- I while back, reviewed the UnbelievaBun hamburger bun and found it to be the best keto overall bread product that I've tried. I also liked the hotdog bun, but not quite as much.
In this video, I put the UnbelievaBun hoagie roll to the test in terms of taste, texture and blood glucose response. I try it first as garlic toast, then I see how it holds up to a big serving of crab salad.

I had originally planned on publishing this video on April 24th, and I sent it out early to my paid channel members. Then I found out that UnbelievaBun wasn't going to have enough inventory to cover potentially orders. Rather than have a situation like we did with the burger buns, where people weren't getting their orders for several weeks, I decided to push this video's release back by a couple of weeks.
*Also, something I want to be very clear on for the folks who haven't tried UnbelievaBun products:* There is a chewiness/sponginess/springiness to them that some people don't care for. On thicker products, like these hoagie rolls, it is more noticeable. That said, after toasting them, griddling them, or baking them (they make wonderful garlic bread/toast) the texture becomes far more similar to traditional bread.
Lastly, because these products are baked fresh without preservatives, they are shipped frozen via 2 day priority. As such, the further you live from their bakery on the east cost, the higher the shipping will be.
I tried the UnbelievaBun hamburger bun tonight. I tested glucose and ketones before eating a cheeseburger on grilled bun with mayonnaise. I only drank water. I tested glucose and ketones before eating and then every 30 minutes for 2 hours. Before eating glucose 80, ketones 1.1; - 40 minutes glucose 108, ketones .6 - 60 minutes G: 104, K: .4, - 90 minutes G:101, K .3, - 120 minutes, G:95, K:.3. Any suggestions on why my glucose went so high and kicked me out of ketosis? I will say, the bun was delicious. I may retest just the bun next week. My poor fingers ☝🏻

I love their hamburger buns. Steaming them and then toasting them after being in the freezer worked awesome. These buns look awesome for a good Italian sandwich or Philly cheesesteak 😋

I appreciate all your product reviews. When I am able to splurge on a low-carb item, I always check to see what Steve says about it.
I think unbelievabuns are the greatest thing since sliced bread, or they would be if they sliced it! My Wife agrees that without toasting they're too spongy. I'm fine with them either way, but toasting is best. I hope Jerrod makes a bloody fortune. This diabetic can eat bread again. I'm on a subscription!

I had to go to an event 4/27 and they served subway. I brought my own bun (one of these) not toasted and swapped my ham and cheese into it. Brought my own mayonnaise and peperoncinis. It was awesome

I caught one of these packs on preview and have made some very satisfying subs. The overstuffed Italian sub in their newsletter a few weeks ago was my handy work. I will second your comment that these buns stand up to some serious keto action 😂 I also made a pretty messy steak and cheese sub and the bun did not disintegrate either. I have an order coming for 2 more packs. Also, I've emailed Jerrod a couple times, mostly just to send praise, but he's a very pleasant person and tries to respond to everyone from what I can tell.
Agree with your comments about sponginess. I felt that way with the burger bun when adding ketchup, mayo or any sauce that being said, I like take the sponginess to finally have a burger bun.
I made meatball subs using the hotdog buns. The fact that they were hole-y helped. Maybe that will work with these buns too.
I feel that any of these buns can handle bulking fillings (and actually benefit from them). I'm sure a meatball sub would be awesome!

Those look so good...sadly gluten wrecks my knees and causes great inflammation in my joints. For peeps with no gluten issues though, what a great product!! Thanks for sharing Steve!!
Thanks Steve. We are still impressed with their product. I do steam mine after they thaw from the freezer. Looking forward to the experiments with the flour. I vote for muffin and pancake recipes.
So these can be frozen, and come out the other side in good shape? The free shipping might be nice, but freezing would probably be required, then.
@@DisneyBatchman When I order I get 3 packs of both hot dog and hamburger buns. So they have to go into the freezer. I feel they freeze very well. There may be a small hard spot after thawing but wrapping in a damp paper towel and microwaving 15 secs makes them soft. We only consume them about 2 to 3 x's a month. Like Steve said when they are not toasted they do have a little bit of chew to them but I am grateful that I don't feel that rise/fall in my blood sugar like I would with regular bread.
Been forever since I've had garlic bread!!!! I need this in my life! I do enjoy my Unbelievabuns so ai can't wait to try these ones, looking forward to making garlic bread and with chicken salad!!! Thx Steve!

Unbelievabuns are by far my FAVORITE Keto product. I agree that I tend to prefer them griddled as well. I've been using mayo to griddle them and it works even better than butter!

Hopefully they are able to get a bakery out west! Almost $15 for shipping on my $18 order is astronomical 😮.
The bread is made fresh, with no preservatives. It is shipped frozen via 2-day priority shipping. The further you live from the East Coast, the higher the shipping. That's not UnbelievaBun's fault. They are trying to find a bakery out west so that shipping is more reasaonable.

Once again I bought a product based on your review. I did buy the hamburger buns before because of your video. Shipping was kind of steep. Would be nice if they had a bakery in MN or Midwest. I have been making the lupin bread that utilizes oat fiber and vital wheat gluten for my husband Andy. These things don't bother him but gluten and I don't get along. I'm ok with that because I was never much of a bread person even prior to keto. Have a good one Steve
I need to compare the ingredients to "Diedre's bread". The texture is very similar.
Steve... I had the Flatbread Pizza Dough last night from Unbelievabun. Made homemade pizzas 2 ways, one I prebaked for crisper crust and the other straight out of bag. Both were loaded with same ingredients, had couple slices from each one and my Glucose actually dropped 2 points after hour.

Great video. Free shipping on the East Coast even on smaller orders. Can't wait for the bread and pizza crusts to be in stock. I dont eat many bread products but to keep my hubby low carb he needs bread. The hoagie rolls look like the ticket. I will order more hamburger buns once I can find more freezer room as those were good. I didn't love the hot dog buns which is the one roll I would really love.

Thanks, Steve. I totally agree with toasting them, it is a must. I have been using the hot dog buns for cheesy garlic bread and it comes out really good. Do you find the hoagie rolls taste any different than hotdog or hamburger buns?
They taste the same, but the size makes them feel more natural for garlic bread.
Hopefully in the near future products like this will be available countrywide without breaking the bank. In the meantime I guess I'll make my own bread or do without. 🤷♂️

Unbelieve - a - Price.... 30.00 for 2 bags of hamburger buns and 1 bag of Hot Dog buns plus 10.47 shipping ? Sorry but thats a bit much as are a lot of the items related to Keto. Are we trying to help people here with their diets ? Sorry but some of the prices I see for Keto related products are nothing short of price gouging the hell out of folks. Steve thank you for all you do !! Obviously you are providing a service for us all by reviewing these products but lets face it some of this stuff most people in these times just can't afford .

As I said I think the service you provide on your channel is awesome in every way. I should have made a general statement on over all prices of Keto Products not singled this one out or the video you produced. Its obviously your goal to evaluate a product not create the price point for it. So you have to be honest in the direct review and the over all health benifits and also whether the product fits the Keto diet and you did and always do a great job with that. Its really not up to you to figure out what people can and can not afford you just do the review and let people make thier own decisions on what they can afford. I hope I did not give you the wrong impression. I take your videos very seriously (lol no pun intended) and I consider them a huge part of my Keto diet. So thank you for all you do and lets hope someday these companies will help out a bit with the pricing. I did purchase these buns so my post was not for what I can or can not afford I was just thinking of others in the hard economic times we currently face.

That is one LARGE sandwich!! I'm full before your first bite. Do you think the fat in the crab salad blunted the glucose response? (I'm not being picky, just curious.) The garlic buttered buns look delicious!
Based on the glucose tests I’ve done on their other products, I’d say probably not much. I also had a serving of asparagus in that meal, so there were more carbs. Still, 5 mg/DL of movement is nothing for a bun that size.
Steve, if you haven’t already, I recommend you listen to the latest Huberman Lab podcast with Casey Means. It’s all interesting imo but the last hour has some particularly good stuff on CGMs and glycemic response. She seems to think that blood sugar should be back down to baseline within 2 hours of eating.
I don’t disagree. That’s why I give a 2 hour continuous measurement in my videos.
I wish some of this stuff was available in Canada
I personally crave for the chew like you get with a fresh bread so it would be a bonus for me - just the shipping to AZ kills it for me. Maybe if I move to Georgia I might get to sample them :)

Thanks for another keto bread video, Steve. Of all of the things my wife and I miss on keto, bread is #1. We are always glad to see another review and BG test from you in hopes of finding the perfect solution. We've found one we like: Extraordinary Bites ZERO net carbs made with avocado oil. You've done a video on the EB one and two net carbs versions. I will post what we found in the comments to that video later. Looking forward to trying these hoagie rolls (we call them hoagies in NJ where I am originally from, too) if we can find them here in FL. #giveaway.
I have only ever found the EB products ONCE. That was after searching 4 different Wal*Mart stores. I haven't seen them since...

Ordered hamburger buns and they aren’t cheap but I knew that when I ordered them. Two buns had huge sink holes in them… as if a rock was on them when they baked. Mentioned to Unbelievabuns and they blew me off.

How did you contact them? Was it via email? Can you give me more details about how they blew you off and who it was at the company?
A local restaurant chain used to carry the UnbelievaBun in the restaurant and for only $1 more, you could swap it out for your burger. Unfortunately, they no longer carry them and I was so sad.

They actually recommend you freeze them (they're shipped frozen). They will keep for a year in the freezer or 2 weeks in the fridge.

Not yet. I plan to experiment with the flour in May.

The first think I'll probably do is see if I can make a legit (seemingly non-keto) breading for fried chicken. From a cost perspective, I can't see using this to make something like bread.

You put stuff on that I have never heard of before. I’ve never heard of putting crab salad on bread which I’m very allergic to it anyway and wouldn’t do it but that’s interesting I also have never heard of putting mozzarella on bread. I’m wondering how do you like it compared to hero. I love the hero products. I am west coast and I get my hero bread really fast cause it’s in California.

I have tried both products, Hero's bread and Unbelievabun's buns. I greatly prefer Unbelievabun for taste and texture.

I think with all the gluten, they are probably going to be chewier than I'd like. I think my first test will be seeing how it works to create southern style fried chicken coating.
