I thought one of the pros to synthetic ice was the increased effort required so when you get on regular ice you can breeze (like taking practice swings with a heavy bat)
hey pavel, i saw you at the richmond ice centre on friday training with some kids. I cant believe I got too see you. My buds were absolutely amazed to see u and it was a great experience watching you!!!
some of the drag of conventional blades on synthetic ice is some of the training benefit I was always so much faster getting back on the ice in the fall. it almost forced good skating form
working on the agility blades are good if you are not working on skating but if you want to work on skating than use normal skates because if you skate till it feels easy than when you get on actual ice you'll be faster and it will take less effort
I would argue against that. The resistance when using regular skates makes some kids change there form and cheat in certain ways. The Agility Blades allow you to keep it more ice like...more ice like the better. Definitely wouldn't hurt the skating.
If you watch the Video in 0.25 Speed, you can see, that he started to turn his shoes a bit early, yes. But the presure only aplies at the cone. But so or so, he just wanted to show, how fast these shoes can stop you.
I don't see how they would work on ice. Because you move by slightly melting the ice you're on and the wheels wouldn't give enough friction or surface area on the ice to allow you to move forward. They would probably act more like a toepick, I could be completely wrong with my thoughts on it though.
Hi Pavel! What do you think is a better off-ice solution; synthetic ice + agility blades OR marsblades on a nice flat surface? Personally, I don't understand why people even consider using synthetic ice because the sensation is nothing like real ice + it totaly dulls your skates withing 15 minutes of "skating" on it.
I'll bet if you train with regular skates on synthetic ice you'll feel like your flying when you get back on real ice. Probably you'll be going faster too.
I have a problem, I've skated for a few years now, I'm comfortable on both, ice and roller skates, but I've moved cities and as I live in Spain there NO skating rinks in here in my city, however there is a synthetic ice rink not far away from it and I went there and when I tried the ice it was really slippery and didn't slide at all so I've read you are supposed to heat the blade before skating, however, my problem isn't that it doesn't slide much it's that its slippery and before you can even push to slide your legs have slipped, that's why I was wondering is it a problem of the quality of the ice or are you supposed to heat the blade? Sorry that was confusing 😂 I just really don't want to give up on skating and there's no way I can skate on the synthetic ice like I'm doing rn (btw I do figure skating) so uhhh please help xD
Never seen these before so maybe a stupid question... if there was a "locked" setting on the wheels would that make them viable for playing on ice and quicker sharpening?
So, is this your regular practice routine? If so, how come youre not practicing with any gear on? not even the gloves? wouldnt this make you move abit diffrent in general since youre not encumbered by it?
How often do these agility blades need to be sharpened? I hear regular skate blades need to be sharpened after 40-45 minutes of skating on synthetic ice.
Hey pavel barber, how do you know if it is synthetic ice? I have a shooting pad that is like 20 ft and like 20 ft wide is that synthetic ice? Because it's really slippery with socks on and it looks a lot like ice is that synthetic ice?
Does anyone know if these are still being sold. The Agility shop link doesn't go anywhere, and the Facebook page hasn't been updated for a year. Doesn't look good!!!
I know this is an old vid, but why does he practice stick handling without gloves? Gloves as well as elbow pads are the biggest hinderance when it comes to wrist movement and freedom/flexibility when stick handling.
Probably not. Most hockey shops have every inch accounted for due the variety of stuff they carry and sell. You'll probably have to find a very specialized store for this. I have been to 2 hockey specialty stores for replacement wheels. People have heard of these but are nowhere close to carrying them, much less allocating the space and practice for the sharpener. Of course that is just reflective of where I live.
In Cambodia? I mean I live in a diverse community so I've seen just about anyone from any background playing hockey, including a Cambodian. But if you play in Cambodia now THAT'S something else.
Big news for those that skate on synthetic ice. The Mel's Rink Foundation has developed the V GAP Blade. A new blade for skating on synthetic ice. There Is No Comparison Between Traditional Full Length Skate Blades And The V GAP Blade, when Skating On ANY Synthetic Ice Surface. The V GAP Blade Is 100% BETTER! Better Glide. Better Turning. Better Control. Better Experience. Actually Feels Like Skating On Ice. The V GAP Blade is a game changer for the synthetic ice industry. You can see the blade in action, read more about how the blade works, on the website. www.melsrinkfoundation.org/v-gap-blade.html The V GAP Blade is Pat. Pend
"special holder" right there that tells you there is no market for this. good luck sounds like u need to start over to bad the idea is really sweet...simmy ice won't let go stride as much as real ice so the wheels with blades help you bridge the gap
Yeah it is a very tough market to tap into. It relies on people/facilities having synthetic ice which is already a small market. It also isn't easy/convenient to sharpen. But having a special holder is by no means a deal breaker (example: the Marsblades). However, it would help to have a boot attached which they are already thinking off. Thanks for your thoughts!
Pavel Barber thanks for the reply when I say no market I mean as far as it being in EVERY skate sharpening pro shop rink etc. I mean if it gets to that point you are a multi millionaire lol so I guess shouldn't of said no market maybe mainstream is a better term. it would be really cool to see these pick up I'm from Detroit so believe me these would be a hit we have inline hockey rinks all over the place in parks like basketball nets are and it wouldn't be a hard transition to put the synthetic ice down and get kids to switch to that from roller.. cause after all we play roller to fill the summer void of ice... my question is how would the surface fair outdoors open to the elements and heavy use...just shooting ideas man I'm 29 been playing hockey since I was 4 and don't plan on stopping ever and when I see something like this I see logic and also a new level something that could truly replace inline hockey with the right tweaks as long as you can make speed and wear and tear meaning how much abuse you put your body into on synthetic compared to roller hockey or ice...
Dont have to pay a lot of money for ice time. Unless the prices have dropped significantly in the past few years they were selling these sheets of plastic for 500 bucks a pop. while they do last 15+ years its still not very cost effective to have 20g tied up in a small little surface
I think I saw a roller skate that is alot like these....they have anywhere from 6-8 wheels...has anyone else seen these...I have tried to find them...to no avail
I thought one of the pros to synthetic ice was the increased effort required so when you get on regular ice you can breeze (like taking practice swings with a heavy bat)

That's awesome buddy - I'm there a lot :) Glad you enjoyed watching - those kids are pretty hard workers!
oh yeah they are
Zayyan Mohammed tag,bvs
this is freaked amazing!!!! wish i had access to something like this when i was younger.. just another reason to move out to Vancouver.
I train at Agility Blades every week!!
Pavel I want to see you use them on real Ice ! Would the rolling wheeled blades work on ice the same ?
Very interesting and good video. I imagine the real problem is a) finding a sharpener and b) the high cost of sharpening as it takes so long.
Lol made me laugh.
So it feels like you're skating exactly on rollerblades?
Ben Paul No, it was to help people understand how it might feel.
@@UltimateBreloom Ya I gathered he made the reference so people could understand the magnitude of difference between the feel

7.05 so you can see I started my stop there, like hell you did you started to break several feet ahead of the cone.
If you watch the Video in 0.25 Speed, you can see, that he started to turn his shoes a bit early, yes. But the presure only aplies at the cone. But so or so, he just wanted to show, how fast these shoes can stop you.

King Wacky yeah 😂😂😂😂
Awesome video Pavel, sweet moves. Can you show all the different ways to stop and if there's a big difference on the synthetic ice.
just out of curiosity, how would they feel on real ice?
Can't use them on real ice
can you try them?
Pavel Barber you literally have to try them on real ice haha everyone wants to see it brother!
I don't see how they would work on ice. Because you move by slightly melting the ice you're on and the wheels wouldn't give enough friction or surface area on the ice to allow you to move forward.

Great review Pav! would love to hear your thoughts on those VH skates ya wear:)
The most Canadian “out” I have ever heard 😂 cool video tho!! never seen skates specifically for synthetic ice
These are amazing!I tried them last year at agility and they are the closest to the real thing!
how would these work on real ice?
The bearings would rust. Would damage them too much.
They would NOT
No they wouldn't they will dig in and you'll fall. It would be fun if they did to see people's reactions to them lol.
These are actually really cool.
Do you still train with Aito Iguchi?
Yep
That's so cool!
Jammy_ n
I'm taking those things out on the pond!
Great for Florida, we got so much outdoor ice in Canada it could be hard to envision a Canadian on those!
Outdoor ice. Does Everton think it’s constant snow in canada?
We’re lucky if it snows once during the winter in Vancouver lol
wouldnt synthetic ice wear down quickly.. especially with stopping on edged metal wheels
I don't play hockey or really ice skate much. But really wanna see the agility blades on regular ice. And if they would even work.
ten out of ten this guy should get dex skill cape, that dex is lvl 100 for sure. How did you level up so quick?

by the way, you've got some serious handles man... great stuff!
Hey Pav can you do a review on your vh hockey skates because I am looking to get some.
Plz try them on ice
It is ice
@@blankmindtheory3446 no he skated on tiles
i really want you to show us what it's like to use these to ice :')
So, is this your regular practice routine? If so, how come youre not practicing with any gear on? not even the gloves? wouldnt this make you move abit diffrent in general since youre not encumbered by it?
can you do a video on how to goalie because i didnt actually know if that first two goalie videos were a joke or not
How much cheaper is booking time at a synthetic ice rink over regular ice? I live in the US south, we don't have anything like that around here.
Where do you get merchandise from him?👍
Can you do a video on weight training specified for hockey?
Question for you. In this video, were you skating on Ice or were you skating on plastic?
Donny Dougherty synthetic ice, it was plastic
r_streit twitch Thank you. btw Rangers and Blackhawks for the Stanley Cup Final.
Hey Barber, if I want to use synthetic ice and I am a goalie would u recommend the Agility Blades or just regular goalie skates to train?
ur an awsome skater
How often do these agility blades need to be sharpened? I hear regular skate blades need to be sharpened after 40-45 minutes of skating on synthetic ice.
Could you cut pizza with them?
Great vid Pav keep it up
Hey pavel barber, how do you know if it is synthetic ice? I have a shooting pad that is like 20 ft and like 20 ft wide is that synthetic ice? Because it's really slippery with socks on and it looks a lot like ice is that synthetic ice?
Hey pav I was wondering if you knew any stick handeling drills to do with a cast on your arm
Is this something that you buy as a whole or separately then add to your boot?
Does anyone know if these are still being sold. The Agility shop link doesn't go anywhere, and the Facebook page hasn't been updated for a year. Doesn't look good!!!
also i LOVE your channel it really helps with some stuff
Hey Pav,
What GoPro attachment do you use for your helmet
How do those agility blades handle on real ice? Must be even less friction than a single blade. no?
Where do you live where your more than 20 minutes from an arena with real ice?
I know this is an old vid, but why does he practice stick handling without gloves? Gloves as well as elbow pads are the biggest hinderance when it comes to wrist movement and freedom/flexibility when stick handling.
Nice review and skills
Will regular hockey shops have the sharpeners for them?
Probably not. Most hockey shops have every inch accounted for due the variety of stuff they carry and sell. You'll probably have to find a very specialized store for this. I have been to 2 hockey specialty stores for replacement wheels. People have heard of these but are nowhere close to carrying them, much less allocating the space and practice for the sharpener. I was born their but I can here when I was 5
do you have to have special synthetic ice? or can i use mine from better hockey
Wow! You are the only person that I've met with the name Pavel, besides by brother... haha
unreal skilled man !!

In what league is he playing in? He's pretty good right?
nice stick handling
I think this company and marsblades should combine to make this product with the mars blade tuuk
do you know where I can get a pair of agility skates?
My local Peranis has synthetic ice.
Very clever, innovative invention...
I don't need to try it to know these would completely shred and chop ice to pieces as you went over it.
I just noticed that Pavel has a small lisp... no worries though lol
is synthetic ice what inline roller hockey is played on?
What GoPro mount were you using at 3:33?
Curious does agility blades do less wear and tear on the synthetic ice versus regular blades?
Obviously
you started that stop at 7:00 like 7 feet ahead of the cone...
I wonder how good would they be on ICE?!?!?!
"special holder" right there that tells you there is no market for this. good luck sounds like u need to start over to bad the idea is really sweet...simmy ice won't let go stride as much as real ice so the wheels with blades help you bridge the gap

Synthetic ice is so hard to skate on
Should put some bones reds bearings in them.
what kind of puck is that with the white on top
the air must be filled with small plastic particles from that "ice" that are shaven off with the blades, nice breathing that shit in.
jannu jokunen They're big shavings, not dust.
Do they make a roller version?
im curious to see agility blades on actual ice
I think someone did a vid on that look it up on UA-cam idk what its called tho
It looks like just running normally. And that kinda takes the idea of icehockey
do they work or have goalie skates
would they work for goalie skates?
so special roller blades cool
Do the synthetic blades work on ice
I once skates on a sheet of plastic with real ice skates
Are those better than marsblades?
Could u pls skate with those on normal ice
