- For 2013, Ford not only freshened the Taurus with a new grille, fascia and reworked rear end-including updated LED taillights-but the high-end SHO model is fortified with a Performance pack. Roger Hart gives us his take on this performance package.
For a written account of Roger's time with the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO:

I like that dark green
Yes! I live in L.A. & our '10 SHO gets all sorts of attention... most recently from Highway Patrol for cruising down the 101 at about 90mph... in a 65mph stretch! So much effortless power & so much temptation to let it all come out to play!
Greatest sleeper car ever.
I love my 2014. I was a former A6 4.2 owner.
I love the change. My SHO has a little more body roll than my 4.2 but wow....I go from 80 to 120 in a blink of an eye. Summer tires suck but other than that, I'm happy. When I get a more throaty exhaust and ROUSH Intake. I will look forward to some long highway drives
Still got it? How has or did the car turn out for you?
A great review. Thank you, AutoWeek!
I love that forest green sho what a awesome car!
Waiting patiently for my new SHO at our local Ford dealer. They said they will gladly change out the summer rubber for all season.
i'm considering this as my first car but there are so many damn options!
Can you get all season tires with the performance package?
Amazing car
Is it strange that the SHO he's standing near looks like it has Highland Green paint that is rare and I always thought only the Mustang Bullitt had?? It looks great though that's for sure! :D
Cool car, it changes color multiple times during the drive!
I have a 2011 Flex with a modified EcoBoost (~425hp) and it is amazingly smooth as a daily driver but flies like a banshee when you open it up. We're seriously considering replacing the wife's '06 Mustang GT with a Taurus SHO now.
Good for you rich
I hate to say it Autoweek but anyone street racer who's worth his salt get's a bit edgy when a stock taurus pulls up next to them. This is one of the main reasons I don't like owning a 4banger. There's quite a few more cars I don't even bother trying to mess with. Maybe in some hairpins but how many of those am I gonna find in sunny sothern cali? lol
No, the F150 have Borg Warner turbos and the Flex/SHO/Explorer Sport Lincoln MKT and MKS (all the transverse V6) get the Garrett GT15 - I just had the compressor wheels upgraded on my stock turbos. I own the fastest Flex in the nation, I really, really know this platform :)
i have both and gt500
The styling could use some work. Interior looks nice.
the additional cooling items should come as standard
the notion if you don't pay the additional charges , your car will go home in limp mode duo to overheating , is ridiculous in a brand new car , that shouldn't happen regardless
SuperNiceguy60 You may have misinterpreted here. Ford isn't going to hold you car hostage if you don't pay the $2k for the completely optional Performance Pack, it's just the car won't hold up to repeated high speed laps well without it and will eventually reach a point that the computer intervenes to save the car. Don't intend on taking your SHO to the track? Fine, don't buy the Performance Pack. Guess what? The car will still do everything a daily driver should just fine.
BTW - this same line of thought applies to any car, including performance icons like the Mustang and Corvette and even 911s.
StrikerX50 I m afraid you cant be this specific , a track is simply a peace of road where people increase engine load , car componets wouldn't tell the difference if you are driving in the Motorway doing a long trip (where most people tend to exceed speed limits ) or if the car is loaded with 5 overweight people + a filled boot.
I mean the vehicle might be towing up hill ,
hence additional engine load to cope with the additional weight , a good Engine should never overheat regardless
StrikerX50 they also failed to pass on vital information such as , (at which ambient temperature the engine with standard components overheats ? ) as this might be a hot summer day problem in a car which is doing a long family trip
Just by saying the car overheats in track is extremely subjective and Poor
Martin Dennis in my umbel opinion its away to cash in, from a Overheating DEFECT under no circumstances a NEW vehicle should overheat , I mean what will happen in a Family Trip in a hot summer day ?
it's not acceptable to design cars which fail to a knowledge the existence of Summer & Motorways cars should not overheat Regardless ,
.
what next ? charging extra money if you want the wheels to remain attached to the vehicle while cornering ?
Yup, just like the 4.6~ltr V8 is in crown vics. This is why Ford's new Interceptor is the Taurus SHO now.
Isn't the 3.5L ecoboost also used in the F150?
same turbos.. tuned def
Damn, best bang for the buck IMHO , never seen a car offer so much. And yeah, the SRT HEMI might beat the SHO, but Ford can always make a more powerful engine based car, they just dont. Wanna know why? Cause it won't SELL. Maybe a hundred cars yeah, but with fuel prices going up , it's not worth getting a car with a truck engine in it. That's why even the police is now switching to Taurus SHO instead of Crown Vics
same turbo
that's some hardcore personal safety measurements right there.
I don't know what Aston Martins you guys are looking at, because it looks NOTHING like an Aston Martin. The 2015 Mustang does look like an Aston Martin.
this car is a volvo s80 underneath , you do know that
emil sponga
Derived from, and with cheaper components...
Go to full-race's web site and look at their article on the ecoboost - 2nd part for the truck turbos
You can google sho ecoboost garrett for specs on the SHO turbos.
Do your research before spreading bad info
Nope, summer tires only.
I live in Houston, Texas and the weather down here is summer and dry year round so RWD is all I need for my dodge charger RT. So RWD is still needed in the southern regions, my two cents
AWD dramatically helps acceleration and handling on dry or wet pavement.
People aways think that my Mustang is black, but then when they see it again, they are like, "dude your car is 'Forest Green!'"
please ford, sell the taurus here in europe
All the soy fed journalists will poop on it.
Especially the brits, when the last time any car that was british owned and made was the city rover
"We are sorry." said Ford. "but no"
Why is this Eco boost 3.5L V6 so down on torque compared to the same engine in the F150, which makes 411lbft?
Because the F150 is a pickup truck.
kcivnivlek And trucks generally need more torque for towing things like boats and trailers.
+Billis DeWillis Different heads, cams, and intake.
Tuning
Yes but the trucks get bigger turbos
like!
So many thing wrong with this comment... "All this is an aston Martin" it is not an astin martin, the only thing that resembles one is the grill. And whats wrong with astin martin? If this were an astin martin it would be considered "better"
Remember people...how many times a year are you driving any car on a track vs. every day driving?
2:12
I don't understand your comment.
All this is an aston Martin
These are cheap now and good cars. Shame Ford for not making these or the Fusions anymore!
Just a simple tune alone ads 50hp to this car, it's cheap to upgrade also
@mautsukuda That BORING is what that is ! Lol put a SRT on that trac an that will be a show to watch
your not the only owner
one problem. its an auto trans not a manual :(
Wow, if it is an Aston Martin, and you can buy it for less than $40k, you win!
Powerful! I know its not really a track car, but there's some annoying understeer right there.
Some of these comments are fucking stupid. Obviously the top of the line Ford Taurus is the S H O,but ppl call it "Show" for short.Who wants to go around spelling it out all the time? Its easier and much less annoying to just call it what the 3 letters spell out.. "Show" (Minus the W")
hideous color, horrible wheels, but that motor is absolutely fantastic!
Take this thing to the track... right. Love Fords, but AWD, FWD cars and V6s, boooo.
+Adddam Huh? Nissan GT-R is an AWD V6 and literally destroys any car it meets lol.
Who taught you how to performance drive, shuffling the wheel, holding the rim at the bottom, terrible hand position.
That helmet looks like he is gonna take off upward to outer space
Is he being punished, what's with the helmet, is he that bad of a driver.
+orange70383 looks like he want to go dirt tracking..lol
For that kinda money, why not a Mustang GT? But I can see in the future a new Mustang built off of this platform! With an IRS!!! Am I CrAzY!?!
Stop calling it a Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop calling the SHO a show? Show me 1 single reason the SHO isn’t called a show...
In fact, the Ford Taurus Show has always been spelled SHO, which means the SHO is supposed to b called a Show?
Now do you understand why people say SHOW?! It’s because it’s called a SHO!!!
Lol! Sometimes life is funny like that....
.

Turd alert !!! ^^^
Why would normal people want to take their $40,000 family sedan to 'the track' anyway? Great looking car, and it's a boulevard bruiser, but I'm no racer boy, and if I were, I would't race in a family sedan.
Overpriced!
This is soo boring to watch. Can't they make it a bit more fun/exiting to watch. Very dull show.
365hp out of a twin turbo 3.5L V6? Cadillac ATS-V makes 465hp out of a 3.6L V6 twin turbo. Taurus SHO? More like Taurus SLOW
lol twice the price and why would they make family sedan faster than a V8 mustang, challenger, camaro? have you heard of different classes of vehicles again lol or you could just buy the sho and slap an atp aftermarket turbo on it with a tune for a couple thousand more and that ATS-V hunk of junk will be eating 500hp of sho dust :)
Tungsten23 This engine is older and hasn't been updated.
