Definitely something to keep an eye out for .. especially for those colors :-O
Share your thoughts of this collection in the comments down below! Too much of an Oyster Perpetual copy? Better than the Tissot PRX in your opinion? Let me know what you think!
Make sure to check out @TeddyBaldassarre for his review of the yellow dial Tsuyosa!

As always, thank you all so much for watching! Feels good to be back :-)

The Gubel test alone deserves the thumbs up. it might be one of the best looking citizen I've seen recently.
Kudos to Jenny for being partial, yet submitting to Gumbi's wisdom
The Gubel test is the most scientific method known to date! Great job 😁
I thought of it as a "cat scan."
@@jsusna1972 Badum-bum!
😂
tbh i was expecting a gubel paw rising from under the table to jiggle the bracelet.. but, it'll suffice
I love Gübi
A smaller 38mm would be perfect for many of us. Love the dial colors and case design. Passing the GubeI test is a plus. 🙀
Totally agree! Don’t like large watches anymore.
No
The size is just right. It doesn't wear big.
@@jolamos1703 I agree.
They need a 34-36mm version for people who like classic style.
Sharp looking watch. It reminds me more of the PRX than the OP. Glad you're feeling better. Welcome back!
Think people forget the look of certain Citizens from the 70's/80's. I think this is more of a modern take on their vintage catalogue. Love the yellow dial, really striking and a nice budget deal
I'm a huge Citizen fan and it's been nice to see the brand appearing on channels such as yours and Teddy's. I think Citizen should consider a quartz version as well. The main problem for this watch is the mighty Tissot PRX.
Yeh I think the integrated band on the prx is just much better
But these are cheaper. Automatic prx is costly.
The tissot prx is unoriginal, ots basically a cheap royal oak. This is much much better
I own both a Powermatic 80 PRX (blue dial) and a Citizen Tsuyosa (yellow). The PRX is miles ahead imo, but it costs 3x more, so it should. Even the quartz PRX costs considerably more than the Automatic Citizen. Citizen offers great value - this is a watch that you can easily buy under 250bucks and you are getting the integrated bracelet design, a sapphire crystal and a reliable movement (the new versions even hack - mine doesn't actually, it's one of the first batches). I don't think the PRX is "the main pronlem" to this Citizen - they can definitely coexist and the Citizen is getting to a market that the PRX doesn't.
I definitely agree with you, my friend. The same watches with the same colours as exactly same as these ones must be created with Quartz versions as I personally do not like automatics falling behind in time due to their very mechanism.
In a world where Seiko is known as the dominate Japanese watchmaker for highly polished dressy watches and durable dive watches , and where Casio is synonymous with rugged and tactical watches from that same country, Citizen often gets overlooked when discussions arise regarding Japanese watches. That is unfortunate because Citizen produces some beautifully crafted watches, and their higher tier watches have some pretty eye catching designs. Granted, many of those stellar designs are in cases that are too large, but that not withstanding, they are a brand that should not be overlooked or ignored. Thank you Jenny for featuring them.
I associate Citizen with busy overdesigned chronograph watches unfortunately, even though some of their designs are really nice that's what I see in jewelers windows.
Ah, but 44/45mm is my sweet spot. Yay Citizen!
Agreed with you, Citizen does get overlooked. When I went to college, Citizens were generally worn by students on a budget and you could buy them at discount stores along with Timex. The company, like the other brands, tends to reserve some of their better designs and finished watches for their domestic market, but if you're willing to order from oversears you can get some great deals on watches that will be unique in many countries. Currently I'm looking at a Citizen Mechanical Silver Leaf Lacquer Dial NB1060-12 (JDM) watch with a dial that rivals that on many of the Seiko Presage line. The blue-green dial makes me feel like I'm looking into a deep pool of water. Runs about $700 USD so competitive with many of the Presage line.
@@hibernopithecus7500 I am happy for you, but as a guy with embarrassingly small wrists, watches with a width of 44 mm and above starts to look cartoonishly large on my wrists. The only watches that I will wear that are that large or larger are Casio G-Shocks as they have a tactical look, and appearing large and muscular is part of their appeal. However for the more dressy or casual look 38mm to 41mm is ideal for me.
@@balesjo Thanks for informing about the Silver Leaf. It looks beautiful and definitely can rival the Seiko Presage - a line of Seiko that I love and, of which, I own two. Speaking of higher end Citizens, I have grown particularly fond of Citizen's Attesa line. They strike a nice balance between dress and sporty.
Orient Star should be the next brand from japan, they are soooo good, in house, great finishing, good bracelet, and history, so underrated
Get the bambino, total class.
They will become seiko … an overpriced brand after some time
@@dostoevsky90 OS is underpriced, if they charge more for their watches will be fair
Owned by seiko
@@ekimandersom4478 yes, but is a whole different brand completely independent
It's a pretty nice looking watch. Citizen are beginning to make some interesting watches. That tucked in crown is similar to older Seiko 5 pieces though those Seiko's seem to have given the same look while making it easier to pull out and negotiate the positions. Excellent review as always. I do like the green and yellow dials. Glad you're feeling better. Have a great 2023!
One of the most subtly striking watches I’ve seen in a while is the Axiom BM7580-51L, as recently featured on Watchfinder’s “Watches Under $300” videos.
As a technical design, it struck me as something that was designed by a Zoomer who was tasked with designing a watch that someone in the 70s thought watches would look like in 50 years.
And from a more “romantic” (for want of a better word) perspective, it’s like that person whose blended in with your environment for years suddenly getting a hair style or wearing an outfit that, while not killer, perfectly accentuates their best feature, but then they go back, only now you notice them first everywhere & can’t remember why.
See, now, that’s not supposed to happen with a Citizen 😄
Citizen was making interesting watches before you were born son
dude its literraly a 1978 citizen reedition ; you kids are so ignorant .
Happy that you’re back Jenni !
Great review Jenni. The Green and Yellow looked the best, but the Black goes with everything, wardrobe wise.
Me being the diehard Citizen Watch owner that I am. I'm blown away that this is your first review of a Citizen Watch on your channel.
If it was available with an Eco-Drive movement, then it would be a terrific daily watch.
This. I'm waiting for this. Need a replacement for my existing ecodrive, I broke it in an accident ;-;
If you wear it daily you won’t have an issue with it stopping so eco drive isn’t really important.
@@troxigg Eco Drive's are way more accurate if accuracy is important to you.
Eco-Drive still need the battery replaced regularly. That sucks
Love mine. The green dial is so beautiful and it fits so beautifully on my wrist. My first automatic watch
Happy new year Jenni. Glad you’re back and feeling well!😊
Jenni! You’re soooo close to 300K subs!! 😱😱😱 biggest congrats EVER! And amazing review, as always! 💕💕💕
First, Jenni welcome back! I'm pleased to see you branching out into watches whose cost is less than the sales tax on most watches you reciee. I think this is an ok watch for the money. I'd like to not see split pins in the bracelet, but the dial colors are a brilliant idea. I'm not a fan at all of the Miyota movements, but they did a great job of making it pretty.
I'd say they made the right compromises to reach that price point.
All in all, a decent watch and a nice starter watch.
Welcome back! Love the videos. I recently purchased a Nomos and was thinking it might be nice to see some reviews of some German brands that don't get as much UA-cam love, like Tutima, Union Glashütte, Mühle Glashütte, Laco, Damasko, and of course favorites like Sinn, Glashütte Original and even ... Lange, perhaps? 😀
Another proper review. Thanks Jenni. Cheers from San Antonio, Texas, USA.
Got the yellow one and i must say i love it! The crown is indeed a disaster to use. The clasp is cheap but i like that it is thin on the wrist. The bracelet is great.
I've never clicked so fast for a Citizen. Great review!! Thank you for comparing to the Tisot and Rolex OP.
I LOVE your accent, I love to hear you talk. In between I bought the blue version after watching your review ❤
Very affordable and very nice looking. Citizen watches are usually excellent and this is tempting! Thx!
Handsome kitty and nice review. In their defense, exhibition case base is a significant difference.
I might buy the yellow if it’s possible to swap on a black rubber strap - would be great for summer.
It is a watch that deserves to be seen up close, to be able to touch it. Great review Jenni 👍
I have the Tissot PRX Automatic and have to agree with you, the quality is indeed on a higher level. But the Civilian is a very close homage to the PRX at a slightly lower price point than the Tissot. But I do want to say, I bought my first Citizen watch for my 68th birthday, the Citizen Promaster Land Titanium with Blue dial. Movement is the EcoDrive. I keep it out on my desk when not being worn so that it stays charged from the room lights. It was a surprisingly nice watch, a perfect size for my small wrist, and seems to be finished nicely. The bracelet is quite nice too. It is a JDM so I had to order it. Price was $350 so competitive with Seiko EcoDrives. I have noticed several other Citizen JDM watches that I like that use the Miyota 9xxx movements (I have a micro-brand watch with the Miyota 9015 I'm wearing right now. The movement has proven to be one of the most accurate in my collection so far).
It’s a good start. I have a few friends that are young and have no money. They are going to love these watches. Thanks
Happy New Year - welcome back - enjoyed your content
I loved your testing methods! Awesome job
It's nice this has made it's way into the mainstream over here. I saw it last summer in a boutique in Vietnam and it was very cool.
That scientifically reliable testing part is absolutely adorable! This should be a regular 😂
the smaller propotion of its lug to diameter, actually makes it looks and wears better than prx
Thank you for the video. I am not in the market for this. But I think it is a great idea that you talk more about the braclets in the lower pricepoint watches.
Great video! =)
I love the cat test!! Never seen that before. Your the best! :)
The scientific tests swayed me to buying one. Went to the nearest Citizen shop, and found 3 available choices. Yellow, Tiffany, and the last which I ended up taking home is the NJ0151-88L. It has textured gradient blue dial with green tint on the indices instead of pure white. I find the contrast to be just on the right spot without sacrificing legibility.
I am so glad to see so many OP alternates which are great value and actually look nice. For me, the Gentleman Powermatic 80 comes the closest, though others like this Citizen are also great alternates
9:48 Jenni, nice informative review but you do give the impression here that the Tissot PRX Powermatic is just a *little bit more expensive* than the Citizen Tsuyosa. It certainly is not as *it's more than double the price.* I believe the Tsuyosa is a winner in the USD300 price range considering the features and overall value. Btw , the Tiffany blue dial one does exist but is only sold in Asia, albeit in very limited supply, for now.
Or... Just buy both!?
I just got 1 of the the blue color loving it! Amazing watch!
I just got mine in yellow for 223€ at a German concessionaire, everything available, he even ships worldwide with UPS in case of doubt (wouldn't be the first watch flying around the globe from here). For the price just extremely good, I have not regretted the purchase.
Can you tell the name of the german store? Thanks
Happy new year to you. Hope to see more videos on affordable Japanese watches.
I have the one with the yellow dial, it is my only expensive watch and I love it. A bit hard to wind because of the tucked crown. Gotta say that the advantage is that it makes the watch looks more slick and the crown isn't in the way. I wear it daily/for work. Would absolutely buy again.
Lucky to find the yellow. Impossible to buy it now.
I was deciding between the yellow dial, and the "Tiffany Blue" one. Went with the yellow dial eventually. The Tiffany Blue is more Ice Blue in person, I would say. The yellow one simply has more personality. Wonder how the white dial would look on my wrist though.
I own the white dial. Please note those are pin pushers and not screws. It has the appearance of a screw but it’s not deep enough and non functional. I almost scratched the bracelet before I figured it out. Lol
I'm waiting for the white dial version I just bought to arrive....any long term thoughts since owning yours?
If I'm not wrong, this case design was used by the Rolex Oyster Quartz first in 1977, followed by Tissot Seastar Quartz in 1978 which looks very similar like a copy (which they re-release in recent years as the PRX collection). Citizen also released a number of Eagle 7 collections back in the 80's with many different case designs, with one of them having some resembling design with the Oyster Quartz as well. This new NJ015* Tsuyosa was a re-release of one of the original designs of Citizen Eagle 7 back in the 80's.
No, it's not
It's similar, but neither the case nor the size nor the dial are the same.
In fact, even the Miyota movement is a more modern version, 8210 vs 8200
@TheChzoronzon Citizen Eagle 7 did launched an exact case design for this new Tsuyosa, probably in mid or late 80's. Of course, the case is smaller at that time, and yes, the dial design is different and at that time, they use the 8200 with day date complication. This new Tsuyosa is an upgrade version to the original in terms of a larger case size, a Sapphire glass, solid bracelet, a very clean dial design without the day & the Eagle 7 logo and a different movement with a date complication only.
@@iXus78 I can't find any case from back then that is EXACTLY the same in their old catalogues... just some SIMILAR, as I said.
But if you want to post the precise Reference, I'll check :)
Or link to a pic, if that's easier for you
Leave internet , or better don't use , you understand Exactly 0
The ”Gubel-test” Lovely 😊❤
Wow, Citizen is certainly making the rounds! 👏
I got the yellow one a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely love it
I have had my Tsuyosa for three months now. I must say I am delighted with the watch. I like every aspect of the watch, but if I could change anything, I would improve the quality of the clasp, it works well but looks ordinary. The crown is initially a little difficult, but you soon get used to it. For the price a good buy.
screw down crown or gasket? I'm thinking about getting the white dial. this watch interests me. does it wear big? I have a smaller wrist but 40mm usually sits fine enough. thanks.
This is a beautiful day-to-day watch that pulls a lot of attention. I have the yellow one, and had to steal it from the gates of hell to get it. The bracelet is indeed not the best in the world, but it does it's job and looks nice. If Citizen made the other colors available in Europe, I would certainly pick up the tiffany and the red dial ones (yes, a lot more colors exist).
The other dails are not the from the same line. But also amazing! De other colors are from the 88 line. This is the 81 line if i am correct.
Thank You Jenni...please more Citizen, Orient & Seiko :)
Blue Dial.
i love you so much! I recently just found your mamacoo and i’m in love!! Your videos are so fun and you energy is just MWAH! keep living your life
It's funny. I was just thinking to myself, "What happened to Jenni?" Then I found this video buried in my feed. I guess since you haven't posted in a while, you've become an enemy of the algos. Glad to see you're back!
Btw, if someone is interrsted in the Citizen; I would advise that they save up a little more money and buy the Tissot quartz instead.
I ordered one of these in yellow as I could not get my hands on an OP in yellow before it was discontinued. I then discovered the Christopher Ward C63 Sealander in yellow which I finally got instead of the Citizen. Yes, that one costs more, but at 36mm it has a better size for me, it‘s got a 150m water resistance, a lacquered dial with no sunburst (which I prefer for a yellow dial), etc.
All in all, I‘m very happy I spent the extra cash on the Sealander.
There’s a £400 difference between the 2 lol it’s not comparable
Citizen realised they can easily outshine Seiko by doing what Seiko refused to change based on customers' feedback 🙂
Well said.. seiko these days is overpriced and esp in india its a worthy market after 65-70k INR….
I just bought the yellow. Yellow is my lucky colour btw. Behind the glass it looked good, in hand this watch looks great. People stare at my wrist when we pass each other. I wuv it 😁❤
Great looking watch! Fantastic value.
Loved the GubeI test. 🙀 Perhaps a Seiko 5 bracelet would be a good baseline for the GubeI test?
I have the green dial and love it!
This watch is PRX killer. We can argue only about the clasp. Anything else is slightly better than PRX. I can't forgive Tissot for not being able to give us a second hand that hits the markers, in their quartz version!!!
The unfavorable critique of the clasp is an overstatement. Don't get me wrong, the clasp could be better, but I appreciate the micro-adjustment. The only thing the Prx does better is the clasp and how it fits on the wrist; the lugs on the Prx have a better angle, so it hugs the wrist better. The lugs on the Citizen are short and don't have a sharper angle, creating a small space where the bracelets and lugs connect. I don't understand why UA-camrs give PRX automatic so much hype. The movement is not even serviceable. It is a con; they try and sell you the idea that this is a watch you can pass down a few generations because the build is excellent at an affordable price, but to service these watches, all that happens is they switch out the entire movement. Modern attitudes about watches may find it acceptable to call the watch the original watch even if the whole movement was replaced and not actually serviced (fixing/replacing just the broken part.) The parts are from China. It costs about 20$ to 30$ to make.
Tiffany blue and other colors are available on asian websites (such as hong kong and singapore), where the Tsuyosas are available since mid 2021 ;)
Beautiful, in my opinion the more affordable options compared to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual and Omega Aqua Terra line. Love it 🙂👋
Very nice video Jenni. I'm looking for the yellow one everywhere at a reasonnable price. Soon or later I'll get it.
So elegant and perfect for daily use
The jellow is already available in Germany. It just has a waiting time of a few months. Yes, crazy right, waiting time for a citizen 😄
Is it pineapple, banana or lemon jello?
The yellow one was available in some EU countries in autumn 2022. I've seen it in Slovakia in October.
I've got the Cyan, Yellow and Dark Blue
Picked them up in Vietnam and Singapore
The Green looks great
i got the yellow dial one, looks stunning in direct sunlight
edit: halfway through the video, earned a subscriber
Great brand I’m a big fan of the high end super accurate quartz watches that Citizen offers. However this line is special.
Got the green one half a year ago very happy with the watch worth every penny
So nice review!!
I've both the Tiffany (NJ0151) and Orange (NJ0150) coloured Citizens and have reviewed them on my channel. The bracelet does not feel cheap, but it is a chunky bracelet that is apparent on my 6.25inch wrist. As to why certain colours not being available in the West, it really is a mystery. Perhaps they were concerned about IP issues for these colours, as the darker colours are more mainstream?
Citizen are elite .....often overlooked but make great affordable watches 👌
Jenni is so entertaining that, like the cat test, if I pay attention to the actual watch information it means I like it. So here the answer is, No thanks. But... well done, Jenni!
Just ordered it in green from Amazon. I think it looks really great on the pictures. And in this price range well I can just buy it to have a closer look and maybe return. That's definitely a plus 😂. Can't do that with swiss watches.
Actually saw this collection come up first during Christmas 2021, picked up the white dial version NJ0150-81A from a shop in Singapore, the crown really is a pain but the rest is pretty good since it was only around $220 USD at the time
Hahahahahah the noise test was absolutly superb
Tried on the black dial yesterday and it's a nice watch, even though the Tissot PRX has a better quality (but also higher price). Waiting for the yellow dial.
Citizen being around a long time and has a solid quality name with it. They produce loads of watches of all types. The Tsuyosa is at the lower end of the Citizen brand and priced at $250. I don't think it looks like a Rollex at all. Edge friction wind is not practical, over time the winding is harder to rotate. The same in my Rado Diastar and I replaced the stem for a longer stem and use a crown winder. The band is not screws but are split pins that push out. Looks like a screw head. Hope you both had a good Christmas and New Years. Best wishes for 2023.
Somehow I love my orange Tsuyosha’s bracelet. It looks good and wears very nice around the wrist.
If I were to purchase I’d go the black actually as I’m really drawn to its flatness and how it makes the appearance of the dial look smaller which I think is better proportioned with the case. For similar money I’ll be buying the quartz PRX tho, and because I don’t have a PRX yet I’ll be doing that. A black one could entice me after that purchase however.
Great video. I've been trying to get a yellow dial for a while, but it's been hard (unless you just overpay ofc).
For me I like the size of the watch on your wrist. My wife was sporting my submariner in the early 80s before it was stylish, looked great
Nice video. Thank you Jennie. I am getting the Tiffany blue today from my jeweller, although I am a rolex fan with 3 rolexes in my collection. But it good sometimes for a change. Did you ever know that the movement of the Tissot PRX is plastic!!! I was going to buy one, but when I knew about that, I switched to Citizen.
Great video, I liked the black dial.
Great review 💯
Love citizen, been considering trying out one of their automatics. Seems like their bracelets are often a little lighter than what I would like.
I purchased the Tiffany dial , a masterpiece
Thanks for the review. Seeing it on your wrist, now I'm sure it's too big for me :) Tried a colleague's PRX 40mm, it just looked silly on my wrist.
Thank you for another great video sister
I got the tiffany blue one and I’m in love with the color! I’d still trade for a prx though
Great watch and the movement is very good, the only bad thing is if you try to wind it up. Very difficult 😔
Having tried both, I agree on your take between this and the PRX however, the L2L of the PRX is way too much for the size and shape of my wrist whereas this one is only at 45 with those lugs the slope down pretty well.
Have given up on the PRX, but I might just get the Tsuyosa
Love the side to side comparison. To call this a homage bordering on counterfeit is a far stretch in my opinion. The difference in proportions is significant. The feature I especially appreciate is the angled/beveled edges of the bezel and case. I prefer it over the roundness of the Rolex. Also gives a very different look to the lugs with that integrated bracelet. The bracelet, yes, that does look alike. I am glad it does 🤤
+ of course the cyclops is very reminiscent of the oyster datejust/daydate. Love that feature too 😅
Beautiful. Waiting a eco-drive version..
Great detailed UA-cam video! 👏🏼 10/10
What would you compare the green color to? im debating this, the tiffany blue or the classic black.
This is such a beautiful watch, more desirable than the PRX in my opinion but I am not sure if they offer it in a smaller size.
There is also an all black one.
For the price and the dial colors, it a nice watch
Great videos, keep up the good work and good luck, thanks.
In Stuttgart Area, you get the yellow one since September. I got one as well - best color in these release.
