Kenya is transitioning from a military/dictatorial oriented society into a civilian controlled one. You don't need 1, 2, 3, or 4-star generals flanking your left & right, in every one of your presidential meetings or outings.
They should only be present, when the president wants their public pronouncement, on a certain very limited military/national security issue. Or when he's having PRIVATE sessions with senior officers on urgent national security matters.
Their jobs are very different from a civilian president's job. Their job is to do what the commander in chief and the nation's constitution say and to do it with integrity, loyalty (to the constitution, not to any man, including the said civilian president: THAT is a way to get away from STRONG MAN personalities and their influence). A general's job is NOT to make the civilian president look powerful or important, like all dictators want their stooge generals make them look like.
Look at the Dear Great Leader of North Korea, that 35 year-old kid: when he speaks, he demands that there are 5 generals to his left and 5 to his right, everyone LITERALLY wearing a chest full of many DOZENS of shiny metals.
