Do you know who gives way in this situation? Context: Driver of black vehicle in-front is wanting to turn left. Cyclists are passing on the left. Thanks for the comment. Cyclists have to give way in this scenario. Regardless, as we know cyclists are more vulnerable and I think the driver of the black vehicle handled this well with the first few cyclists. Cyclists will not always give way and we must make the fine judgement on whether we as drivers can actually turn in-front of a cyclist that isn't slowing down enough and adhering to the Road Safety Road Rules 2017 Rule 141(2) - The rider of a bicycle or an electric scooter must not ride past, or overtake, to the left of a vehicle that is turning left and is giving a left change of direction signal.
Good rule of thumb I learned in Mexico: biggest has right of way. Don't challenge your little bicycle against a vehicle even if you think it's right, bc it will get a scratch and you will get waaaay worse.
Yes. However, cyclists are more vulnerable and we must consider their vulnerability before we take action regardless of the rules. In this scenario, the cyclist had to give way but the first few did not. I think the driver of the black car handled this well.
Yes, the person in the black car doesn't have to give way but I think they handled this well as the first few cyclists (who have to give way) were not slowing down enough. Regardless of rules, avoiding collisions must take precedence...
I would do the same. Regardless, I believe the car driver handled this well. The first few cyclists were travelling too fast and not slowing down enough. The cyclists are more vulnerable so regardless of the rule the car driver couldn't go without potentially colliding with the cyclists and causing serious injury.
First cyclist was ok but the others should have waited, while turning vehicles, atleast in my city, give way to bikes going straight, its still polite to wait a few secs
The bicycle lane ended before the intersection. The cyclists and the car were in the intersection together after the bicycle lane. Our rules state the cyclist must give way in this scenario.
The first bike went through correctly, second one attempted to stop at first which was correct, but idk if the driver waved them on or if they saw it was stopped and passed, (incorrect). Third bike should have stopped unless waved through. All together first bike right of way, then car, then bikes 2 and 3.
I agree with that order and I think you are on the money there when it comes to all of this working in accordance with our rules in Victoria, Australia. FYI, there is nowhere in our rule book in Victoria, Australia that states anyone has a "right of way"... we give way to one another. Language is important so just wanted to clarify that. Cheers for the comment! :)
The bike lane ended before the intersection/junction. The driver of the black vehicle was waiting inside the intersection/junction and was not next to any bike lane. According to the road rules in Victoria, Australia, Rule 141(2) - The rider of a bicycle or an electric scooter must not ride past, or overtake, to the left of a vehicle that is turning left and is giving a left change of direction signal. However, we need to be mindful of more vulnerable road users regardless of the rules. 🙏🏾

I believe the road was built for automobiles not for bicycles. 🤔
My gut instinct would be that the driver has right of way as the cycle path in green stops at the traffic lights.

@@CRUDEDriving thanks heaps for the detailed answer. I better sub for more :)
I concur. Sketching of a depiction of a bike on the road at that point seems to imply walking out through the intersection

Relying on complete strangers to consider your vulnerability sounds like a great way to unalive yourself.
Person in front has right of way, cyclists should be stopping

A smart and polite cyclist would wait for the one turning

Tricky. The onle that has the flow of traffic being the guy in front indicating. Something a cyclist should be able to see.
The cyclists have to give way in this scenario...
The cyclists is considered a motorist in my state. It should yield.
Which state are you from?
I'm in Idaho
@@ambervanderpol6939 interesting. Our rules state the cyclist must give way in the scenario we see in this video.

Yes, the others probably should have waited and in accordance with our rules but it all worked out nicely and I think the driver handled this well. 🙏🏾
In Germany because there was a cycle lane the car driver has to give way
The bicycle lane ended before the intersection. The cyclists and the car were in the intersection together after the bicycle lane. Our rules state the cyclist must give way in this scenario.
The car was there 1st so the car gets to go first
Pretty much. According to our rules in Victoria, Australia - the cyclists must give way in this scenario...
Cyclists obey traffic laws as a car would. Turning car has right of way.

Cyclist has right of way, car had to cross a lane. However the cyclist should know the car probably isn't going to stop

Yeild to the vulnerable..
Yes, but the vulnerable also need to recognise their responsibilities when sharing the road.
The car is crossing the bike lane so if the bike has right of way
The bike lane ends before the intersection. The car is not crossing the bike lane...

Don't care. Just don't hit
It's a shared responsibility. Obviously we don't want to hit them due to their vulnerability, but cyclists have rules to follow as do others.
