Compressor is the secret sauce on your cleans. Even works on edge of breakup. Years of playing country finally convinced me of this. It is a very hard pedal to learn but well worth the effort.
Hey Rabea, thanks for the lesson! I've been using compressor for decades and love the sound but you taught me new things! And, I'm in the market for a Keeley Comp, so you sold me on the mini!
Fair play for advising this is a sponsored review - not enough You Tubers do this. Excellent review and full explanation of the mysteries of compression!
Keeley became famous with his compressors, and never failed to deliver. I have the Keeley Compressor Pro and it's ALWAYS ON. The best compressors: Keeley compressors. PERIOD!
That Strat right there, the first time I saw you playing it, changed my entire opinion on gold pickguards. Oh what id give for a troposphere custom shop sunburst strat with a gold pickguard.
I use my Keeley Compressor plus as an always on effect for blues/rock. Before overdrive with the volume quite high to push the drive pedal. Compression and blend quite low. Not sure if I’m using it right but it sounds good to me!
Exactly the vid I was searching for, examples of compression in front of a few different gain settings with the same guitar and player. Thanks for ripping Rabea🤘
Great video! I’ve never used compression before and never knew much about compression, but this video just sold me on getting one of these pedals! Thanks, Bea!
10:00 This is where I start fine-tuning the compression back and forth while pushing the level. 11:15 Add a wah after the compressor and you get that Ritchie Blackmore in-your-face scratch. Compressors taught me how to play an amp as an instrument in its own right. (:
For years I did use them and once I bought a Keeley and then a Cali 76 and many more since, I realized what I was missing. Once I learned all studio producers use compressors on pretty much every album ever made, I knew there was a good reason. The boost the level and add so much sustain. Everything pops but main the sustain is the best part. Set the right way, you get endless sustain.
Great demo! I often struggle to hear the difference with compression on/off, but having one really changes the way I play. It's like a confidence pedal! But it's so hard to demo that change in feel. Interesting the Compressor Plus is cheaper than the Mini at the moment. THere are clear reasons to go either way, though. Features vs simplicity vs footprint vs power usage....
QUESTION: how much does attack matter? And where do you set yours most of the time???? I'm just learning to dial in my mxr custom comp with its internal attack and trim pots
@@tonesofhome69 Yes, you can combine with pre-amp pedals. Experiment with placing the pre-amp before and after the compressor mini, to see what works best for you. If you use the pre-amp as a boost pedal, place it after the comp mini.
@@RobertKeeleyTVWow thatś what I call customer service, a reply from Robert Keeley team, thatś real feedback, I Will buy Keeley products just for that.
unfortunately this is common with compressors in a signal chain - by adding the compression thus reducing the dynamic range, you end up bringing your noise floor up as well as peaks down. So any hum could end up more present in the sound.
The further towards the end of the chain the compressor is placed the more likely there is to be hiss in the signal. The compressor is making the quiet stuff louder, and so any tiny amounts of noise are amplified by the compressor. I tend to use them early on in the chain to compress my signal straight from the guitar and the hiss is not increased at all.
I was a bit hesitant but after I tried one I was sold. I use the Keeley Compressor Pro a lot for recording but don't have the board space for it, the mini just works :)
I feel this was a lame move on Keeley's part. Pedals like this to me are indicative of two things: marketing to ignorance (therefore perpetuating it), and a waste of Keeley's resources for a momentary cash grab. LEARN HOW TO USE A COMPRESSOR. SRSLY IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT. The form factor is the only good thing about this concept to me, but does this really stack up to an Xotic, for example? The mini version of that one has a bit more control. I'm really gonna have to go with the "ain't broke, don't fix it" cliche here. The Keeley Compressor+ is still enjoying resale numbers just over $100, cheaper than this mini, so what's the point of this other than size? Players who really care about tone know that sometimes sacrifices and accommodations must be made, quite different from those who sacrifice tone for pedalboard real estate. I feel like this a dumbing down of their bread and butter. Lots of these are already quickly showing up used on Reverb by players who are either disappointed somehow, or from the long line of dummy guitarist who only think of compressors as a needlessly complicated volume pedal because they can't stop playing hacky blues licks for a half hour to learn something crucial like compression.

Nah, baritone with humbuckers.
Guess it depends on the day... and application !

The Keeley 4 knob has been a staple on my board for years, I won't play without it. This little 2 knob sounds amazingly good.
I've got a Keeley pedal that I use quite frequently. A compressor was definitely a game-changer when it came to ease of playing and recording!

Never really thought much about compression until I bought my Keely GC-2. Night and day difference.
Ive always had my compressor as first in the chain. Now i gotta try it after my drive pedals thanks!

Was just questioning if I should get a compressor
Perfect timing
Thank you my good man

Love that sound & playing dude! Thank you!!! 🇺🇸
That was actually an incredibly useful video ! i will be spending more time playing with these for sure now !
I love the compression pedal I use it all 99% of the time on my board with a ta delay rabea 👍👏👏
Dude, you always have the sickest guitars.
Your first Keely compressor+ video is how I found out about you! Cool that we came full circle :)
I can't live without compression on my clean sounds. It just gives them spice
Strat + Comp = GOLD

I was thinking about selling my keeley compressor, but I’m gonna try putting it after my drives and try some of your methods and see what happens!
Is it similar to the dyna comp pedal by MXR?
hey Rabea!, Incredible video, I've been watching your videos for a while, very very helpful videos my man, thank you so much!
How does the Keeley mini comp compare to the SP xotic comp?
Intersting use in the loop, I never thought using it this way.
I've been thinking about buying a compressor for some time but wasn't sure if it's worth it, I wasn't aware of all the ways to use it. Thanks!

Question - do you still work the guitar volume knob with a compressor to clean up the sound??
Wicked video. But this or the plus I’m torn? Thanks
in the second application is the compressor before or after the overdrive? I didnt get it.
Loved the shirt!
I only use it on cleans in a sort of funk enviroment. Deffo will try it eith crunch. PS nice tshirt.
Tone as always my man
Where to place the compressor when using a noise gate/suppressor? Thanks 🙏
Excellent.
can you tell use how you recorded your guitar? it sounds so good!!!
I use multiple compressors for recording and concur with you on simple live vs not simple recording.
Would you recommend using this along with a boost? I use the Jhs prestige
It goes at the end of your chain always right?
I got a compressor pedal for metal ( I run a gate quite high) but it just runs idk hot super hissy or hot if you will
It's the overdrive for your clean tone.
Rabea where's the Boss IR200 demo?
What’s the guitar that youre playing and what pickups are on it? I love them and am looking for them
honestly just looks like some strat custom shop stock pick ups
man how did you record your guitar it's sounding great!
that pedal has a great preamp sound
Thank you! That's what my focus was in this design honestly.

Yeah it would be handy if the product came with in and out label or diagram !
Have you had any issues with the microcosm?
Compression the hardest of all pedals for guitar to sell. Rabea for some unknown reason there was a lot of fizz on most sounds?
Heard that also, it seems more present when the compressor is on but I'm guessing it's coming from the amp or the loadbox.

Mxr dyna comp , industrial standard !
7:55 good point! \m/
I know this isn't your thing....Do you think you could do a video on setting for a 335 style guitar
Although the idea of having a small and simple compressor is attractive, the lack of ratio, attack, release and blend would bother me a lot.

You need to record a Funk album seriously
For the heavy rock you play , sounds better without compressor
