Jeff, you have changed my life! I'm allergic to yellowjackets and so I've always been scared of any flying thing with a stinger. Well, a couple of unseasonably warm days just up the road from you in Little Rock, I noticed a lot of honeybees flying around looking for food (we already had out first frost). Instead of getting scared, I mixed up some sugar water for them and laid it out for them. Within 30 minutes there were dozens and it was the most fascinating thing I've done in a while. Three days of feeding before it got cold again and I think I'm hooked!
I always say the world need as many beekeepers as it can get, and I can hardly wait for the day when you join the ranks. Keep up your good works! Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Oh, thank you for your reply! Knowing that Tyrone’s experience as a new beekeeper will be better because of your help lifts my heart. I was concerned. Love to you and Mona
I heard something interesting not to long ago, said scientists believe bee stings can help with reducing cancer cells. I don't know how true it is since I haven't looked much into it since I ran across that, but given all the other things bees are capable of I wouldn't doubt it in the slightest.
Not happy camper bees. Funny. The owner was very generous to make sure the bees got saved before salvage. Still good people out there. Have a good weekend Jeff

I half expected to see some moth damage too. Especially with them being in that location for such a long time. So, perhaps these more aggressive bees not only chase the beetles out, but moths too. Great video guys! Looking forward to more. -Jeff and Diane
Amazing video and what a hive!! I don't know if that is the largest and oldest hive you and Charlie have removed but has to Bee in the top 5. God Bless!!!

How long of a horizontal hive would you need to frame all that comb?...6 or 7 feet, wow! It looked like you guys earned it with grumpy bees. Thanks for sharing
You know the bees are Mad mad when they go for the camera 😂 I’m kidding but another great removal and excellent camera work by good time Charlie. Thanks for the education and wholesome entertainment.
Definitely looked difficult but man a lot of that comb look the perfect size for a deep frame. Good bless you and Charlie and hope we see Wreck’in Rob again. My girls are looking strong going into winter, hope to send you some South Shore Long Island Honey from Capt Brian’s Bees next year. 🙏 God’s Peace Brothers.

Great job on this removal. I wonder how many generations of bees have lived there. 🧐 Massive hive and yet you still found the queen. Praise Jesus 🙏😊💕👍👏
I've slid a piece of cardboard under the comb and taped my knife to a pole. I cut the comb and let it lay on the cardboard to slide it out one piece at a time. Any way you do it its not a easy job. That's a huge hive!!!! Nice brood pattern! One heck of a job!! Thanks! Charlie has a "Banana Eye!!" LOL!!!
I've used 1/4 inch plywood and done the same thing, a very good method, but cutting the floor is always easier. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Yes it certainly was, and a lot of fun doing the removal. Glad you enjoyed watching, and thank you for doing so. Until the next one, God's peace. Mr. Ed
I love watching you and Charlie work, extremely entertaining. That’s a gigantic bee hive for sure. Thank God you were able to get the job done safely. Great job as usual.
It certainly is up there, but still not the biggest I've ever done. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Sandy. Mr. Ed
Once again, loved your video. Amazing to me how you find so many swarms & removals. Not that way here in SE Missouri. Wanted to ask if you and Dirt Rooster and Mike Barry if are still attending the 2024 Sieverville Bee Conference. I was willing to travel from Missouri, mostly to meet you 3-guys. Since the foolishness over Kamon Reynolds began, I need to know if you still plan to attend. Please respond and let me know.
Talk about fun and adventure with a few stings. I am so jealous! You guys are ROCK/COUNTRY/etc STARS in my world! Truly AMAZING and handled with such GRACE! I LOVE YA"LL!💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏p.s. its deer season in my ole neck of the woods....Bee safe!
You maybe not gettin too old for that.... but hauling that 150 pounds out, kinda whupt ya. Two 5 gal. containers of bees! That's the most ever I've seen you wrangle!
Wait till next Friday's post, it's all about the honey that came from this hive. Now that's really sweet, stay tuned. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
I will agree with you about temperament, our meanest bees don't begin to compare with Africanized bees, and I'm so glad we do not have them here. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Check out the video link below, it's a few of my larger ones from the past. But this year I have done at least 4 of them this large, but the entire hive did not come out in one piece. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed ua-cam.com/video/3PItsOrxWVU/v-deo.html
I want to say, I know people are afraid of temperamental bees, and I understand why. But if I was a beekeeper, I'd like to have a colony or two with a little bit of feistiness, because as you said, they will defend their hive.
I am delighted to hear you understand my point. To often the quality of "gentleness" is prized in a bee hive, I for my part appreciate when bees are defensive as this genetic trait will be to their advantage.
Thank you Andrew, and thank you for watching as well. Also, I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Question for you Jeff. What does 150 pounds of honey equate to in gallons of honey? Or Tyrone wants1 gallon so alternatively what is that in pounds? Looking forward to the separation video next week . This was a fun video this week . Thank you Jeff.
There are 12 pounds of honey to a gallon, but just because the hive weighed over 150 pounds does not mean it was all honey. Stay tuned for next weeks post to see exactly how much honey came from this hive. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Maybe they are Russian bees. I had some of those for awhile and they were ALWAYS angry. They made a LOT of honey but I was glad when they finally left.
You all had the number right about how long it would take. You just had the time unit wrong. Looks like it was a 2 day job not a 2 hour job. That was a huge hive. I am surprised you didn't mess up you back. See you in January. God Bless.
The bees we vacuumed the first day did spend the night in the vac, and because our temps were so mild and the vac body was vented on both sides, another innovation of the Everything Bee Vac, the bees did great. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Jeff, If you had to remove the hive over two days, are the bees you'd vacuumed on day one in any danger for having to spend extra hours in the vac? Also, there didn't seem to be any new comb at all in that hive, is that unusual? Always fascinated by your videos, have had a lifelong phobia for stinging insects, which you help calm every time.
The bees that were vacuumed the first day were just fine spending the night in the bee vac. Because it was vented on both ends, air circulated through it not allowing the bees to overheat. Plus, our temps were very mild, in the 60's. The newest comb was at the rear of the hive and was full of honey. Happy to hear my videos calm your anxieties a bit, keep up the good work. Thanks for watching. God's peace Andrew. Mr. Ed
Loved the video. Those bees were angry and did not stop fighting!! It is amazing that you guys do not get many stings from those bees! I always enjoy spending time with you and your friends!
Denise, the honor is mine when you spend your time watching our adventures, thank you so very much for doing that for me. In truth, we have so much fun making these videos and sharing the experience we have doing them. Until the next one, God's peace. Mr. Ed
I did not discourage him as he was to excited to begin. The attitude of these bees changed when I brought them to the abbey for the week. I think the change of scenery as well as the influx of new comb I introduced to them may have had an effect. I plan on doing a follow up on these bees very soon, stay tuned. Thanks for watching. That sure is one fine haul that you 3 worked out there Mr. Ed!! Even with all the damage of Katrina, there is still a benefit to be found after all this time has passed. And in the process, is it possible another bee keeper has been born? Just the design and construction of this hive shows a dimension of natural beauty. How long would it take a bee to enter and to reach the inner areas of that hive? Just the weight of this hive alone was very impressive. Now I am looking forward to the wax and honey portion of this hive that continues to give up its goodness. Another very enjoyable video Mr. Ed!! -Bob...

2 stings would put me in the ER. I am so allergic to bee venom. Once stung on the foot the pain and itching was horrible. Then I was stung on the hand and I nearly passed out. My arm swelled to twice its size. When I went tot he ER they asked if I was snake bit. I said no just a bee. They gave me epinephrine and benadryl in a shot. That works faster. Thankfully we were not far from the hospital when it happened. My lungs were still working. But the doc said if I get stung again I would have an anaphylactic reaction. I hope none of you has any bad reactions to stings. But if I were stung I wouldn't be talking about it. God bless you for finding the queen. She looked so small considering all the eggs she laid. Have a blessed weekend.
You best take care of yourself JJ especially around bees and other stinging critters. Thank you so much for your blessings and for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff You guys are supermen to me. I would not even be able to do that with a bee suit. But you guys act like it is just a little mosquito bite. I am reactive to those too. You reuse and keep alive bees the one animal that makes food we eat and they can eat it too. We pray for all of you.
Jeff,Jeff,Jeff. When are you going to take Randy's advice... "smoke-um till their eye's water" what a hive. I had to take a breather after you two flipped that comb onto that table, I thought for sure that table was going to crumble

Any thoughts on why Africanized bees haven't invaded Louisianna and the rest of the deep south. After all they're in Texas and Florida. Seems like they would prefer yall's climate to the desert southwest, which they've taken over, since they originated in the tropics.
I really have not the slightest idea why they are not here, but for whatever the reason, I'm grateful for it. Thanks for watching. God's peace Darrell. Mr. Ed

I'm not too keen on the terms aggressive, mean, or hot unless they are genuinely Africanised and will chase you right down the road. I much prefer the term defensive, because it is fairer to the bees, who are, of course, only defending their home - they have no idea that they will be getting moved into another one which may even be better for them, and you generally don't know if something has been frequently bothering them, which would lead to more defensive behaviour. In this case, with a colony so close to the ground, they may have been getting regularly predated on by a skunk of something, as I know skunks are most nocturnal and patrol their territory looking for food by night, which unless you have a trail camera set up, you wouldn't be aware of. Frederick Dunn did the experiment on the height above ground which is necessary to avoid the skunks pestering, which they do by scratching on the landing board and front of the hive and chewing up all the guards that come out in response, and I seem to recall 36 or 38 inches being the height beyond which the skunks have to stretch too far and expose a lot of sensitive underbelly to being stung, which is the only place where they are sensitive enough for it to put them off. I didn't pay close attention because we don't have any predators like that in the UK, where I am, so it didn't really matter too much to me. But I have noticed that particularly feral hives at low levels seem to be generally more defensive, so putting them on a hive stand may well calm them down a lot, as they wouldn't be bothered by predators as much. Another thing I've noticed is that particularly for backyard beekeepers with only a few hives, keeping them inside a chicken run is a great defence against SHB, as the larvae need to pupate in the ground, where chickens scratch them up and eat them. I've yet to see a serious SHB infestation in a hive surrounded by chickens.
I enjoyed warching the rest of the story. Glad you were doing that and not me. L O L. I enjoy watching your videos. Have a great day, and take care my friend.Keep the great Videos coming my friend.
A steady diet of sugar water and there will be no problem at all. Hopefully I'll be able to get an update of this hive in the future, stay tuned. Thanks for watching. God's peace Brad. Mr. Ed
Over the years, i have noticed that testy bees are usually more productive, and have have fewer pest than gentle bees. As long as I can work them i tolerate them, but if they become too bad there is going to be an execution. I enjoyed the video, God bless.
The comb is so dark due to age, probably over 6 years, and the traffic of the bees walking across it. Bees are notorious for never wiping their feet before entering the hive. Brand new comb is the color of snow, but with age, it darkens and if old enough, like it is in this case, turns almost black.
Mr. Ed
Huge colony of bees! Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Jeff is this the biggest hive you removed? Love From Michigan and it's a beautiful evening. GOD BLESS You and Your Family also Good time Charlie.
It certainly is up there, but still not the biggest I've ever done. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Sandy.
Mr. Ed
That is the BIGGEST hive I think I have seen you do!!!!! I love the excitement you have when finding the queen. God Bless Mr. Ed. Keep em coming.
All three of us will be in Kentucky for Kamon's Expo, I hope I can meet you there. Thanks for watching. God's peace David.
Mr. Ed
Oh yea, it whooped me good. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
❤❤ that was one sweet removal 😅😅😅
Wait till next Friday's post, it's all about the honey that came from this hive. Now that's really sweet, stay tuned. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Those bees look gentle compared with the Africanized bees we have out here in Southern California!
I will agree with you about temperament, our meanest bees don't begin to compare with Africanized bees, and I'm so glad we do not have them here. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
I’m curious if that is one of the largest bee removals you have ever done. Good job. Very interesting.
Check out the video link below, it's a few of my larger ones from the past. But this year I have done at least 4 of them this large, but the entire hive did not come out in one piece. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
ua-cam.com/video/3PItsOrxWVU/v-deo.html
I want to say, I know people are afraid of temperamental bees, and I understand why. But if I was a beekeeper, I'd like to have a colony or two with a little bit of feistiness, because as you said, they will defend their hive.
I am delighted to hear you understand my point. To often the quality of "gentleness" is prized in a bee hive, I for my part appreciate when bees are defensive as this genetic trait will be to their advantage.
Jeff, Charlie, and Tyrone, good going on all of you!!
That is my guess as to what kind of bees they are. Thanks for watching. God's peace Scott.
Mr. Ed
You all had the number right about how long it would take. You just had the time unit wrong. Looks like it was a 2 day job not a 2 hour job. That was a huge hive. I am surprised you didn't mess up you back. See you in January. God Bless.
See you in Louisville Phillip. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Did the bees spend the night in the bee vac?
The bees we vacuumed the first day did spend the night in the vac, and because our temps were so mild and the vac body was vented on both sides, another innovation of the Everything Bee Vac, the bees did great. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff It seems like a well thought out vac, for sure.
Jeff,
If you had to remove the hive over two days, are the bees you'd vacuumed on day one in any danger for having to spend extra hours in the vac?
Mr. Ed
Jeff, I would hope you discourage the homeowners if they’ve never raised bees, from keeping this particular hive. Mean bees is not the way to start
God's peace Diana.

Ed!! -Bob...
You are in luck Bob, next weeks video is all about the honey from this hive, get ready. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.

I've had a few of those spicy sky raisins myself, not to my liking at all! Thanks for watching. God's peace Larry.

Dang that was dark honeycomb! How long do you think the bees were in there? Great job!
This hive has been in the trailer for at least 4 years, and the homeowner is very happy they are not in there now. Thanks for watching. God's peace Kimberly.

@@JeffHorchoff You guys are supermen to me. I would not even be able to do that with a bee suit. But you guys act like it is just a little mosquito bite. I am reactive to those too. This year being so many days over 100 there were no mosquitoes where we live. Up in the foothills perhaps. Not here.
We did smoke them until MY eyes were watering and it still did not do the trick. A heavy hive for sure. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ed.

Good one 😅
Any thoughts on why Africanized bees haven't invaded Louisianna and the rest of the deep south. After all they're in Texas and Florida. Seems like they would prefer yall's climate to the desert southwest, which they've taken over, since they originated in the tropics.
I really have not the slightest idea why they are not here, but for whatever the reason, I'm grateful for it. Thanks for watching. God's peace Darrell.

Mr. Ed
Mr Ed, maybe you should get Mona to make you & Charlie a T Shirt that says “We Rescued the Mean Queen”.
Always a great video. Enjoy wTching each one thank you

A steady diet of sugar water and there will be no problem at all. Hopefully I'll be able to get an update of this hive in the future, stay tuned. Thanks for watching. God's peace Brad.
Mr. Ed
The last time I heard "Tyrone, you ready to grab that thing?" it was a much different kind of video.
Over the years, i have noticed that testy bees are usually more productive, and have have fewer pest than gentle bees. As long as I can work them i tolerate them, but if they become too bad there is going to be an execution. I enjoyed the video, God bless.
Why is their comb so brown? Is it just really old and dirty?
The comb is so dark due to age, probably over 6 years, and the traffic of the bees walking across it. Bees are notorious for never wiping their feet before entering the hive. Brand new comb is the color of snow, but with age, it darkens and if old enough, like it is in this case, turns almost black.
