbike floats over this stuff 😃
Well, here in Finland I start to see A LOT of fatbikes, seems like are pretty useful during summer and also to go for a picnic into the woods
5:33 *FAT BIKE GOT A MOAN OUT OF MR. YETI LOL*
Jesus Chavez lmao o no
I live in the western US, in a town where mountain bikes are really popular. I don't see fat bikes out between March and November. But in the winter, we have a bunch of trails groomed for fat bikes, and they're really popular on snow. Even bought one myself just for that purpose. Super fun for that, but don't really ride it in the summer.
The first guy interviewed with the Vee Tire jersey is my mate, and it's my fully rigid Kona Wo he rode down at Windhill lol... link to video of him riding it below :)
They are definitely a niche bike...
I will say though it gets a lot of attention as I ride it round my local trails, anywhere in between hysterical laughter and abject terror :)

That dude looks pretty cool, I think he should be a presenter on GMBN
So modest too...
Cool is very subjective, I'm a sucker for all things offroad! It mainly comes down to need I guess
Saw a fatbike at bracknell forest today. All i can say is; big bike, bigger man ;)
Donny I love my Farley 9 fattie and love the attention it gets on the trails, especially when riding the big trail centres
As if you've done a video asking this?! Of course they are.
This guy Anth is a pretty good reviewer. I think he deserves more videos.
Say hi to Martyn for me
I've ridden a RMB Suzy Q 5" fat bike around my local hills, and they are mega fun, would always add on to my bike collection but never replace a bike with one, currently ride a Intense ACV plus bike which is just as fun, more capable but will likely go semi plus and a 2.6" 29er next!
It's impossible to ride one and not have a shit eating grin on your face. I crave winter here in Minnesota so I can get back on my fat bike in the snow.
I love mine!!! It’s the perfect year round bike here in New England!
Yes.
I bought a trekk Farley fatty this year and my mountain bike has stayed in the shed ever since
Fatbikes Yeah baby!
I just bought my first fat bike today. I bought it for winter riding. I have studs on mine. I have an e-mtb for summer.
A fat bike will pull away from a full suspension 27.5 bike in snow or silt.
Anth is really sympathic, take him into your team ;)
I’m available!
I have no room for another bike and the more I see it the more I want a fatty
I have two and I love them.
TheProjectX3 do it, you’ll be surprised how much you can do on one I sold my trail bike to buy my Farley 9 and would say it was the best decision I have made
Simon Matthews I actually live in area that is pure sand or snow in winter. Fatty on snow still need studded tires I think
TheProjectX3 only if you get hard packed ice my f9 with 3.8 tires coped perfectly fine with the snow we had here in the UK
I have 15
i can say as a beginer on fat bike learning wheelie is so much better because of the fat tires and its light in the front :)
I daily a fat bike
Become alot more appealing when our trails are snow covered a good part of the year
What's not cool is somebody with a 4-8k mountain bike who can't do a drop of 2ft and go around.
There is always someone in this world that looks at you and laughs. You can’t please everyone but you can please yourself, in the dark, alone...
They are cool when it is cold. Or as a cruiser. Or as a Monster Jam pit bike. Or if it's just your thing.
No
So many bike snobs about these days. People lose sight of the essence of cycling. Riding is meant to be fun, not just a fashion show or going faster and jumping higher than the next guy. You can ride any bike, trike, quad or unicycle and have fun and challenge yourself. I can't see fat bikes being any different.
If I had to choose just one bike it would definitely be a fatbike :-) Greetings from Finland!
I sold my Framed Alaskan fat bike and replaced it with a Giant Reign SX. Even though I am more comfortable with the Reign, there are those few days when I missed my fat bike. :D
I have the Framed Wolftrax carbon. I love it.
