    Andrew, you helped me some time ago with a similar question for which I’m grateful. You really help to take the mystery out of audio/video settings with these straightforward explanations. Andrew, Always appreciated. Sometimes the simplest of things are never addressed. The AVR example is one, LFE as you said but, ultimately let the AVR's settings do the job. Excellent point. And as for 2 channel, just simply making the integration seamless, so it sounds as though the bass is coming directly through your speakers. SVS is my favorite as their higher end models offer a blue tooth setting, whereas you can sit in you favorite chair with remote and avoid constantly getting up for further adjustments. Easier on back too. Thanks so much for your video's and tips. Robert TN PS I'm sending a response to an earlier post about speaker grills, YES, I do prefer mine off when listening. Not a Giant leap forward, but, as you said in the higher frequency ranges somewhat notable. Thanks

    Hi. I have a Denon AVR home theater (sub out LFE) 5.1 and a Velodyne SPL 800i subwoofer. (LFE) Now my question. on my subwoofer there are:
    1. subwoofer volume,
    2. low pass crossover,
    3. a button with internal x-over-Subwoofer direct. 4. a button with Phase 0-180
    What should all this say on my subwoofer? I know you said max on crossover which is 120 Hz but then?
    On my Denon AVR I can set the speakers and subwoofer in crossover in set up. should all the speakers be set to 80 Hz but what should I set the subwoofer to for Hz???

    • @AxiomHomeTheaters
      @AxiomHomeTheaters  2 роки тому +1

      I would set the level on your subwoofer to the 12:00 position to start with, use the button to put it in “Subwoofer Direct” mode (This will bypass the internal low-pass crossover in the sub), and leave the phase at zero. Then use the controls in the subwoofer to set the crossover frequency, delay, and level. If the sub output is not high enough, you can go back and increase the setting of the volume control on the sub.

      @@johnnylauritsen3556 Your Denon should automatically set the subwoofer crossover to match that of the settings you have used for the individual channels. So, the mains will get full range signal + sub and the channels set to 80Hz will steer information below 80Hz to the subwoofer.

      @@johnnylauritsen3556 You’re welcome! Yes, if you want more bass level that the Denon controls can provide you can increase the level control on the subwoofer. My good man here’s how I have my sub hooked up on my two channel system. My tower’s go down to 35Hz according to it’s spec’s. My sub goes down to 20Hz according to it’s spec’s, so I set the crossover point on the sub to start at 45Hz that’s 10Hz before the towers drop off. The volume is set so the sub disappears but in heavy bass tracks you can definitely hear the low end from the sub

    OMG! Thank you so much Andrew. I've been doing so much research on soooo many sound variables with regard to my home theater room to achieve the best results. I'm getting the new Klipsch RP 1400sw subwoofer for my system tomorrow and I had no idea what to set the low pass filter to. I knew that the sub had as LFE input and I was aware that it was the proper input to use. However, I did not know by using that input, I didn't have to worry about a hz setting on the low pass filter because the sub would automatically allow the AVR to do the integration with the other speakers. Now that I understand that, that's one less thing I need to be concerned about! Your simple explanantion relieved some of my anxiety and for that I"m truly grateful!

    I have a free useful app on my android phone which I think will help people understand what’s happening and tune the sub in nicely: Frequency Generator.
    Connect the phones headphone output to an aux-in on AVR or amplifier (or an rca input using cheap adapter cable), and the app lets you wind the freq up and down with a slider. You can hear when the main speakers start to drop off, and adjust sub crossover to start responding there or a bit higher if preferred.
    Also good for balancing the sub volume to the main speakers volume.

    • @AxiomHomeTheaters
      @AxiomHomeTheaters  2 роки тому +2

      It will depend on the rest of your system, but if you are going to drive the subwoofer from a sub out on an AVR, I usually recommend setting the level control on the subwoofer to its mid-point to start and then level match with the AVR output levels. If you need to go above 0.0dB in the AVR subwoofer trim, increase the control on the subwoofer itself. You want the controls just open enough to be able to balance the sub output with the rest of your speakers.

    One thing to add from experience: Power outages. I'm mostly a 2 channel listener now. I have an AVR that can control crossover. But when the power goes out it goes back to defaults. I like using the physical crossover dial on my sub since that stays put. The starting point of 80 Hz seems to work well with my M3Ti's. The sub is a small basic 1010 from ELAC.

    Hi Andrew, I’ve finally saved enough to upgrade to a complete Axiom setup this summer. That being said I’ve been enjoying my existing Mirage collection which you engineered. It includes a pair of OMD-28’s an OMD-C2, a pair of OM-9’s and a pair of Omni 260’s with 6 OMD-5’s for my height layer and 4 BPS-400’s for sub duty. My bedroom system is a pair of OM-5’s which I absolutely love. Needless to say your being at Axiom is what attracted me to the brand and for about six months now I’ve been saving and planning to upgrade my Atmos system to an Axiom setup. I recently picked up a pair of M-80’s off the second hand market and was absolutely blown away. You guys are truly a hidden gem in a market saturated with under whelming products advertised with marketing buzzwords. Keep up the amazing work!

      Thank you so much! Wow, that is quite the collection of Mirage models…I don’t think I have that many myself. I’m glad you’re enjoying the M80s!

    Straight to the point 👉!! Nice.
    Question. I'm running bass Shakers. So I have an amp plate that I use to running the Shakers.. now the question is what dial should I run the crossover on the sub plate. I know for a traditional subwoofer we set the dial to the highest crossover point . Now does this apply to the bass shaker amp as well? The lowest setting on the amp plate is 40hz.

      Thanks! Now bass shakers are one area where I am not well versed. Does the manufacturer have any recommendations?

    You are saying don’t use crossover in subs use the bypass setting on sub, to use crossover in avr instead

      Correct. If you’re using the subwoofer output from an AVR, I always suggest using the crossover settings in the AVR and bypassing the crossover on the sub.

      Great video clear and direct. Thank you Sir I was really having a problem with my denon AVR and my subs, alluded tech 5.1 system. 2 towers not powered because older Def Techs with out powered sub sounds great without the possible of powered sub. I have all set to small now I think that seems to give a more timbre matching system. Crossover in Receiver set to 80 and the at 200 to get out of the way. My question is when I switch to stereo for music, what if any bass goes to my towers front speakers???

      @@secretsq100 Your AVR should keep the same crossover settings whether you are in a multi-channel or stereo mode. Your front towers will only extend down to 80Hz and the rest will go to the sub. Now there are some AVRs on the market that allow different settings for multi-channel or stereo, so I would consult your manual.

    I have an old school JVC AVR and it has only one crossover setting. Does that control the crossover for both the speakers and sub?

    I have a Cambridge AXR100 reciever with a sub output that has the crossover at 200hz. Should I then hook that to the LFE input on my SVS 1000 Pros?

    • @AxiomHomeTheaters
      @AxiomHomeTheaters  2 роки тому

      That crossover should be able to be changed to lower settings, so you would need to see which works best with your main speakers. Since the receiver is performing the crossover for the sub, use the LFE input.
