      Normal Resins are quite brittle. I am buying some “engineering” resins to test. In this sense, FDM (melted plastic) 3D printing is easier and cheaper to get together parts.

    It’s a great printer. My only hurdle is when I use supports. For some reason the support sticks to the bed but the part is in the bath lol. Can’t figure it out. Great video by the way

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks! Adding supports appropriately is a skill that takes time to master… If the supports are appropriately stuck to the build plate it means you leveled correctly and your bottom exposure is adequate to make it stick to the plate. BUT if your part fell from the supports at some point, it means you needed more supports, or thicker supports, or better distribute the supports… Also, if the room where you are printing is cold, the resin might be breaking more easily. It is better when the resin is closer to 30°C than when it is closer to 20°C… if it is under 20, it is very likely to break or delaminate at some points of stress while printing. Good luck! Don’t give up. Put more supports!

    I bought a voxelab next mono 2k but I have had a problem, my impression remains stuck to the FEP, I have already searched for information, they have told me that it is the exposure time but I have already done several tests but it continues to stick to the FEP

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  Рік тому +1

      Hi Adrian! Don’t mess too much with the values of your printing profile - the default values are good enough to have successfull prints. Most likely is that the platform (the build plate) is not really leveled… so your prints are detaching from it and remaining stuck to the FEP.
      It is really very important that you can put a sheet of paper between the glass and the build plate and feel uniform pressure on all corners of the plate. It the paper gets “stuck” or pivots on one corner, that is not ok.

      @GeekDetour  2 роки тому

      Thanks man! We live in a small apartment in Madrid - I tried printing on my small office (which is in fact part of our bedroom) and, really, you WILL smell the resin - I had to open the window, get out of the bedroom and close the door! When I need to print something with resin, I do it in the kitchen 🤷‍♂️ Some people told me that filters like the ones made by Elegoo, placed together close to the resin vat, lid closed, basically eliminate the smell - never tried them myself. All the resins I tried so far have a noticeable smell (some are really nasty, some are ok). But you shouldn’t print in the same room you stay or sleep.
      Merry Christmas! 🎁🎄

    Something that might not have been around when this review originally released is that Voxelab have been using cheaper no name motherboards which simply DO NOT WORK. If you were able to get an older version of this printer, it's beautiful and an awesome printer to work with. If you end up getting one of the versions with the new board inside, get ready for a ride.

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  2 роки тому +1

      Wow! I need to go and check this info… do you participate in a group of users? How did you see this trend? Indeed, mine works fine 🤷‍♂️

    • @MrBramble
      @MrBramble 2 роки тому

      @@GeekDetour mine works just fine as well, but I bought it over a year ago. A friend of mine just bought one last week and the printer will not accept anything other than .Svgx files. Wouldn't be a problem, except the Proxima profile for chitubox will only export as .fdg (which my printer accepts without problem). Lychee slicer also doesn't support anything other than .fdg. when you use a custom profile on chitu and export as svgx, your object for some reason gets turned 90 degrees horizontally. After about a week of working with my friend and scouring the net we figured that updating the firmware was the solution, except the new board does not accept any firmware. Then we found out that Voxelab and Chitusystems are pointing fingers at each other saying the other should be the one to fix the firmware issues.
      My friend ultimately decided to return it and get something else and that's really a shame because I love my Proxima 6. I've gotten an entire 40K army out of mine without issue. I think given a few months, this issue will get sorted out, but I've stopped recommending it to people as a first printer.
      Our first clue about a new board was the bottom of the reddit post outlining steps for the unofficial V4.4 firmware update, and from there I kept finding more posts about a different board being in the new proximas. Really a shame considering the board in older Proximas is the same as crealitys resin printers.

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  2 роки тому

      You can use castable resin with no problems. To make jewelry as a hobby sure it works. Professionals will seek having the most possible smooth surfaces, so they don’t need to file and polish so much to remove the “stairs” effect from the pixels - that’s why the highest resolution is always desirable.

    How rigid is the final print with abs like resin? As hard and durable as pla?

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  2 роки тому

      “ABS Like” unfortunately is really just a marketing term… it is still quite brittle and not so hard as PLA. For real functional parts, there are specialty resins (that are considerably more expensive). People mix 10 to 20% “Siraya Tech Tenacious” resin (which is neutral color) into their favorite resins to get more tough (and a bit flexible) parts. There is a Siraya Tech Fast MECHA that feels more like actual ABS… Phrozen has an Onyx Rigid PRO410 engineering resin that I want to test - but it is around $70

    Just purchased this printer, and am wonder what affordable curing options are out there?

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  2 роки тому +2

      Hi there! Look: the washing station is not REALLY necessary: you can improvise washing containers using Tupperwares/alike. BUT the Curing station that rotates and have timers I really recommend - overcuring can discolorize and/or make the piece brittle. So, having a timer that you can experiment and find the ideal times is a must for me. I looked on Amazon and there are some nice ones around $ 50 on promotion. I don’t think you can get anything decent much cheaper than that. People make DIY stations, using 405 UV lights in boxes with aluminum foil… but by the moment you put something to rotate and a timer, you get close to $50 and not so tidy.

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  2 роки тому

      That’s an excellent question! Look: a few times I finished printing something that looked absolutely perfect and I was tempted to just clean the build plate and run for a second round without emptying the Vat to clean the FEP… BUT was glad that I decided to clean it because I found small fragments that, if left and pressed against the screen, could at least perforate the FEP film or maybe even crack the screen.
      I think it is worth emptying the tank passing the resin throw a disposable painters filter funnel… check that nothing got stuck on the FEP, and pour the resin back for the next print.

    • @GeekDetour
      @GeekDetour  Рік тому

      It depends a lot on the model: the angles/curves of the walls, the texture and sharpness of the details. Some prints I made are indeed almost identical - some you can clearly see the moiré artifacts. BUT, as you go down to 35 (Mars 3), 28 (Saturn 2) or even 22 microns (Sonic Mini 8k), the surface of the prints change, regardless of how detailed or not they are: it reflects light closer to an mold-injected part. I showed some of these details in this video: ua-cam.com/video/GDnyL0TGGWM/v-deo.html

      I didn't change most of the profile that came as standard on Chitubox for the Proxima... The only important thing I added was Resting Time, so, after the build plate retracts, before the UV Light turns on, I made it wait half second or even 1 second. It gives time for the resin better accommodate after being "compressed" against the FEP - before the UV Light cures that layer.

      Hi there. Everything I sliced in Chitubox - I started with small models to get used to the interface and also not waste tons of resin if I had failures.
      I don’t know what to think when I read “chitubox is a buggy mess that doesn’t work at all”…
      It is clear you are frustrated. But take a deep breath. Have you joined the Voxelab Facebook Users Group? People there are usually very nice and helpful - but you need to have specific problems, like: “when I use chitubox, I cannot find how to export”, or “it crashes when I do this or that”… If you say “everything is a pile of problems” people will say this hobby is simply not for you.
      Is this your first resin printer? There is a learning curve. Try to separate if you have real problems (that can happen, of course) from “nothing makes sense for me” - which is my impression so far.

      I get around 10 emails a day of brands asking if I want to show their product - all sorts of things: food, watches, glasses, cellphone cases, screen protection for the iPhone… powerbanks… the majority of it I don’t want to feature in the channel, so I decline. I just show things that are related to my hobbies and interests. Even so, producing a video like mine takes many days. It is a LOT of work.
