It struck me that nobody had a hard hat on and missed other safety items. I don't want to go overboard that you need goggles when you drill a small hole in the wall, but this was serious. Still was an interesting video and thanks for staying around even when the battery was running low.
Heck I always thought Gypsies were moths didn't think a moth could steal a section of RR track... What would a Gypsie or a moth do with a section of RR track... Let me know in the comments...
Lack of safety precautions at almost all times, no one should go under when it is jacked-up with cables. Not even simple PPE like hard hats. Tug wires should be used to align back on the track, not by personally go near to tug back on rails when the loco is suspended. Human lives should be of top priority against all machines.
This has to be the all time worst rigging I have ever seen. If they had a rigger he should be fired then the rest of the gaggle should be flogged. If I was the carne operator I would have shut the crane down and walked away. You need to label this as the worst of the worst. Every move they did was wrong.
Jimmy Gray You are absolutely right! But that’s the way of doing such kind of activities in Bulgaria. Even when somebody get hurt or dies, nothing will be changed.
This did look scary to me at moments. There is a lack of lifting capacity, equipment and proper procedures to do the job in a safe way. On several moments the locomotive suddenly moves and is likely to fall over on people standing near it. They could have done this work safe with the one crane with far more wood to prop up the locomotive, and having the hook straight above the lifting points as well. Instead of lifting that one end up all the way, they should have done it a bit at a time, first leveling the locomotive out and then bring it up to rail level, after each lift putting more material under it. When at rail level you can start to swing one end out above the track, put it on and proceed with the other end. But indeed, this is the way its done over there untill someone dies.
You are absolutely right, but unfortunately that's the way of work in Bulgaria and on the Balkans. Even if somebody dies I think nothing would be changed.

is the takraf crane comparable to the "german" kirow cranes as i know them from the former GDR? I know that kirow seems to be something from eastern countries (russia?).
No, in most of the cases they improvise. Of course they have a person in charge, and they know how can do their job, but I mean there aren't two equal derailments, so there are different ways to put back on the rails a derailed car or locomotive.
I was partiticularly struck by the fact that the photos at the end showed that the crane was clearly capable of lifting the locomotive clear of the ground, which left me wandering what all the earlier stuff was about.
I'm sure. I have the technical data of the loco and the weight is 110 t. When it's full with fuel, cooling liquid, sand and etc. the weight is about 115 t.
I was wondering the only real practical way to re-rail a derailed train is using a crane. But i would imagine the only practical way to get a crane out to a train in a reasonable amount of time is to have the crane bolted to some service train. What i am getting at is i don't think one just drives the crane like an ATV out there in most cases. (it to arrives by track)
I feel way to much focus on the loco and really little on the crane as a whole. At one point around 4m on it became obvious the guys in right foreground were looking and pointing towards lower part of crane. My guess was outrigger was sinking under the load. Sadly not filmed. By 4.39 out of the 14.51 video I gave up watching. If you ever get to film another rerailing with similar crane please show more of the whole setup... Like how close was crane, what padding if any was under the outrigger pads, was the crane anchored to the rails with the jaw dogs and turn buckles? ETC.
Why did it fall off the rail? as one of our presidents said one time maybe this way he JV team. why did they pick it all at one time. they had to lift hooks on the crane.
The loco derailed, because there were missing parts from the track. The boom lift of the crane isn't long enough to serve the whole weight of the loco, so that's why they can't lift it without risking a crane damage.

No, in most of the cases they improvise. Of course they have a person in charge, and they know how can do their job, but I mean there aren't two equal derailments, so there are different ways to put back on the rails a derailed car or locomotive.

It's a diesel locomotive, and the exhaust is on the roof. The roof is black because of the smoke exiting from the exhaust system.

Those cables don't look like they can lift any more than 300 tons.
I am guessing that old loco doesn't even weight 100T and they can only partly lift it.
The loco weights about 110 t
Are you sure?
I'm sure. I have the technical data of the loco and the weight is 110 t. When it's full with fuel, cooling liquid, sand and etc. the weight is about 115 t.
***** 110 tonnes? That light. In Canada locomotives are 400 to 500T. That explains the lack of ground gouging or how little damage to the track.

Absolutely no need to lift one side first, they could have attached the 4 cable set right away, would have saved half a day putting logs under the loc
That would probably have resulted in a fail video where the crane tilts over.

ECWnWWF There is no fault of the engineer. A group of gypsies have stolen parts from the railway track and that’s why the train derailed.
Yes, gypsies always want lots of sleepers (ties) and rails. They use them for making dinosaur cages.
Interesting!
It's always easy to blame the Gypsies. Looks like poor or negligent track maintenance.............
