- Chickpeas (garbanzo beans) can be transformed from soft and mushy to crispy and crunchy. It's quick, easy and inexpensive in an air fryer.
Note: For Celsius cooking temperature, it should be 199, not 9, lol.
I bought my first can of chickpeas a couple months ago and they were just sitting in the cabinet, but now they're in the air fryer. Looking for healthy snack ideas. Thank you
Wonderful! I hope you enjoy the results 😀
I cannot wait to do these tomorrow! I’m gonna do both savory and sweet batches, hehehe

The crunch made me want to make some immediately!! Thank you for such a great snack idea!! 😊
You're welcome! Enjoy :-)
Made them Lemon & Chilli flavoured! 😍 Squeezed half a lemon, spray oil, chilli powder, chilli flakes, garlic granules and sea salt! 👌
Right on! 🙌
Yea!!!!
I just made these they make a good 12 AM snack
Right on!
Where they crispy all the way?
Haha. I’m eating these right now and it’s literally 12:00 am on the dot.
Not me reading this comment at 11:30pm thinking up quick air fryer snacks
Ohhh yes for those midnight munchies 😋 😁
This guy is great! He is very thorough and I appreciate the fact that he said Garbanzo beans and Chickpeas are really the same thing. Big help, as I did not know that. I also like that he takes his time and really shares so much about what he is doing and why. For example, he went over the oil he was using, but he made sure to mention the other oils you could use. Very helpful. I'm subscribing. Thumbs up!! ❤❤❤
Thanks ever so much! Glad you found it helpful. Happy cooking 🙏
Just stumbled upon your page. These look amazing. Trying them tomorrow! 👍🏻
Right on! I hope you enjoy them 😀
Best flavor for these is both savory and sweet, like how you would flavor jicama. Chili powder, salt, honey and lime.
I just bought 2 cans of garbanzo beans and can’t wait to try this recipe. Thanks.
You’re very welcome. Enjoy!!
Going to do this and add them to my salads! Thanks!
Thank you so much Matt, I really really enjoyed watching you create these brilliant crunchy chickpeas and I absolutely adore chickpeas anyway, so a request for more recipes containing them would be greatly appreciated. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too.
Thank you so much 🙏 Happy cooking!
Mate thank you so much, I tried them tonight (the savoury ones) and they were absolutely amazing! Next time I'll try the sweet ones 😋
Fantastic! So glad to hear. Cheers!
Made theae today. Came out perfect 20 mons at 195C. Really good thankyou for the recipe.
Wonderful! So glad to hear. Thanks for watching and happy cooking :)
@@IWantToCook No, thankyou. My kids fight over them.
i've been looking at different videos for roast/air fried chickpeas, to try and answer a question, which is, if using dried chickpeas, do I need to fully cook, or just pre soak. and bam, 1.40 into your video, you answered it already! Awesome. Pre soak only. I thought that might be the case, but wasn't sure. Thanks a lot mate, much less work.
nb. My spice of choice will be chaat masala. Smells funky due to the black salt in it, but oh so tasty.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching and happy cooking 👍
Thank you for sharing! I'm trying the savory ones now but I substituted the olive oil for bacon grease 🥓😊
Yum! Enjoy :-)
I just ordered an air fryer and I am DEFINITELY trying these! Great snack alternative to other less healthy things. THANKS!
Thanks for watching! Enjoy that new air fryer; I think you’ll love it 😄
This looks great and healthy! I 'm going to try coating/seasoning them with wasabi powder. I love the wasabi peas sold in cans. Thank you for the video.
That sounds delicious! Thanks for watching 🙏
Rockin it

Thank you so much. Tried it out and man were you right. Keep up the good work.
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching :-)
Looking forward to making these in my air fryer. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching! Enjoy 😋
Very good video. I’m going to give this a try. Thanks!
We used to go the Farmers Market (indoor) when I was young and instead of candy, I almost always got chi-chi beans (chick peas) for a snack. They were dry and hard, so I'm not sure if they were raw or not. Just bought a 4 lb. burlap bag of chick peas and will "soak" them the quick way with one of my Instant Pot pressure cookers then try to make some savory and sweet versions in my convection oven or NUWave oven from years ago. Happy cooking and thanks for the channel.
Thank you watching and sharing your memories! Happy cooking 😊
I love chick peas !! Im gonna use the dehydrate function on my air fryer thanks 😅
Ok, I hope that works with canned chickpeas. Can’t say I’ve tried that method; only air frying/roasting. Much quicker and the heat ensures crispness and browning. Cheers 👍
@ they were good just need to be more crunch i roasted them next time ill leave them in longer 😄
This looks great! Thanks for the recipe 🤩
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video. I needed the right temp to cook them on. Going to air fry some today.
Awesome -- i hope you enjoy them!
Thank you so much for this recipe. New to trying out Chickpeas and was looking everywhere how to roast dried chickpeas with an airfryer and I stumbled on your channel! Thanks a lot, gonna give this a go.
So glad to hear! Thanks for checking it out, and I hope you find the results delicious 😋
Love the intro music you use! Love chickpeas too!!
Glad to hear! Thank you for watching 🙏
great video....
Thank you 🙏
Thank you. I'm a snacker. This is will be great forca midnight snack
Right on and me too 😀 Hope you enjoy!
Thanks for a great addition to me menu.
Thanks for watching! 🙏
Just found this and gave it a try. The suggestions to try different spieces is solid. I threw some savory spices in and added a bit of powdered chili for a kick. Delicious! Definitely need to fine tune my air frying technique as they did not cook evenly. It actually helped me to identify the weaker and stronger points of my air fryer since some weren't quite done and others were a little more than I would have liked despite shaking them around at the half point. Still turned out delicious, though, and a relatively cheap snack! Thanks for the guide!
Thanks for watching, and enjoy that snack! 🙏
Thanks
Thank you so much!! 🙏🙏
great recipe! I was lamenting about how I don’t have snacks at home but then I found 3 cans of chickpeas 😎
Then you've got snacks now! Thanks for watching and enjoy :)
Ok I have a large Home Russo air fryer only 10 I put it on 15 minutes and slightly charged some but they were awesome to me kinda like camping thanks for the Idea. I used mesquite
Right on! Glad to hear they turned out well. 😀
Wow thanks we used popcorn seasoning and was wow thank you
Great to hear!
I made these today! They rock! Thank you!
Hope you enjoy! Thanks for watching 🙏
Mmmm... so good! And mouse approved too! Air fried some last night, chowed down, then left the remainder on the kitchen counter in a glass dish. This morning the crunchy garbanzos were gone, but not without a fair trade of a tiny deposit. 😃 (Little fella' will be kindly moved soon to a new country location)
That is too funny! Well I’m glad that all manner of creatures enjoyed the recipe. Thanks for making my day 😀
I made using the talian herbs powder. Omg delicious
Fantastic! Way to go 🙌
It seems delicious 😍 I want to try it!
But 390 Fahrenheit is not equal to 9 celsius, though... 9 celsius is 48,2 F, very cold indeed
390 F = 198 C, but I just use 200 C
Yep, i meant to put "199" in that text, and rounding to 200 C should be perfect. Thanks for watching & enjoy!
The John Wick music was a great touch.
love this becuz I've never made these and want to try so thanks for the video
You’re very welcome. Enjoy!!
Fantastic! I’m making this tomorrow! Thank you!
You’re welcome! Enjoy 😋
Very good recipe
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching! 🙏
Don't have a air fryer 😢 but these look delicious ❤ but with your directions ill try in my oven. Im always looking for a good healthy snack 😊
I hope you enjoy them! 🙏
Thank you so much they came out absolutely delicious however there were too many so some were not as crunchy as others but I enjoyed all of them
Glad to hear! Sound like a little experimenting with amount will make the next batches even better.
Thank you, excellent video
Thanks for watching!
Thanks I’m gonna give them a try
Thank you! I am going to try this today.
Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy 👍
thank you so much, i have seen other receipes for these but they sound complicated. i did get some seasons, just couldnt find any for bbq. if you have any recommendations please share. thank you
Thanks for watching! I recommend experimenting with seasonings. For example, you could try paprika, a bit of brown sugar, garlic salt, cayenne, etc. That is part of the fun. Enjoy! 😋
@@IWantToCook thank you, sounds good
Thank you for the tip, I must try it soon.
You’re welcome! Enjoy 😊
I can't wait to make these. Thank you
Thanks for watching! Hope you like them. 😋
WoW 😲😲 Love this snack. I don't have an fry air, can you do this on the stove in a pot? They look very crispi. Love garbanzos. Well I am watching from Trinidad 🇹🇹
Hello from California! If you have a standard oven, you can use that. Cook at 425 F and shake every once in a while until crispy. As for the stove, yes, you can cook them in a pot by shallow frying them in some oil. They will be a bit fattier that way, but definitely delicious. Happy cooking! 🙏
@@IWantToCook thank you so much for the answer to my question. I'm going to try it. Pleasant evening blessings 🙏 take care God bless you richly 🙏😘🌹🌺🌹🥰🍎🍉🥝
Thank you I am going to try this..
Hope you enjoy!
You can also crush them up and use them for breading on air fried Krispy chicken
Omg I love this idea! Thanks 👍
I'm putting Mines in the Air Fryer Right Now. I hope it's super good 👍.
Great! I hope you enjoy.
I can’t wait to try this. I was going to buy a bag of these crispy chickpeas at the grocery store and they were $5.99! No way am I paying that much for chickpeas.
I thought the same when I saw those prices! Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the results 😀
Ooh, I think the leftover seasoning I saved from almonds & pistachios will b great on these. Honey roasted, salted caramel churro, honey butter & bbq. Had rather excessive amts left & flavor was delicious so I saved for something exactly like this. Wee! Tried once in oven yrs ago but have been wanting to try in my air fryer.
Those seasonings sound great. I hope you enjoy the air fried chickpeas!
Hey you might want to check your conversion from Fahrenheit to Celsius, it’s not correct.
OMG, you are so right. Good catch! That should be 199 Celsius. Thank you :)
I cooked it at 9 and it came out perfect
Yum will make these tomorrow..thank you
You’re very welcome. Enjoy!
Great video!
Thank you!
Will definitely give this a go. I see that 195c and 20 minutes is the way to go.
Great! Hope you enjoy 😀
I just did and they worked out pretty well. I used garam masala. Think I might have cooked them too long as they are slightly hollow. Less time I think. Nonetheless it was definitely worth a go and thanks to your video I did. Made it my own thing like you said.
Oh Yeah…. I’m Trying it! ☺️ …. Just gotta get Some of those Beans.👍. I’m trying the Sweet then Salty. I luv Quick healthy snacks like this. 😁 I’m excited ! 😊
Excellent! Enjoy 😀
I can't want tou make these and try them thank you so much
Thanks for watching! Enjoy 👍
Brilliant healthy snack… 👍🏾
Thank you!
Ooh Wasabi powder ?
Ooh, that’d make a tasty punch! 👍
I’m using hominy for making my snack.
can you recommend a good air fryer cookbook?
Hi, there! Unfortunate I can’t because I don’t have any. What I would recommend is a search on Amazon for one that is top-rated (and you can often download a digital sample to see if you like it) or, if you fancy, a trip to your local bookstore or library to browse and buy/check out one in person. Cheers!
Most people don't realize Chick Peas are also very high in Iron. They have about 25% iron per serving.
That’s fantastic. Especially important for those on a plant-based diet. Cheers!
Really? I'm am so low on iron and don't want to go to the dr for a infusion. I'm off to cook these now
@koalabrat Eat more Hummus! Yum!
@@WurdNinja007 for iron?
@koalabrat Yes, its made with Chick Peas. People generally love it or hate it. Most Greek & Lebanese restaurants serve it with pita bread. Delicious! Also Chicken Liver is high in iron. I prefer them fried myself. I learned what foods were higher in iron when I donated Plasma for extra money. Donating depletes your iron.
One little tip ❤if you smash them flat using a flat spoon or your fingers they ll get same crunch n look flat n tasty like they sell in Asian stores..❤add chopped cucumber and chopped onion squeeze of lemon n eat with tortella chips as a spoon...they taste fantastic 😍
Thanks for the tip!
Im a vegetarian and these are awesome for getting enough protein. I love seasoning them like tacos.
Fantastic!
I’m trying them now,I hope I don’t get gas
Ty! Gonna try this today!
Could I do a spray oil (like Pam spray) instead since regular oil has so many calories per TBSP?
I wouldn't. I fear the chickpeas would end up being quite gummy and not taste great. That said, you can always try doing so with just a handful to see how you like them. Cheers.
Ramen noodle flavor pack. Your choice of shrimp, beef, chicken, or butter...
wow! Thank you. I'll try these later :)
You’re welcome! Hope you enjoy 😀
can this be done in a toaster oven?
Yes, but the caveat is they probably won’t be as crunchy and it could take more time. However, if your toaster oven has a convection function, that can make it more similar to an air fryer. Try using a slightly higher temp - maybe 425 F - monitor closely, and toss occasionally.
Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching! 🙏
I love it when a garbanzo beans on my face
Had to come back and say thank you. I just made some. I have to watch my sodium so I can no longer eat chips, sunflower seeds, and pork ribs and I miss the crunch. I can control my salt and have my crunch back.
Thrilled to hear you like it! Thank you for watching and commenting. All my best to you!
390 degrees F is 180 Celsius, not 9 Celsius as in the video :)
Indeed. Boneheaded mistake on my part when editing video. Cheers.
I'll make sure to pick up some extra cans next time I go shopping
Good idea! They are now a staple in my pantry. Enjoy!
when only soaked same method? thank you!
Yes! I’ve found that method works just as well (if not better) with dried beans that have been soaked. After soaking just shake off excess water and proceed the same way with a toss in oil and seasonings. Happy cooking and I hope you enjoy. 😀
Is it smart to dry them on a paper towel after they are wrinced?
Yes, that will help get the water off so they can be ready to be tossed in oil. I recommend that because water and oil don’t mix, and you want the oil to coat the chickpeas.
making this tomorrow morning
Hope you enjoy! 👍
Would sprinkling a tablespoon of corn starch in the bowl with the seasonings make them crispier?
I’ve actually never tried that, so…. Possibly. When I want them extra crispy, I just cook them longer. Because the cornstarch is a possible alternative.
Can I make this with fresh chickpeas soaked overnight.
Absolutely. In fact, that’s how I do it these days. Enjoy!
Curried chickpeas are great! Use curry seasoning.
Great idea! Love curry seasoning.
I would love to try these but I don’t own a air fryer. So how can I make them otherwise? Please tell.
You can also cook these in an oven, even a toaster oven. I would bake them at 425 F on an oven tray and shake every now and then. Start with 15-20 minutes and cook until they are crispy to your liking. Cheers!
Thank you so much I really appreciate you guys for all of your healthy food tips.
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome and thanks for watching 🙏
Instant pot cooks dry chickpeas in about 40min. You can get dry ones for like a dollar a pound, dry!
They’re a regular in my Instant Pot. In fact, I just had hummus for lunch!
Mine still seems to be a tad soft on the inside. Any idea why? Is it the moisture on the outside or I didn't air fry it long enough?
Likely not long enough cook time. There’s a tipping point of sorts where they are soft, still soft, and then remain soft…. Until they quickly crisp up. Just have patience and check often as you the machine runs toward the end of cooking time. You got this!
Thanks so much for your reply! OK will play around with the timing as I understand it differs from air fryer to air fryer.
I did try a version without oil and it was soft all the way haha. Oil does really help.
A little over a week ago a friend got me an air fryer that's like an oven. I'm loving all it can do! I'll be making these garbanzo later tonight.
Fantastic! Hope you enjoy 😀
I think I cooked them a tad bit long. LOL!
Doh! We've all been there. Cooking is all about experimentation. I know your next batch will be better :)
does anyone know how much goodness is lost from the chickpea,if any, using this method
My air fryer has a grate for the bottem should i put tin foil in the bottem?
So does mine. I don't normally put foil in; I think the grate help with air movement.
do you still have the same air fryer? 6qt?
I’m actually about to donate it. The device still works after some 5 years of significant use, but I recently purchased a larger one with more functions new in box at Goodwill.
@@IWantToCook what brand?
and do you (as a chef) still recommend the chefman?
Yes, the Chefman was a champ and served me well. I also like the simplicity of that one. The new (to me) model is called Gourmia and so far it’s been really good, too, if not a bit more complicated due to having more features and controls. I see those at Target for a decent price. It is a basket model, which I recommend.
Would avocado oil be okay?
Yes, that should be fine. Avocado oil has a high smoke point, which means it should do well coating the chickpeas in the heat of the air fryer. Enjoy! 😀
should I hear popping noises while it's in there?
Yes, that’s normal 👍
You said. Your “mileage may vary” when talking about your temp on your air fryer lol 😂
I’m a car guy, so those turns of phrase naturally slip in, lol.
Please don't discard chickpea water from can! Considering how expensive eggs are, like 34 cents each, I use 1/4 cup liquid to sub for one large whole egg in baking. I tend to use it where egg is used more as a binder than a leavening agent.
It is also possible to use the water from cooking chickpeas, but the consistency is kinda tricky. You need to cook it down to reduce to the same as you would get from a can. Great money saver!
Thank you! I actually learned the attributes of aquafaba after making this video. I appreciate your comment and mindfulness to not waste. Thank you for watching and happy cooking 😀
How to air fryer the Edamame frozen seeds?
Hmmm. I haven’t tried that but I think it might work. I’d try same method as the chickpeas.
As soon as I head you can buy them for a dollar, I checked the year this was published.
Yep, even canned beans haven’t escaped inflation. That said, they are still a terrifically inexpensive food, and can often be found on sale. Another tip: You can use even less expensive dried garbanzo beans for this, and all you have to do is soak them the night before. It works great!
Lol right. Still inexpensive though
