Princess Diana Crash - First BBC News Report (interrupting 'Borsalino') 1997

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 7 чер 2014
  • The first news report of the Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed car crash in Paris, France on a BBC News announcement.
The news flash with Martin Lewis was interrupting French film Borsalino, starring Alan Delon and Jean Claude Belmondo - the movie scenes before and after the news announcement have been left as they were broadcast: a funeral scene followed by a Paris street scene.
Recorded at the time on an old VHS video cassette late at night whilst I watched the film 30.8.1997. This is before they reported Diana dead.

Just a coincidence, but if you believe in the whole illuminati thing, then they love their symbolism, they like to show themselves like a psychopathic serial killer who deliberately leaves messages. The same thing with 9/11, it seemed to be everywhere in the media, symbolically, before it happened.

+Chris 1992 Never heard anything about the BBC being involved. The most prominent conspiracy theory about Diana's death was that the Royal Family had her killed because she was cavorting around with a Muslim (and possibly pregnant with his child, some versions claim).

Fantastic piece of history by the way. Martyn Lewis went to bed for all of three hours after this and was dragged out of bed to appear again for the official anthem broadcast later. Her death was announced on BBC World, which was hastily broadcast on BBC 1 all night due to the lack of a 24 hour news channel at the time.

My mum says that she was woken up that morning by a phone call from a wrong number, a man calling his own mother to tell her that Diana had died. My mum thought this was a dream until later that morning - I still have no idea if this really happened, or she had a dream similar to this, or what. Regardless, it was a very strange Sunday. My grandad took me out and the local stately home whose park we'd go to was abruptly closed out of respect etc.

I recorded this film off the TV when it was shown on the night of the crash.
This was in the days before 24 hour news channels in the UK and there was always an ominous feeling when you were watching TV and the picture faded.
You knew it was a newsflash and that, more often than not, you were going to be told that something terrible had occurred.
I saw the newsflash from the recording when I got up the following morning after it had been reported that Princess Diana had died.
I didn't bother watching the film when I found out it was the dubbed version.

Worst part was the early news just said she'd been in car accident and was in hospital giving some hope that she would make it through. If the final outcome is bad which it was in this case I'd rather hear that first rather than having hope then the worst happening. Tho the time it happened would mean most people would of heard first of it after she was confirmed dead.
This is an example of why people should always were seat belts. 4 people in that car only 1 had seat belt on and only the 1 with seat belt on survived.

I was listening to Magic FM and breaking news said Dodi was dead but Diana was seen to walk away with a laceration to her thigh and a cut above her eye, possibly a broken arm. I ran upstairs and watched as that wasn't repeated but radio silence seemed to foretell bad news as Robin Cook hadn't gotten his scheduled flight from the Philippines. The talk of the flash before a downshift in gears followed by the actual crash and the blaring horn was on the news. Everyone agreed that the paparazzi arrived minutes after the crash. Then all of a sudden she was dead. My mum said "that's that, they bumped her off, that interview and rubbing the Fayeds in their faces all summer...she SHOULD have known what the establishment is capable of.."

If you believe that there are signs out there for things to come, it's hard not to think that with this video. I get chills watching this! The words of the priest about saints, resting places and Paradise in this movie scene, it's almost like the angels were surrounding her in Paris, protecting her as she faces what her last few hours would be. Tomorrow is the anniversary again. The world misses you Diana, I hope you are resting in peace

What time was the first bulletin (London time)? When did they announce she had died? I believe I tuned into radio at 9 or so and it was on the hourly news and then at around 11 pm Iowa time BBC shortwave announced she was gone. Can someone correct me on the time? Thanks.

    • @theebloxinator
      @theebloxinator 2 дні тому

This bulletin aired around 0140 UK time. Rolling coverage/BBC World simulcast started at 0230. All coverage went to the domestic feed at 0630 but the International feed went back to it's dedicated coverage. All other channels were merged to BBC Television from London (same for those who simulcasted BBC1 or whatever feed they probed in). BBC2 went to Grandstand (sports) but BBC1 stayed with news coverage and continued to overnight until closedown; second BBC World simulcast at 0020. CNN announced her death at 11:50pm ET, and aired a snippet from the 0630 announcement at 0710 UK time. (2:10am ET?) MSNBC showed live pictures of BBC World for a short amount of time. ITN did 2 newsflashes - one at 0130 and another at 0440. That's all i know, to be fair.
P.S.: The official name for BBC Shortwave is BBC World Service. Ciao

What's annoying is that they didn't continue the film from the point where they interrupted it!
They did that once on Film4 when The Godfather Part Two was on. For some reason, after a commercial break, they repeated the EXACT SAME FOOTAGE that had been shown after the previous commercial break!
And how did they correct this?
Did they put up a message or announcement apologising for what happened?
    Of course not.
Instead, after the next commercial break, they completely skipped the next section of the film in order to catch up!
So you ended up seeing about 20 minutes of the film twice and entirely missing another 20 minute section that followed it!
I could (maybe) understand them doing this if there was another film on after it but there wasn't! It was the list film shown that night!
It's just as well I'd seen The Godfather Part Two before otherwise I would have been seriously pissed off.

Lol, it could've been an accident. They played part 2, commercials, they accidentally played part 2 again, commercials, they thought they played part 3 properly, and started playing part 4. Happened to me a few months or maybe even a year ago on Dutch FOX, watching some random hospital set-dramaseries. I saw the ad-break (the ending of one part, Netherlands doesn't show ads during every break in an episode), and then right after the story made no sense anymore. I googled to find more information about the episode, turned out an entire programblock was accidentally skipped 😂
