When the PCM is in CarPlay mode, the split screen gives you access to the vehicle controls. Swiping up will change the options/functions that are displayed such as Climate controls, navigation, media etc.

Thank you, good review given how much info is there and the extensive range available. There is way more to discover, that requires more use to find and time for you to explain. EG: Apple CarPlay and Porsche Voice Control, that actually WORKS!!

Thanks for making this clip, I do have a question, is this system available on every Porsche model from 2020 ? Even for the base models of some cars?

The back up camera is great on a clear day. Ever try to use it on a rainy day?!! Porsche should have hidden the rear camera like Mercedes, popping out just for the occasion. This will eliminate the problem of a foggy or muddy camera.

I am taking delivery of 2021 911 cs in a day or so in this was very useful and would love to see more infotainment videos.
    Suggestions:
Maybe something on the music capabilities - USB, vs Bluetooth for instance - pros and cons
Burmester porsche app and what its does and how useful
Carplay vs auxiliary music like ipod
A comment on carplay screen size. I have carplay in a Subaru outback and it has the exact same issue with small screen menu items for carplay options. I might speculate that Apple has provided car manufacturers with an interface tool to build/integrate into their infotainment systems and have NOT provided the capability to change the screen size. So Porsche and other manufacturers like Subaru etc are stuck with what the Apple/Carplay interface restrictions are. Apple has always been much stricter in enforcing what can be allowed via interface into their software. Un like Windows which is much more open but with that more open architecture comes a host of opportunities for hacking.

I like your explanation of the features of the PCM. Really simple and easy to understand. I have a 2022 Cayenne Coupe which has some of the features that you have displayed but not the interior ambient lighting. Can it be an add on? Also the voice Navigation system just does not work. Every time you ask for directions to a destination, the voice comes back at you with a "WHAT DID YOU SAY' and "CAN YOU REPEAT THE DESTINATION" time and time again. It cannot understand my voice no matter how many time I repeat or try out the voice activation. Even followed the prescribed commands in the manual. Have you encountered this problem before and can you help?

Ordered the 2022 Macan and know there are some changes to the PCM, but just don't understand the hate for the Android. Does the PCM allow for texts- send and receive- with an Android/Samsung?

That infotainment is perfect for a rotary knob control interaction but unfortunately they don't have one and the touch icons are definitely too small to interact with while driving. Even as you were interacting with it while parked, I can see you having to really stretch and angled your hands and fingers to scroll through the menu on the side and top. Other than that, it is big, wide, bright and a clean setup.

You’re right - it’s a bit tricky to use on the move. Part of the reason that’s frustrating is because the steering wheel controls don’t really offer the functions you can perform on the screen. They could definitely improve with steering wheel interactivity.

Try Voice Control. You can ask for telephone contact list, by saying ‘call Bill Smith’, or for Nav, ‘enter address’ then give suburb, street, number. You can say, ‘play station Smoothfm’, or ‘I’m too cold’. Try it, you may be surprised

There is a rotary knob to control the PCM next to the volume scroll but it's located awkwardly above the gear selector

Do you know if the PCM system will allow you to use google maps?
I have found the voice nav very clunky. Asking city then street then number. Google maps are so simple and fast.
    Thanks for a great review

      They use Google Maps.
But you must have a data plan connected to your connect account to use it, or just an apple phone to use it in car play. But the google maps in car play isn’t as good as the Porsche pcm version of Goggle Maps

Hey Bibek - the car we were testing here is the Porsche Cayenne Coupe - it’s the entry level turbocharged V6 petrol. We will have a full review of it on Friday!

Wish you could better manage radio stations from the steering wheel. Shuffling through channels without having to use the infotainment system

that start-stop option on the car is so pain in the ass, it shuts off when car was still running, i made the on&off button on the steering wheel , mine is cayenne, but i think it runs similar programming in Panamera

The app has everything except the MOST important item to control remotely….climate functions such as preheating, seat heaters, steering wheel heat, etc. C’mon Porsche. Step up your game. We use these functions all the time on our other vehicle. They are game changers.

I bought a new panamera in August. In September I saw that they will launch a new model (RIP) that has some changes in the pcm, including wireless Apple Car Play... I don’t have Apple car play wireless in my car and that’s annoying i have to plug on USB port... do you know if they’re going to launch any software upgrade to fix it?

    • @CarExpertAus
      @CarExpertAus  3 роки тому

Good question! Check with Porsche, but it would make sense for it to be a basic software upgrade, as opposed to something more major.
