Quick note, I didn't cover every feature in this video because it was already a long one. I covered the things I felt I'd be most interested in hearing about. My apologies if I glossed over a feature you were really hoping to hear about.
the only person on all of UA-cam out of all the reviews of all the podcast mixers to actually mention that the pads can play longer samples !!! Thank You !!!!
i heard the 3/4 stereo link ability, but wonder why he also did'nt mention stereo link for mic channels 1&2 also? I'd buy this in a heartbeat if channels 1&2 and then 3/4 could be linked to support stereo mic's (Townsend labs sphere as an example)
if you click on the samples tab you can pick different banks on the black menu below the tabs, it changes with every tab. I do like your suggestion on utilising the knobs.
This was a fantastically filmed review. You’re deserving of many more subscribers with how well you explain things. I’m struggling with deciding whether I should get the rodecaster pro 2 or the DLZ creator with 4 XLR ports. The number one thing that has me leaning towards the DLZ is the automix. I’ve been podcasting for a LONG time, and I am tired of silencing the other tracks when the person is silent. Would love your thoughts.
It would be nice if the DLZ supported multiple sample rates like their USB mixers do. Some folks need 44.1 or 96k support, not for quality but just for compatibility.
It doesn't support 44.1 ?. Or it doesn't support mixing different sample rates together?. I'm confused 😕 This is the mixer I'm really interested in. Can I ask, for recording on the mixer, is it a mini or full-size SD card that's required?
Hey Tefty, Lefty here again. I love your videos. You are a very good explainer. I just mentioned the sync-problem with the MPC and DLZ (44.1k vs 48.0k) the other day. Do you have connections to Mackie-Support? If so, could you ask them if they can make the sampling rate changeable?
If you are playing music then, want to turn the volume down to speak then turn it back up. Auto ducking does this for you without you having to touch the fader and do it yourself.@@creativegreatsvisuals
Timecode is a feature that just doesn't get included in basic mixers. You have to spend about 8x the amount to get a mixer that actually has timecode, like the Tascam 16XP.
Excellent video. Small question, if we occasionally have 5 or 6 people on our podcast, is it possible to connect a USB mic to the USB input, and a mic to the Left Right line, as with an XLR to L+R adapter? Thank you 🙌
I've been using this for a while and find that it's somewhere in between super powerful and not quite there, as you point out here. I love the idea of it, but it is too big and the overall flexibility lacks. I also do music in addition to content creation and I would love to use it for both, but I just don't trust the quality for music.
I would be really interested in your process for making music related videos. I’d really like to be in a position where I could film my beat making and music production processes while essentially spurting my internal dialogue. I was looking at this unit as a kinda do it all interface but the lack of time code for a say a 3 camera setup is definitely a limitation!
Time code was my first issue and the fact that it can’t record past 18-20 per file on sd card. With them being g sold I don’t see any more upgrades now so worried I might sell it
Great recap. Do you know if you can link mic channels, say 1&2 into a stereo linked input? I use the Townsend labs/UAD Sphere mic which is 2 mic cables due to the dual capsule.
I think i fall in love with this Mixer. I use a DualSetup and im still on my old usb Auna 900b with Voicemeeter :/ WHAT I NEED TO KNOW, if i watched the video right :) by enabling Multitrack in the System settings i have the possibly to use in OBS multiple in/outputs? my plan is to use like 5 lanes in OBS bc i like it more having 5 Audio lanes in Editing afterwards :D 1. Alert(FX/Samples) IF this is possible the money is totally worth later to invest for me :D also i guess they will be some awesome firm-updates :D and also awesome video :D its a will ago that i could watch a long video without break :D
I have one problem with the DLZ Creator. I cannot play media files on the machine. I record the media on USB, but only can play on another device. Anyone has any idea of what I am missing?
Can you plug in key board and a mic at the same time and perform also can you record both at same time ? Also how is the feedback I experienced some problems with using Yamaha product for sound card .
Hi, it is true that the self-noise of the pre-amp come out more than acceptable from the unit if it is set to 100% because there isn't a safe gain position reported from the builder. Anyway it needs to be at list evaluated connecting a dummy mic just using an xlr male connector where a resistance (150Ohm or 300Ohm) is solder between pin 2 and 3. Adding gain without nothing connected or with a regular microphone is not a real self-noise. Thanks for the rest of the review but please correct your room acustic, there is some echo-reverb that is not great for a voice scenario.
Hey Mick! Yeah these digital mixer hybrids are getting really interesting. And yeah, the backpack has these straps so you can actually secure an MPC One in the large compartment. I've done it before with decent success. The DLZ will fit the most snug, but it definitely works for other gear.
The reverb and delay in the DLZ is a send effect, so you'll have to record the LR main outs to have the effects baked into the recording. There's no separate effects per channel possible, like in a DAW.
Could anyone please inform me how to connect my Mackie Dlz creator to my M1 Macbook pro? Are there any drivers needed? I'm trying to connect to logic pro X and i can't !
Great idea, but still wouldn't add timecode to the files. The beauty of timecode is that the recorded audio files would have timecode baked into the files so when you load them up into something like Davinci Resolve all the cameras with the same timecode would auto sync together with minimal effort.
Can someone help me? So I want to record a game session with a buddy of mine and use Discord. But I notice that 9/10 records both game and voice chat using discord. Does anyone have any suggestions?
NDI is not working for me. Ethernet is working, NDI source is visible in OBS and other tools/Apps. But no audio signal there. Anyone having the same problem? Bought it used, as it still is having warranty i will send it in for a tech check/fix.
For A High End Professional Full Time Voice Over Artist - Do You Think It Is Necessary to Export You Product as a 96khz Sample Rate. Or Interms of LA/NYC Would It Be A Deal Breaker Sending Studios 48khz Sample Rates Via Email?
If a client is requesting that format, you can always uprez it in your audio editor. 96khz allows for more details beyond 20khz, but speech/VO recordings don't really register above 16khz and most people wouldn't be able to hear those small details in the real world. So I personally wouldn't worry about it.
READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY 1. The fact that this unit records in FAT 32 file format is going to ruin SOME people's days. be careful out there. if you are recording a 1-hour long podcast, just note that this will break down the 60-minute-long recording show into 5 different files....yes, you read that correctly...5 different files of 2.15GB each...if you don't want to be manually aligning your audio at the end of the recording sessions, do not buy this. i sometimes record 3 hour long podcasts and I do not like MANUALLY ALIGNING my audio, only because this can throw off SYNC with video throughout the show at some point if not properly and precisely aligned (And no, it won't SNAP into place PRECISELY). 2. Also, MACKIE has not yet fixed the file name issue they have. every file is recorded and stamped with the same date, ALWAYS, and you won't be able to change that. it records every file with the 8th of MARCH of 2023...so finding out which file is which is a nightmare. 3. The media pads are HORRIBLE in my opinion. as a music producer, I have not yet encountered stiffer pads. it isn't light to the touch or anything close to that. you have to hard press them to trigger them. 4. Cannot connect it to the internet to update firmware or date settings, you have to manually place the firmware file into a flash then install it inside the machine etc...not a huge inconvenience, but then again $800 ?! 5. The unit does not automatically give you separate stems in various files. instead, it records them in one single file which you then have to open it in your DAW to extract the stems from...not all DAWs have the MULTITRACK functions to break these files down (Studio One 6.6 doesn't). Customer support is not great at all. the guy there is rude and it's like he doesn't want to help you at all. answers you with attitude for no reason, especially after you just dropped $800 on this thing. look, at the end of the day, to each their own. to some this may be helpful and to others this might upset them. At the end of the day, for me, this is 100% not better than the RODECASTER pro 2...even though RODE just acquired them
Usually there is no more noise added at 100% preamp gain, its linear noise, but unlinear gain ammount on the knob, so you are just adding more gain which will show more noise from the mic, because the mic is louder, but the (clean) signal to noise ratio, is the same or better at higher gain settings
Hmmm I'm not an electrical engineer so I can't comment on the design side of things, but I know from personal experience that every preamp I crank to max brings up the noise floor regardless of whats plugged into it (or not plugged in). And this goes for expensive preamps all the way down to cheap audio interface preamps. Just my 2 cents 👍
Quick note, I didn't cover every feature in this video because it was already a long one. I covered the things I felt I'd be most interested in hearing about. My apologies if I glossed over a feature you were really hoping to hear about.

I appreciate you taking the time to make these audio demonstrations. I am using the DLZ 1 with a Shure SM7B and I also have a Rode Procast.
Best review of this mixer that I've seen.
Good remarks on the issues, the missing timecode and for me your remark about faders 3 & 4 (stereo line) and 8 (jingles/shorts). Thanks!
i heard the 3/4 stereo link ability, but wonder why he also did'nt mention stereo link for mic channels 1&2 also? I'd buy this in a heartbeat if channels 1&2 and then 3/4 could be linked to support stereo mic's (Townsend labs sphere as an example)

Congrats on the new kit 🙌❤️🙏
I wish they would do a version of this for musicians... say 2 mono mics, 4 stereo keyboards, and an auxy stereo input. Loving how sleek it is.
Yeessss! Or even a 24-32 channel version with IO expansion via AVB or Dante.

Great review. I’m debating on purchasing the rodecastor duo or the dlz xs
I just brought a DLZ and i love it.
What do you think the future of the DLZ will be since Rode just brought Mackie?
There is an auto ducking feature you missed. It is in the options menu. It ducks ALL channels to channel 1 by about 6 dB.
Thanks for pointing that out 👍
