I have literally never touched, used or even looked at a walkman in person. This channel has made me want to buy gameboy pockets, not it's making me want a walkman!!! Damn you!!!
I'm so glad there is another Rusted Root fan out there! I've been listening to them since I was a kid. My parents saw them in concert and bought "When I Woke" on the spot. Great Video!
I remember that song from Matilda great scene also from Ice age haha!! Shawn is the real MVP 😄 I have decided to fix my walkman after this video. I hope it will turn out okay 😊
I remember listening to Send Me On My Way as a kid when watching both those films, and the first iPod I got in year 9 had the song on it and so much nostalgia came flowing back from listening to it. It's a real diamond in the rough :)
Ever since I've started watching your videos I've fallen in love with walkmans and now I have refurbished 3 and decided to try a gameboy pocket. Ive also ordered a cheap original gameboy to fix and put in my collection (im only 16 so most people think i'm quite weird)
Man, I just found a Walkman WM-F31 in my local charity shop. Bought a couple of belts and installed them with the help of your other videos... THEN found this video which confirmed I did everything right. The insides are near-identical! Great videos! You talk about usually doing video game stuff but it's good to see these Walkmen (Plural?) have an audience.
You kinds overpaid for that. But walkman prices are shooting up. I remember seeing them for about £20 or so. This is one of the first, "cheapo" walkmans, starting the post 1985 trend that I call "the cheapenning". Previous models had double flywheels, and were more rugged all throughout.
@@americandomino3656 It started with Guardians of the Galaxy tbh. I wish I had caught on to the craze in the mid 2000's because at that point even the most saught after models were relatively cheap. Now I keep them as a retirement plan considering how crazy they pop up in price!!!!
I have the nearly identical WM-F41with a tuner, but the player internals are cheaper, with a plastic pulley instead of brass, and the motor has no foam damping pads. I would choose your model as it probably has better playback properties once regreased and aligned.
People dump on this all-plastic malaysian model (WM-31/WM-41 or WM-F31 / WM-41 or with equalizer WM-33 / WM-43 or WM-F33 / WM-F43) but in fact, consumer reports in the usa tested 25 models and this one CRUSHED all walkmans EVEN ONES FROM SONY at $100 or less! And this design-for-manufacturing model cost only $40 and could be sold in blister packs in drug stores! The high-volume and low-cost-of-assembly (only 3 screws) meant VALUE FOR MONEY! When I learned this I rushed out to buy one for every room in my house! This is a keeper! Better sound than any earlier model !!
I Just got a WM-31 which is the same as the WM-41 shown here. except for the position of the belt clip. On the type plate the type is listed as WM-31/32/41.
Right now I'm listening to Tangra II(A Bulgarian New Wave album from 1986 by Tangra II) on the same Walkman. It was hard bringing it back to life, but finally IT'S ALIVE !!!!!
Your channel is just amazing my walkman stopped working i youtubed it found your video and managed to repair it same problem u showed the belt had came off too slack but since then i been watching your videos half of day so i will be using your videos to help repair my faulty gameboys i own thanks for sharing your repairs your awesome ty
You should do the yellow water proof extra bass and radio Walkman. That is the one my dad had and he gave to me before we lost it in a house fire I’d love to get another one and refurbish it. I didn’t have it long but I have many memories with it. Thx for reading
I just finished fixing up the radio version of one of theese. It's exactly the same on the inside, exept It literally has an AM-FM radio board tacked on
Hey Elliot! I love that you did a crossover with Ashens, have you considered doing anything with Mat from Techmoan? I get the feeling you two would get on great! Just a thought. Keep up the excellent work!
Hey! Great video. I have the same walkman. The belts are faulty, but I can't find the right size to fix them. Wondering what belt size you used for your walkman?
You mIght wanna try out the WM-8 in this series of fundamentalist walkmans which runs on 4 PCS of AA batteries, outputting 35mW a channel. It will allow you to run Beyerdynamik DT990 low impedance model. I use it with my Sennheiser 414 Signature and it sounds fabulous, somehow comparable to my home decks such as Sansui SC-5300.
I didnt't knew you had a video about this model!!! I have this model too, i dont know if you still have it, i have a quick question about this model and i hope you could help me. ¿What's the factory value set on the orange potentiometer for the motor? mine was all messed up and i want to set it to the proper value (the potentiometer is on the upper left corner, next to the motor) if you could help me i will be so happy, im a fan of your channel, love your videos man!
The back lid of my wm-fx 171 fits so tightly and precisely that at first it can appear that the case is sealed. For some of you, it will take seconds to open this, and the rest, the terms of your natural lives.
From all the Walkmans I have fixed (we have the same hobby) That is the most simple and easiest fix EVER! P.S. You looking for an amazing quality "Walkman" for a decent price and amazing sound, I'd say you should get your hands on a Toshiba KT-S1 😤 Easy fix and pretty similar to the TPS-L2/WM-3 in look.
Hi sir I have a Jensen walkman. By mistake,I have used high voltage adaptor and it is not working now. Can u please repair it? Is there any chance that it can be repaired. It was my birthday present and want it in working condition. Can u pls reply
Looks very much like the UK wm31 my first ever Walkman was a wm31 got to fix mine up and I recently got a near immaculate wm31 with original speakers and original headphones still got original foams on looks unused.
Ah another walkman.... Thank you for being the ONE PERSON that does walkman repair vids like this, just wish walkmans weren't getting so expinsive! I'm thinking about a kickstarter campaign to fund a new, smaller version of the Tps-l2, if you or anyone else thinks its a good idea, let me know... Also, a challenge for you Elliot, for your next walkman, can you try to find a sony sport WM-F73 to fix? I have two that the tape decks work, but I can't get any audio from the deck, just the radio, same issue with both. You'd be the one to figure it out! :-)
Dib Irken that's a good Idea. This is just something i've been looking into with the rising prices of original walkmans, and the recent releases of cheap boomboxs and higher-quality decks that have come to market With the intrest of tape being a format again, this is something we need. But if this was going to happen I need help, ideas, (like yours) and ultimately, a team to help design this, and start the campaign... (Any Ideas RetroFuture?)
Saverio Petrocelli If you're talking about the rubber drive belts inside of the machine, you can find those on eBay pretty easily. For buying belts specific to a particular model you can go to "mihokm"s eBay store where he sells belts specific to particular models.

Buy both!
The Retro Future but the odroid as well!!!
@Rick Astley where did you find one ?
The song was featured in "Matilda".
I remember it very well from my childhood.
Ah yes I had a feeling! But forgot the name. Thanks.
Glad the package arrived safe and sound! Great video bro.
Thanks dude!
Nice to see that you guys get along that well. The origami was a nice touch.
Cool! I had this same Walkman in 1987. The best part about it was the hum I’d hear through the headphones when I pressed play, along with the hiss :-)
I'm so glad there is another Rusted Root fan out there! I've been listening to them since I was a kid. My parents saw them in concert and bought "When I Woke" on the spot. Great Video!

You got both of them! Send me a message on twitter if you get stuck!

Yup Matilda
One thing that might help with cleaning contacts is using sandpaper on them. I did it with some of my units I thought wouldnt make it but it worked
Fantastic video, thank you. Makes it all a little less daunting when it comes to repairing mine now.
this was my childhood walkman. You are right, it was a lower end model but as a kid to have a walkman was a big deal
Im purchasing this model. It abit worries me that you said Low end model but does it sound good? how long did it hold up?
@@farlord9264 it was one of the cheapest of their range. Better than modern tape players but definitely not great

Walkmans are brutally priced now
There’s an increase in sales rn because of stranger things and they are WAYYY overpriced

Clay had the older sister/brother. The wm 31 which had a horizontal belt clip. Very similar design.
It was also released in Italy/Europe under the name wm-31

quick question - what kind of industry is this in? ive been watching some reburf vids and im super interested to learn how to do some of these stuff!
Hello
Thanks for the video.
What is the size of the belts?
I have a question, What do you do with the tons of electronics you fix? I'm just curious considering you've fixed a hella lot of stuff.
Collect/sell/giveaway
Ohh, thats cool! Thanks for getting back to me :)
I just finished fixing up the radio version of one of theese. It's exactly the same on the inside, exept It literally has an AM-FM radio board tacked on
I have the exact same one and I replaced the belts but the motor isn’t running 😭 don’t know what to do maybe it’s a lost cause
I play that song, send me on my way, it's surprising how much love it gets
Aye, those Ice Age vibes! Love me some good ROOT.
Hey Elliot!

Another ace video, mate. Can you post a link for the the mini speaker that you plugged into the walkman?Cheers!
What kind of liquid did you use to clean the battery corosjon ( Need answer quick)
Dont hold me responsible, but I heard that vinigar is good for combating corrosion. I although honestly have no idea if it is true or false. Peace!.
Vinegar is a pretty good universal liquid for getting rid of gunk, corrosion and just general muck
Thank you so much!
I got the blue wm 31 yesterday with the complete box
And has never been used
Hey! Great video. I have the same walkman. The belts are faulty, but I can't find the right size to fix them. Wondering what belt size you used for your walkman?
You can find belts for any walkman by searching the model on ebay

Ey, nice! I've got the F31, which I believe is the 31 but with an AM/FM radio C:
also you made the repair look to easy. good job brother
What is the size of the belts inside this model ? Just got a Sony WM-31 today and have desided to fix it.
The song is from matilda
Ice age, it’s from that, I own the CD, it’s a good album
Rusted Root .. whoa!
Matilda is where the song is from
Would you happen to know how to fix the crackle noise when you use change the volume?
Why do they have to keep using Walkman’s in shows and movies? It’s made it impossible to buy one, they go for hundreds if not thousands now.......
i remember jamming out to slayer's south of heaven album on that
hi, what size belt did you use to repair the wm-32?
Hey! Is that Walkman available for give away or on sale, please let me know?
He said that it'd look good on his shelf, so i don't think he's giving it away
I want to get a new personal cassette player soon, great vid :)
You should! Thanks dude.

I have one of the very first Sony CD MAN but it does not work correctly but you can have it just get in contact with me
@The Retro Future
Nice video mate, are you any good with Nintendo switch? The SD card port on mine doesn’t work :(
Luckily the sd card slot is on it's own small board so it's super easy to replace.
sjm4306 ahh that’s awesome man!
i live in europe and my mom gave me the exact same one, so i think they were also released here
Hi. I have just repaired two game boys and have them a clean with retrobrite and I am about to put them on ebay for £35 if you want to know.
ICE AGE NOSTALGIA AHHHHHH
Cool Walkman
Where did you Buy the belt for it ?

Yep I know thats in Matilda, I’ve got it on a playlist
where do you buy the belts? i dont even know what search term to use :/
Awesome video as always
The song is from Ice Age
That looks pretty similar to my Walkman. Mine is a WM-F31. It has an AM/FM-radio, though. Yours doesn't seem to have that.
Nice! I have seen those!
Sir Elliot of UA-camshire, you now have a seat at the round table of the Knights of Electronics Repair.

Hey how do u fix that Walkman if the motor does not work ? X
Replace the motor!

This was strangely calming. Nice channel. New subscriber.
Thank you!
Not to keen on that show, However yet again a well done video
P.S. ever thing of dabbling in vintage computers, quite interesting stuff.
