Fairly new to your channel. Started by watching your 3d printer videos. You have now sold me on this. Love your videos!!
Oh, that’s great! I am glad you liked it! In 2023 I will make more videos about Laser Engraving / Laser Cutting. I need more space and very soon I’ll post a video about it 😁 Welcome to the channel!
This is such a great video: absolutely top quality, funny, information… you nailed it!
Wow, J! Thank you for such kind words! You made my day 🤗😄🥰
Very creative delivery. You are a natural - can't wait to see more, as I just purchased the 20w version and the learning curve is straight up when it comes to serious burns. And yes, don't even mess with the anything other than LightBurn.
Thanks! 🤗 Absolutely, LightBurn is an EXCELLENT software and it is totally worth the money (is is not expensive at all).
Enchanting video, so neatly informing the many possibilities that It kept my attention so much! I loved the Giuly box, I’m impressed with the variety of material . Congratulations for this new review on a different technology!
Thanks, MOM! ❤️🤣 This one got pretty long, 15 minutes 😬 Let’s see how it goes!
I am making a list of projects I want to try on this machine 🤗
That was such a satisfying video to watch! This is like an amplified pleasure comparing with my feelings when I use my Silhouette! Great work!!!!
Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed it!!! Saudades de você, meu querido irmão 😁🤗❤️
Indeed Elison, I have seen and seen, it is hypnotic
Your reviews are the best!
Thank you so much, Rodrigo! Miss you very, very much, man!
Passei vergonha, mas me diverti. Seria sensacional te encontrar. Ou você vem ou uma hora apareço ai. 😘
Great review! Thank you!
Hi Samuel, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Great videos as usual my man. Great visuals and content
Thank you Steve! ❤️
Fantastic video. Very entertaining and knowledgeable thanks! Best out there.
Wow, thank you Sara! You made my day! 🥰
Awesome video like always 👌
Thank you so much! 🥰
It's a very interesting machine. I'm a little tempted.
Hi there! Absolutely, it is super interesting! But Arduinos, Raspberry Pi’s and Robot Cars are MORE interesting… (…) 🤔 Hum… I cannot decide! Everything is interesting.
Still waiting for the 18650 batteries 🔋😰

His voice reminds me of the Winnie the Pooh narrator from when I was a kid. Brings back some memories :)
Oh, that’s so cool! Thanks! Very kind of you - it made my day!
Just found this page... And i love your content style... You got a sub sir...
Thanks! ❤️🤗 And welcome!
I have had the 5watt version for a good while. Mainly use it to engrave but every once in a while I cut 3 to 5mm wood for key chains easily.
It is possible to cut with 5W - but it is quite slow. As you said: keychains go well, they are small. If you are doing bigger pieces, it takes forever. And anything thicker is not viable.
Advice is, well, everyone must consider it a general orientation. Your use-case determines what you actually need.
Great!
I'm kinda sketched out by the lack of Light spread protection. Like that shroud still has the gap at the bottom where you can the backscatter shining through. And it's pretty easy to do long term damage to your eyes from high powered lasers like that. Like if you take off the safety' glasses while it's running or if someone enters the room while the machine is running.
You are absolutely right - I bought more glasses (for my wife and daughter, because they wanted to see it working. While was working on this review I always told them that I was “locking myself to use the laser”, please don’t get in without a glass.
On the long run you need to make an enclosure so everybody is safe. Right now I still use it occasionally, but I am planing a permanent place for it on my new studio/workshop.
PS: when I recorded the intro for the video, I took the glasses out, but on the angle I was I could not see any light from the laser. This is NOT a toy.
Man the cobra and hydra logos I'd make with that would be endless. 😂
Looks like something that could turn into an obsession 🤔 I must pass 🤣
@@GeekDetour yeah I'd wind up Engraving everything I could.
wow. 20 watts xD
Laser is pretty awesome. It gives so many options for making stuff. Been working over 10 years with it. The latest laser they got, was a 10 KW fiberlaser with a cutting area of 8 x 2.5 meters. We managed to cut a piece of 50mm thick stainless steel on it, but we had to get a little creative to be able to do it.
Hi Nick! I know 20W looks ridiculously nothing when you are used to KW Fiberlasers (geez… you said METERS??). But, you know… LASER! On a table, right next to me, AT HOME! It is exciting, man! 🤣 Out of curiosity, how much did that fiber cost? 🤔
@@GeekDetour I would love 1 for my table as well. Could be fun having.
And yes.. It is in meters. xD In danish I think it was about 10 million. Around 1.4 million dollars. In thin material it can cut as fast as 150 meters in 1 minut. Around 450 feet pr. minut. :) 12mm stainless steel sheet it can cut with about 4.5 meters pr. minut.
Ha ha ha! Well, a machine that costs 1000x more is expected to be 1000x more powerful 🤣 We live in a fascinating time where we can have amazing industrial technology at home, just at smaller scale.
@@GeekDetour Totally agree.. And yes. There is so many professionel options now for use at home. Makes life a lot easyer when you can just produce your parts instead of buying them.
@@NickPaulsen i just have to hide after seeing the cost of the machine... Damn you got balls of vibranium... No laser can cut those... Kudos...
Que lindo!!!! Quero um copo é uma garrafa!!!!! Rsrsrs 👏👏👏👏
Não é um negócio muito louco?! 🤣 Legal que voce curtiu!!
Hey great video can you tell me what kind os sticker paper you used thank you keep the videos coming
New upload LET'S GOOO
Tell me if you liked it!
@@GeekDetour great as always 👍
Ha ha, thanks! 🤗
How thick can you cut wood with the 10 watts thanks bill
please share your sticker paper cutting settings , thank you very much
Hi Chistoff! Oh, it is SOOO dependent of the thickness of the paper. I tested reducing the power until it was not cutting all through.
What about dangerous fumes that will be 100% produced from BURNING materials? Maker's Muse did a good overview of mass-marketing the cnc laser cutting problems.
He is absolutely right. I had windows opened everytime I used the laser - even so, the apartment had burned wood smelling for a couple of days.
It is possible to have a laser for ocasional use on your apartment - but if you need to use it on a daily basis, it is advisable to buy an enclosure with an exhaust tube connected to the outsides.
@@GeekDetour wood is (almost) fine, but who can tell that people will not try to laser cut materials that will produce really toxic gases?
I would predict, that owning a laser cutter at home will be licenced/limited and for a good reason. At least in EU, we do care about health and envoronment over there.
Sure! I think we might have some regulations eventually. We are living the “Makers Wild West” - we are trusting people to discard their UV Resin residues properly… looking at the forums it is clear some people do it right, but some people read “water washable resin” and they go straight for the sink for everything 😬
You're voice is reminiscent of Jim Cummings as Winnie the Pooh.
Oh, that’s so very sweet and flattering ❤️ Thanks 😄
I get some really bad burns on the wood..I’m using a 3mm basswood using 100 power 6 speed 1 pass and recommend
Hi Jose! What type of project are you doing with your D1?
@@GeekDetour I wanted to cut out a name and that failed, then I was trying to just cut a basic shape like a circle and mess with the power and speed and that didn’t help either, I’m also using transfer tape to prevent some burning so I’m not sure if it’s the laser or if I’m still doing something wrong
1st: is the laser in focus? (Are you using that side-lever to adjust the appropriate distance?) Second: is the lens clean? I clean mine basically after every big (1h) project.
How nice! What settings did you use to cut the MDF and what line spacing did you use at the 6:02 time? Have you tried to cut vinyl sticker (small letters)?
P.S.: By the way, all the settings you used were missing! Power, Speed, Passes, etc.
Thanks!!! I don’t recall any of my settings - I was testing all these different things like crazy 😜. BUT: Don’t cut vinyl on your laser. It will release chlorine gas (if I am not mistaken), very toxic and it will oxidize your machine. Really! I saw photos of people who ruined their lasers.
@@GeekDetour Oh friend! Thanks for your warning, although, I would really like to make some cutouts of some numbers and words on a black sticker that, only a laser can do because, they are tiny. Wouldn't a big fan blowing in the direction of the laser divert most of the nasty smoke to avoid major harm?
Or, otherwise, is there any substitute for this Vinyl Adhesive like, PVC Self Adhesive Plastic? Thanks again
@@Dancopymus Really: DON't cut Vinyl with a laser! Here is a list of materials you can and cannot cut: cpl.org/wp-content/uploads/NEVER-CUT-THESE-MATERIALS.pdf If you want to do lots of work with Vinyl, maybe a Cricut (that actually cuts with a tiny blade) would suit you better.
@@Dancopymus Here is just one case of someone who made the mistake of laser-cut Vinyl... and it is devastating: ua-cam.com/video/wzTosE7RroQ/v-deo.html
Great video!! Thanks for good information! Is that D1 10w? or D1 pro 20w??
10W is what I got and showed in this video 🤗
Hi, great video. I have the same xtool d1 10W version, but sometimes I have problems when trying to cut MDF, sometimes the laser doesn't pass through MDF even when 1 make 2 or 3 passes. Is there a special type of MDF to use with xtool D1?
Hi there! Thanks 🤗 First thing to look IMMEDIATELY: is the lens clean? A couple of hours cutting MDF and (if you don’t have Air Assist installed - like I don’t) the lens get enough dirt to reduce its power. There is a risk of ruining the lens. Always clean it!
2nd: what thickness of MDF? I was cutting 3mm (1/8th inch) MDF at 3mm/second, 100% power. If it is thicker, multiple passes are the way. But check the lens, keep it clean. I will certainly install Air Assist on my D1, it helps to cut things clean and without much burning marks.
Speed
??
Have you made bracket for camera
Not yet! I will - but first my daughter needs to get back to school, otherwise it is impossible! 🤣Summer vacation is almost over 😭🤗🤣
🔥💕👍
🤗😆❤️
🤗
First! Yeah! 🤗
@@GeekDetour hehe requesting some of Arduino things!😋
seems kind of biased since you get the tool for free. how is this laser cutter different from many other cheaper ones?
Fair question! At no moment I compared it to any other diode laser machine. As the D1 is my first laser machine, I focused on showing how was my personal experience with it.
That said, I am always watching other reviewers - that used many different lasers. There is a consensus that the D1 is a premium machine. The way the machine squares easily and moves with great precision/rigidity calls the attention time and time again.
I am pretty sure you can make nice work with cheaper machines. How cheaper? Good question. When you look for 10W optical (or 20W), machines don’t get so much cheaper than the D1. You can only go really cheap when lasers are 5W or less… but then, you can basically just engrave.
Here is someone who tried a bunch of lasers:
ua-cam.com/video/F_33OeMTf1s/v-deo.html
PS: he also gets most of the machines for free 🤷♂️
Hi there! There is an excellent blog about hobby laser machines - if you are interested in choosing a laser, this is a great source:
hobbylasercutters.com/xtool-d1/
@@GeekDetour fair enough. At least you are transparent
Thanks! And I agree with you: everybody is biased, more or less. That’s why we should always compare different sources of information.
xTool customer support is horrible I've been trying to contact them for 7 days to change my order and they wont reply. If customer service matters to you look at other companies.
Hi Zack! That’s sad to hear… It seems to me they are selling A LOT recently, and xTool might not have grown their customer service enough… I am sorry man. Did you try posting on the Facebook Group?!
Uggggg, Yet another "affiliate or free to use" xTool Infomercial
🤔 That’s definitely a way of seeing it 🤷♂️ Or you can focus on the different ways every UA-camr sees the product, the different things we use it for. You can at least tell me I have good musical taste 🤣
Now, on a serious note: there is a race between laser manufacturers - so, UA-cam will be full of reviews, many will repeat the same things. We all might be bored to death 😂 What would you like to see differently, by the way?
@@GeekDetour What I would like to see is someone that has actually laid out there own money, and bought one, and show usage in real time, instead of 10x speeds, and bias reviews. That is very, very hard to find. Real world usage and times.
I totally understand your point!
