I like the Xotic SP a little better. The Keeley gives you more to adjust. There are mini switches inside the Xotic SP which can change up things too. I have the Xotic SP and I am very pleased with it. Keeley makes great stuff. I also, chose the Xotic for the compact size.
I have SP and Cali76CD ( the best Compressor) The factory default SP settings is good but not the best ! It can be more transparent and better if you switch the second internal button to UP position and the third button to down position ( less atack and more highs ) It will become one of the best Compressors ever !
Great video, I also agree with the other comments. The sp was a little noisier, but had that great squished quality to it, and with my eyes closed I could always tell when you went to the keeley because of how brittle it sounded. About a year ago I thought long and hard over these two pedals, this video just further confirms I made the right decision. I've loved my sp and have no complaints. I also know, given the right set up, the keeley can sound great too, just have to be willing to fork out the $$$
Great vid. I wish you would go back to the non-compressor sound a bit more. I scrolled the video back and forth a few times to compare what the pedals did to the sound. the Keeley is very transparent and I didn't heard much coloring besides the compression and volume change. The SP sounds fuller, probably from mixing the wet and dry. I am leaning toward the SP because I like the coloring it adds. Not sure that's actually a good thing for a compressor though.
The keeley is overly priced to make up to be an elite compressor or supposedly the best compressor at one time. SP takes the win with much more to be had, the dry mix is freaking awesome. I have boosts, ODs , and more. In my years of listening to compressors, SP is one clear winner over other compressors.
shnobel Is there any way you could do a shootout between the keeley 4 knob compressor and the walrus audio compressor? Or at least explain the difference between the two?
Excellent demo, as always, and both are great pedals. However, the demo really highlights an obvious (to me) difference: the SP sounds sweeter, more 'musical', while the Keeley definitely sounds more sterile, even a bit brittle I'd say.
Not really...the Keeley does sound excellent but you seem to be hearing more with your eyes rather than your ears...the price tag rather than the actual sound.
PS - The reason I'm saying this is because I A/B'd both these pedals in the shop and taking into consideration the compression you have on youtube the actual real in your ears sound was not that significant so I went with the SP...not that the Keeley isn't great, but in actuality they sound much more similar than they do here.
Even though I love my C4, have to say that the SP takes the win here. The C4 does a couple of things very well (boosting into a dirt pedal and, in my experience, "taming" some of the least desirable aspects of a neck humbucker on a LP/SG or similar), but tweaking it is something of a "dark art". His Comp+ is more versatile.

i'm about to buy me a compressor pedal. the sp was my first choice. now i'm convinced it's a good idea.

I have a Diamond, Cali 76 cd and Rcomp Vick Audio. Today I bought a Keeley 2 Knobs and is excellent ! Better than Diamond

OK so apparently, these pedals only work with a strat or a tele?
Because a humbucker has no need for the compressor/boost?
bluesguitarman 77 i use it with both. My tone on a humbucking guitar is incomplete without my compressor (SP).
SP is much better running with 12 V
keeley is better ! More transparent like diamond compressor !
