This was my first serger purchased about 9 yrs ago. I struggled with the threading and tension adjustment in the beginning. finally checked videos on UA-cam. I decided to purchase additional sergers that were easier to use. Mine was pretty loud but reminds me of a work horse that gets the job done when used. Good luck and I hope you have lots of success with this serger.

We bought this serger for my daughter and a DZ 1234 for me. They are the same machine. My only problem was threading and changing colors but UA-cam videos saved the day! There are other feet you can purchase for it as well. I also bought spare cutter blades which are easy to install. Also, I try to always test the tension on each different fabric I sew on.

I just purchased this serger (brother 1034D).I'll advice you to take your time to read the manual. You don't need to play around with the serger. The manual is understandable. You'll actually know how to adjust the tension and every other thing, it saves a lot of time. Mine came with a dvd, yet to watch. Better to learn about the machine before operating on it. Trust me on this. Wish you the best:)

Hey Everyone, LOOK AT THE BOOK, it tells you everything. no need to 'play around' to set tension. I love my 1034DX serger by Brother.

I just purchased this serger and I am a bit overwhelmed, but your video helped. Do you have more instructional videos for this serger?

So to use regular thread spools you don't use the little cone looking things underneath? Just the thread spools and spool caps?

I just got this same serger, how has it been now that you've had it about a year?

Ok, I am really considering getting a serger - and its all your fault! You are amazing and I love following you videos! I tried last fall to start with 1 project a month, and I was getting better and building my confidence but then I moved in December and haven’t work on anything since! I’m definitely getting the fever again and want to start back up. I decided I wanted to “treat” myself to a serger. I need something reliable and user friendly, but not the price of a vacation! My goal is to get back to doing a piece a month and maybe an additional small craft project. I am seriously thinking of this serger. Do you have any suggestions? Is this a good beginner machine? I want something Easy to learn but also I can grow my skills with. Do you recommend this machine? Thanks! Love you! You have the most beautiful smile and amazing ideas! I can’t tell you how many of the same patterns we have! Lol. Great minds think alike! Thanks again!
