Really beautiful walkman you got there. I hope Sony will start making good cassette walkmans again at some point, because cassettes are making a comeback.
The Triggerati All depends on the deck in the end. Cassettes can sound really good, trust me. Checkout nakamichi dragon on youtube for best sound performance by a cassette deck. Even couple of sony walkmans have a really good sound quality. Ofc your cassette has to be in good shape too.
@@Badassvidsz Yeah, I've reconsidered my comment. I didn't realize that cassettes have the potential to sound so good. I guess the thing that seems so inconvenient about cassettes/tape is the rewind/fast forward aspect. Even with LPs you can skip around my moving the tone arm. I actually had a linear tracking turntable in the 80's that allowed you to program the sequence of tracks, skipping tracks, random, etc. It was pretty cool. Aiwa made good shit back then. My current obsession is trying to find an affordable MP3 or lossless portable audio player that sounds really good. I had a Cowon IAudio 7 (little brick looking thing) that sounded so awesome. It had an FM receiver, could play all the lossless codecs, the batteries lasted forever and cost about $100. I lost it and haven't been able to find one since they were discontinued.
I got mine for free from a friend 2 years ago. It came with the case, original power supply but no battery pack and no mic. Today he gave me the battery pack and the mic. Mine is one of the earlier models with the amorphous head and these are the better ones. By 1990 this badge was removed as the heads were cheaper. It's a beast, it sounds better than a lot of hi-fi decks and the portability will be nice when sitting in the sun. The analog sound makes me feel the music better. I feel sorry for mp3 people as they're getting the dreads really! The Sony D6C is a beast and the best Walkman ever made, it's the 1980s Mercedes S Class of cassette players! The recording quality with the mic is superb and many a concert was bootlegged on these machines! In good condition these are very expensive on eBay and even though mine cost me zero I'd never sell it.
Hello. Of course walkman d6c sound very quality this time year 80. my walkman d6c very good condition and no scratch. I remember that when I was little it was expensive. So far changed to mp3. Formerly it was nice to go shopping to make cassette collection. mp3 has no collection and just download free link was bad. life has changed. thank you.
What concerts did you record? I was just reminiscing about seeing Nirvana on Saturday September 22, 1990. Almost exactly 30 years ago! I met Kurt in the audience when the Melvins were playing and didn't know who he was because I didn't know who Nirvana was. I went to the show to see the Melvins, who opened for the Dwarves and Nirvana. Those surely were the days. You can see the ending song here on UA-cam if you look up 'Nirvana Seattle International Motor Sports Garage' someone apparently got some of the ending of the Nirvana set on video. Great times, before the world went to shit.
I found one at an OP-Shop for $3 Australian Dollars a person picked it up before me and put it back as she said had no power supply but i knew it ran on batteries it came with the case and strap , its serial number is 30720 its very good condition . i dont think i'll ever sell it
Found one here in Aus today, with 2 sony Mic and MDR40 headphone, in very good Condition Perfectly working for $10 ;"D ran away with joy after the purchase xD
You need test it with a pair of earbuds. Back in 1988 I had a Sony pro Wakman. Not this walkman. The unit I had was for playback only. No gimmicks! $300 CAN back in August of 1988. 20 - 19 000 hz +-3db. It only had Dolby B. Good quality 3 head tape quality on the road was a treat back then. You have a classic there. Take good care of it sir. Kids today don't realize that back then this was the height of portable use. Good walkmans were $170 and up.
God how I miss this kind of quality from modern professional audio gear. Everything is plastic and curves nowadays, and it kills me a little inside every time I remember how it used to be…
Very cool . I also have a Walkman it's not a sony but it's a Walkman, what best buy sells it plays only cd's do you use your Walkman at the office during your lunch break?
1sonyzz Hello. Yes, I have Walkman WM-20. But little sound output low 5mw + 5mw audio. Quality is not very good. simple. D6C is great but perfect sound is great quality and also tape record metal is great. Ok wm-20 is cute to collect.
Hilarious; “the groom’s so noivous he answers twice. It’s really killin’, da man’s so willin’, 4 makin’ whoopee” ... watch the fingers there bud with those box-cutters ... wheeeee!!! W8 till u check out the Wow & Flutter specs ... u will need a change of clothing👌
Ah.. I see some scuffs/paint missing from where the strap clips on to the metal hook - not so perfect ;) Many units are in excellent cosmetic condition as most units always stayed inside the case. The irony is this Walkman is probably worth more now than your whole stereo.
Hi. There are no scratches at all. Real eyes see very good walkman. The video to record shows the light looks scratch but it is not. Sending video to UA-cam does not do better. thank you
Excellent demonstration...and you are lucky to have one in this condition. It would be nice though if you told us how much it cost so we get a rough idea of price to condition ratio? Also, interact with your audience more in the comments here, otherwise it feels like you are ignoring us (You can still use Google translate and reply in Portuguese). Furthermore, I think you could have used a better cassette tape to demonstrate this. I have no idea of it is to do with the original recording quality, or that you have abused this cassette tape to death. This is one of the most expensive Metal tapes ever made, yet I have Ferric tapes that sound better than this with no drop-outs/wow & flutter. Peace.
Someone that plays that version of "I did it my way" should not have that beautiful piece of machinery. Good equipment like that should not play this man's garbage.
Really beautiful walkman you got there. I hope Sony will start making good cassette walkmans again at some point, because cassettes are making a comeback.
+Live Wire I can see vinyl making a comeback, but cassettes? Why? They are incredibly inconvenient.

Taped many concerts with my Sony D6C back in the late 80s and early 90s...A great little deck!

More quality is less noise. best music recording.

you must replace new belt. and cleanliness. it looks great
Elisio Clio the speed control unit doesn’t help either. I opened and cleaned it even replaced the belt. It’s probably speed control malfunction.

experimenting with welding helps good contact.
Elisio Clio good idea. I have soldering device and I think the speed control needs to be re-solder for better connectivity. Good idea.
So you really needed this high end walkman cassette player .. to play this crap ?!?
