Just found your channel a couple of months ago, I'm not a bait maker but I am a big time fisherman and love watching the process of how you make the soft plastic. I save my old stuff hoping to pass it along to someone in the future. Most definitely in my area not looking for paying to ship it to someone, although FL isn't too far from Columbus Ga. Not what I can afford though!
New guys add to much color... *side eyes DO orange* LMAO! I tend to still do this almost every time with a new color or brand. You know what I am talking about, oh not enough, not enough, still not enough, TO MUCH! ACK!
As much as we all like the cool colors and intricate open pour videos, this is what a lot of new bait makers need to see. Very informative and in depth. We’ve all made these exact mistakes at some point starting out. Experience comes with time, practice, and Chris Jones videos lol. Happy Easter.
Hey man, Thanks to you I bought a bunch of stuff to get started in soft plastics! Marling baits got me carving wood baits 2 years ago, and I've caught some nice snook, trout, redfish on some top water baits and twitch baits. I mostly use soft plastics and found your video a few weeks ago and I now have 4 silicone molds that I made, just got the angling AI jerkbait open pour and mannnnn is that sweet. I started off with the XSol plastisol from amazon... I don't think it's great. I got a gallon of the craw/tube blend from dead on coming to my house soon, both black bucket and floating blend. I was going to go with swimbait blend, but I make and use a lot of shrimp imitations and smaller 4-5" jerkbaits. Just wanted to thank you for making badass baits
Great video. You set you hot pate to 200. Was that not hot enough or did you not leave the mold on long enough. What temp do you want the molds before pouring. Thanks
Hello, I am getting started making my own soft plastic baits and have a question. What blend of plastisol should I use for worms, and what blend should I use for a creature bait.
Chris thank you, That was a very helpful video. Now I know what I been doing wrong when I'm injecting my molds. I couldn't figure out why I was constantly getting dents in my baits. And on hand pouring swimbaits what is the ideal temperature for the molds to be set at before pouring. I bought a 4" mold. And I don't want to screw it up. And Happy Easter to you and your family.
Depends too on the time of year and where you are fishing, cause i purposly make saturated baits for certain areas, but yea, its best when you can get some flake or chrome or what ever, to shine through and give it that extra Oomph.
Hi Chris, Am having trouble getting the appendages to fill on the AI bug molds. (Knuckle dragger, and punch bug) any advice? Watch your videos faithfully
Question. For the hobby lobby crowd that wants to make a silicone mold, how do we avoid the separation problems with a mold we can't heat up like an aluminum? Thanks.
Very helpful video. What do you do when it comes out a bit soft and tacky? Would you add hardener? Also took about two hours to cool down some molds, what’s the best way to cool them faster? Thanks for the awesome info.
Great video as always, very informative. What is your recommendation on laminating multiple colors in a silicone mold without getting cold cracks or de-laminating? Can you preheat a silicone mold?
Chris, thanks for the info, always got to learn. Question for you if you can give me some ideals, I have the AI 10" worm mold and the tail mold, have issues getting the worm to completely cover the tail and stay connected.
The problem I found starting out was using the right plastic. I started using saltwater or the hardest blends which was okay for single colours but try to double colours was a real problem. I ended using so much wormoil cleaning the injectors.
Hi Chris. This is exactly what happened to me in the beginning, that the different plastisols separated after the shad was ready. I was able to find out very quickly what the problem was. Plastisol oils a little when it dries. The same happens with airbrush paint. Every shad and bait that is sprayed by me with airbrush, is previously intesiv washed and degreased. Never use silicone Spray for your injector!! Especially with the Bloodline Shad mold you have this problem with the dissolving of the plastisol. I also wash the Bloodline. I also use a softer plastisol. You get more grip. This is also my favorite method. Airbrush And another thing........God save the online translator "deepl". Amen. :)). Here's to a Schwarzbier and love from Germany. Maik
Thanks again your always very helpful and I look forward to learning more from you sorry for your loss and happy Easter to you and your family Triple J Baits
I feel like you've covered this before but I can't remember which video it was, for someone starting out ambitiously looking to build a business, would you say it would be better to have a variety of molds to offer a wider range of baits or would you have a number of the same molds to increase output of baits
Again, this all bears repetition, and still good advice...colour mixing is pretty subjective, but a well mixed and bonded wins every time Love the crayon analogy, made my share of crayons 😂
Yeap, that makes a huge difference, & sense to me. To much color doesn't allow you to see any flake inside. No light penetration though the bait to show the flake. I wouldn't buy first batch & definitely would the second! Green pumpkin with blue or purple has been a favorite of mine for long
Friend of mine won a tournament on a watermelon purple Zoom trick worm.. his co-angler in the same boat was throwing the same worm except without the purple flake, did not catch a fish LOL..like wtf
@@WorldsWorstFishing that is crazy, I really like zoom magnum finness worms watermelon candy, has green purple flakes, I've been catching alot bass here in sc on them recently. Idk why but greens with those color flakes just seem to work well. Wish I had some transparent green back swimbaits with blue, purple flakes. I bet those would kill it too!

Jeez what temp do you melt your liquid to? You did all that talking and were still able to pour. I try to shoot for 250 degrees but even then if i dont stir in colors then flake and suck it up in the injector bam bam bam right after another i find it hard to push the whole injector out. OK i see you're going to 300 plus degrees. I dont know where i heard 250-275. On another youtube video. Maybe just add flake at lower temp? I remember it was something about that temp. Thanks for the knowledge.
@@skunk12 A good hot plate will maintain a temp within 1 degree. They also have magnetic mixers. Plastisol perfection in my mind. You could just keep it on the hot plate in between pours.
Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
Ok not to be a jerk but you put up the baits done the normal process with eyes in them , then took one of the ones made the flawed way and split it with your fingers that's was good to show. But you did not do the same with the ones with the eyes so now we wonder were them any better or not ?
Can I use a heat gun to heat up the molds before pouring? I'm a newbie, and I'm just researching lure/bait, making I haven't actually bought any equipment or supplies to start yet .
I see you posted your question a year ago but didn’t see that you got a response, so…I always heat my molds in a toaster oven simply because I want them to heat evenly. I hope this answers your question. Good luck
Thanks for watching!!! Happy Easter

If they come out tacky there's really nothing you can do, the ratio was off and the plastic will not be usable
Ok so I will try to blend it better on the next run. Thank you.
Both look great but from a fishing aspect there definitely are times I’d choose to use the darker color
I'd definitely buy the lighter color too, but buy the darker one for dirtier or deeper water.
What injector do you use and were do you get it?
How would you go about heating a silicone mold to do laminates?
What do you think of plaster of Paris molds

Heat gun

How about keeping the plastisol in a warmer (deep fryer, with temp control). Will that keep the plastisol viscus without burning it?

I have a question on most used glitter size??
Hey chris you need to go fishing with your baits and video it catching fish. Would be a good promotion too.
8:15 what i do about the bubbles in the plastisol, i pop them with a lighter, since i havent a vacium chamber, and it works fine too 🙂

Hey where can we buy your lures
Do you know where I can find a shooting star heating machine for sale anywhere.

Thanks 🙏🙏👍
